SHUNT ACTIVE HARMONIC FILTER FOR HARMONIC COMPENSATION USING CROW SEARCH ALGORITHM

    Recently the trend of using power electronic devices and other nonlinear electric loads has led to the distortion of power system waveforms. The introduction of harmonics by nonlinear loads increases power loss, reduces efficiency, and creates interference problem with nearby communication network. The resultant source current THD is much greater than the permissible limit of 5% as set by IEEE 519 standard which put forth a need to reduce harmonics.
    According to topology and connection of filter there are two types of harmonic filters, Shunt Active Filter and Series Active Filter. SAHF helps to reduce current harmonics in power supply whereas Series Active Filter improves the voltage quality. This design is based on without SAHF, with SAHF and SAHF with CSA to reduce current harmonics. CSA is used to search for the optimal PI control parameters.
    Four indices to depict the system performance: ISE, IAE, ITAE and ITSE,

    Therefore, for the CSA-based PI tuning, these performance indexes above equation will be used as the objective function in this design. Using Matlab 2023a version the performance of the design is evaluated.
