- A look at the role of a coach and how they prepare the dancers of The Royal Ballet to perform at the highest level. Find out more at www.roh.org.uk/swanlake
Swan Lake was Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky's first score for ballet. Its 1877 premiere was poorly received, but it has since become one of the most loved of all ballets. The twinned role of the radiant White Swan and the scheming, duplicitous Black Swan tests the full range of a ballerina's powers, particularly in the two great pas de deux of Acts II and III. Other highlights include the charming Dance of the Little Swans performed by a moonlit lake and sweeping ballroom waltzes in the splendour of the royal palace.
Anthony Dowell's glorious interpretation uses classical choreography created by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa for the ballet's revised 1895 version. Dramatic costumes emphasize the contrast between human and spirit worlds, while glowing lanterns, shimmering fabrics and designs inspired by the work of Peter Carl Fabergé create a magical setting. - Zábava
Back when Francesca was a soloist not a principal! She is so beautifulx
And now she's an actress
oh my goodness, Francesca was in the corp two years ago! And now she's a principal.
Carson TheKittyCAt She was soloist, but soloist do corp dear ballet too.
Something very nice about these videos, is that you can follow over the time the progress the dancers have made. Francesca Hayward, whom we see there being rehearsed as a corps de ballet member, is now a principal dancer.
Same goes for Yasmin Naghdi and Anna Rose O'Sullivan! So amazing to see them evolve over time
I have always been riveted to Christopher Carr's presence and expression in the coaching of the dancers. Such fire. Such passion for his craft. The consummate professional
I can never get through my head just how these dancers can retain all the corrections on performance night!
I just love all the films that the RB release. I think it's really great that they look after us - their audiences/fans in this way. I find it so completely interesting & satisfying to watch these behind the scenes videos. Thank you RB & more please.
Haha, Jonathan Cope ... "Just need to sort out that ending, slightly."
I love these videos-I have a tough job and a difficult family situation, and one of my pleasures now is to lay back in bed with my laptop and just disappear into this world.
+Karen Katz Hang in there, Karen. Your life will get better. Meanwhile, enjoy all these great videos! CZcams has brought me a lot of happiness, too.
thanks! things continue difficult, but better than when I posted my comment a year ago. I continue to love Ballet !
I love these videos because you get to see how the ballet gets to the stage from all the perspectives, dancers, coaches, management, pianists, musicians. You understand what a true team effort it has to be to keep the Royal Ballet and any ballet company in top shape. You also see how much work goes in to every ballet whether it is a classical or contemporary work.
As usual, great camera work, editing, and interviews - all done with so much intelligence of ballet.
Always so nice to see Jonathan.
Love ❤ seeing this form of art and how it all comes together in a graceful performance
It's always about passion and dedication.
Thank you so much for letting us in. So grateful. Blessings!
I dance ballet for 9 years and I just got on point and when I grow up it would be a dream to go to this school
Such wonderful information for those who have no knowledge of the valuable coaches passing down to the dancers next in line! Thank you!!
Great Coaches, they all get the very best from the Dancers. With the Royal Ballet no ragged work at all. Ver proud of them all. 👑👍❤️
I wish I could listen to the Swan Lake score entirely on piano! Stripped right down, it's still so incredible.
Love this video. Though I haven't gotten to explore the whole array very much yet, I really appreciate all this wonderful content from the Royal Ballet and the ROH. So well done, and so interesting. I hope to get to see the Royal Ballet live again someday (how about a little tour to Dallas, and Texas generally?), and will be glad to see the company again in the cinema, hopefully soon. The ROMEO & JULIET shown in cinema a few years ago (Lauren Cuthbertson was Juliet, but that's all I remember for sure) was devastatingly excellent. I was weeping, sometimes at the beauty, sometimes at the drama and tragedy. Unfortunately, there were only about 10 people in the hall (which was up from two or three for Osipova, Vasiliev and the Bolshoi in a ridiculously fabulous DON Q, and the Bolshoi again, with Alexandrova, in a marvelous ESMERALDA; no promotion, and people just don't know these things are showing, so then the cinemas cut back on showing them). Anyway, thanks so much for these videos!
It seems like a perfect world in the Royal, it’s a dream to go there ❤️
Can't wait to see Francesca in CATS!!
I've seen it twice now and she is incredible! Steven as well!
I payed no attention to Steven... I kept rewinding the movie at the parts when it showed Socrates and Plato/Larry and Lau. And Rum Tum Tugger/Jason Derulo. And Victoria/Francesca because they are my favorite characters in the movie
Thanks for the informative video! So cool to have a peek at what goes on behind the scenes at RB :D
Oh my! How I wish I could see Osipova as Odette/Odile
Same
Beautifully made little video.... Oh how I wish I could have done these interviews and worked on this film (sigh) Congrats.
Loved the video!!!

1:15. There's my gorgeous girl.
Absolutely franesca
His voice is soooo ASMR
francesca hayward was or is the sugar plum fairy in a different video ( behind the nutcracker by the royal ballet )
how does one become a principal dancer?
Why would there be a sign for "No rosin" and no... socks? Can be seen at about 4:57.
Rosin can ruin some of the floors and maybe its too slippy for socks
Socks actually can make the floors slipperiness bc they buff the floors
Osipova
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I saw swan lake
Is This In Anyone Else's Recommend??
My dream is to be a part of the company one day 🥺
Hasn't it been a while since the Royal Ballet did Swan Lake?
was that Obratzova?
Paixão
I want one day to have a daughter and she performs in the opera .... it is my ultimate dream
that sounds really unhealthy. please dont push her into ballet if she has no interest in it
Does Osipova speak English? I've never heard her speak anything but Russian.
Oh, that makes sense. Somehow I think Russian is a better language to describe their depth of emotion. Love the Russians.
Yes I did hear her speak English, I was surprised she had a grip on English.
How's the music around 0:50 called?
+Balletdream coda from act 2 :)
Samantha has a tough job. Good grief, to the music. I can criticize though knowing I didn't have the body for classic ballet but I do understand about feeling the music along with feeling your group of dancers.
Umm...no comments for yasmine?
that Matthew guy looks like a young brad pitt
Essa obra é russa. Não podem usar. Ainda desse jeito estranho.
nice and now mazurka...
