    It may sound like a lot of $$$ upfront but you will definitely save a ton more avoiding the trial and error with cheaply made low end products that can cost quiet a bit anyway. This guy's advice is spot on, as having quality tools will improve your products, speed and safety, while saving you that money to invest in other quality tools you actually need instead of having to keep buying successively better of the same tool.

    I got my first Palosanto beveler a couple years ago and LOVE it! Your advice to invest in this is spot-on. Struggled many years with cheaper brands. And super comfortable handles (I have the other woods for mine). I also treated myself & got their scratch awl. Their French skiver is on my wish list--so impressed with your skill with yours!! Thanks for including tips on sharpening!!

      Thank you for watching!🐗 Definitely the first tool which you should invest money, as its a huge difference between cheap ones and high quality in working process.

    Thanks Thomas. You pushed me over the edge. Just bought a No. 1 from District Leather in the US. (they were out of the 0). There is nothing like a well crafted tool and edging is such a pain with bad, cheap tools. Thank you for showing these to us.

      Glad I could help :) You are right, none of the cheap tools is such "painful" to work like cheap edge beveler :D

    Can you please told us how you care for your tools. I mean how you keep them from rust for example. Good video as always.

    Dang Thomas, you are a surgeon with that skiver. I bought one of those cheaper ones that look like a men's shaving razor, and I've messed up so many pieces of leather. I think I'll get one of those 8mm ones now. Thanks for another great video.

    Hello, STR Handmade,
    I hope you will be doing well.
    Thank you very much for the video. I am just starting in this fascinating leather crafting world and I have found the information you provide in this video very helpful. I am looking for a knife and I am seeing that the Palosanto knife sure looks like a nice one to have. I would like to know, though, how good the edge retention is in that particular knife. Do you have to sharpen it frequently or does it have excellent edge retention? Any information would definitely be very much appreciated.

      Almost everytime i use it, i just make couple strokes on leather strop. Its all how i maintain it

    Hi STR Handmade, I don't have a skinning machine nor do I use a knife much because it's quite expensive for the investment of high-grade sharpening stone and time. And can I use Palosanto's French Egde to thin out the details when making a wallet in the long run? Does it work well? I'd love to buy it if it meets this need, of course I'll have to sharpen it often. Please advise me, thank you!

    • @strhandmade
      @strhandmade  Před 2 lety +1

      You can easily skive pockets for wallets only with french skiver.

    Good video. Shipping costs these days are brutal. A lot of the time, the shipping cost is more than the cost of the product.

    • @strhandmade
      @strhandmade  Před 2 lety

      I would probably prefer cheaper/longer shipping, but seller do not offer such options :) And im kinda trapped in situation: if my order value is over 150eur i should hire custom agent for custom clearance, it cost 30-40eur + taxes :) Or if order value is under 150eur i can do it my self and pay only taxes. So im buying usually 1-2 tools to not extend the value of 150eur as it cheaper for me to pay shipping 25$ with separate orders :)

      @strhandmade  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Discussion good/bad music is probably the most meaningless topic on earth :) Its not about sucks, good music, bad music, is just about you like it or not :) To be honest, picking up the music, in video making process i probably hate the most :D

    No, No, No! Cheaper is no good. ALways go with high quailty tools. Trust me on this one. Hey, Tomas.
