My husband and I were always HUGE slowhand fans. My 3 kids know all his songs. When my husband died in an accident at the age of 36 in 2015, I couldnt enjoy Clapton for awhile, and I definitely could not listen to this song. I just knew that if I felt like I did losing my husband and father of my kids, he must have been even worse when he lost his boy. Slowly over time, I have been able to crank his tunes in my car the way we used to. Then i started to not skip tears in heaven when it would play, and I loved it. This is the first time I have heard this version, and wow...I fell the evolution of grief when I hear it different concerts. This version I can hear peace, healing, even a little bit of joy in remembering. I am so glad I didn't give up on slowhand. He is the best, no one can change my mind.
You're right, this version (a bit reggae) seems like a pic from further down the road he's had to walk with this trgedy on his shoulders. It, and he, seems a lot more uplifting than the original which to me was just pure grief finding an outlet. EC has gone through a lot in his life, I'm gad that outwardly at least he seems to have done a hell of a lot of healing. No doubt thanks to his wife and kids............

I lost alot in my life, and many deaths have I seen, and one I blamed myself for, so I get this song, but I've learned we must forgive ourselves if we are to go on.
I'm crying because Im living in my shattered dreams. I just have to be strong in doing God's will without the very man I hoped would be with me forever. This is a hard pill for me to swallow. But this is why God wants us to die to this 3D life and live in the everlasting love and life that Jesus Christ promised us to live in for all eternity for those who believe in him that will never die.
