I started leather working by watching your videos. Within the year, I moved to making bags and doing wholesale orders. Sometimes I still use coffee cups for corners, as I still don’t have corner punches. I consider you to be one of my earliest teachers.

You can also use a fork as a stitching punch spacer

Another thing you can use for rounding edges are coins! I go to my coin shop and buy the cheap 1 dollar bag, the coins are diffrent sizes and you have fun looking at them everytime you use one on your projects!

A handy way to remove the crud from a power burnisher is to fold a paper towel into a 2" square. Then apply denatured alcohol and turn the burnisher on as you hold the square of the paper towel to it. This method works very well as well.

When making holes with a rotary punch, it's good to place a piece of scrap leather under the project piece and then squeeze the handles. When the top or project piece of leather is thoroughly pierced through, you should hear a certain sound from it. This assures the crafter a clean and precise cut on the punch.

So i was thinking about skiving knives. I looked at those cheap Amazon/Ali kits with all sorts of tools and something poked my eye. A skiving tool of sorts based on replaceable blades... which would probably would be a little silly to buy if you can't get replacement blades... it said "DESIGN IN GERMANY" on the blade, which for one, is a little funny, for other... well that thing looks familiar! That's a "hornhauthobel", a foot callus scraper! It's sold at every store, usually costs about 1.30€ and 10 replacement blades (20 cutting edges) cost less than 1€. Obviously if you buy one in Europe, not only is it much cheaper than importing a suspicious item from across the globe, it says "MADE IN GERMANY" on them instead.
So i tried skiving leather with that, but... i'm a little unconvinced, does the tool need a little modification, is it my lack of skill letting me down, something else?
I don't have any experience with leather and just trying and edging my way towards my first project(s). i want to re-dress the beaten up Audio Technica ATH-M40x headphones with real leather headband and real leather earpads, in some nice fancy colour, because why not, and i might do some simpler things on my way there first.

A good way to sharpen a pair of leather shears or any pair of scissors is to use a sizeable piece of Reynolds aluminum foil and cut as many narrow strips of the foil as possible. When finished, the shears are very, very sharp!!!!! It a cheap but great way to sharpen the shears so $ can be saved for investing in more leather. LOL.

Leather punch must be replaced with a proper metal punch. Fork puncher must be replaced with a proper fork for unrolling honeycombs. Edge beveler must be replaced with a proper tool for cutting and pushing cuticles. For rounded angles an proper wood chisel or rounded metal punch is fine too.

No way you get a consistent result using a knife/blade of sort, instead of an edge beveller! Definitely not "a good alternative". 😂
The fork is a very practical and funny alternative for a divider. 😁

It's better to buy a cheap set of chinese tools instead of using alternatives imo. Sure this save you money, but if you really pick up leather craft as a hobby it's not bring you any where as these tools technique don't transfer. A set of cheap chinese tools cost like $50~60 and you can pretty much finish a bifold wallet or any small goods out of it
