The Core actually closes early because there isn't much pedestrian traffic downtown after 6 PM! The issue is that there are isn't very large of a population in the downtown core which is a result of downtown being built up as essentially an office park from the 1960s-1980s (especially during the 1970s oil boom.) This has only just recently started to change with the residential buildout of Eau Claire (North Downtown starting in the 1990s) and the East Village (East Downtown starting in the mid 2000s) and the city has looked at diversifying the building uses because of the high office vacancy by converting older office buildings into residential.
Iâm from Calgary and I love this vlog. Thanks you for doing this Vlog hihi :)
Youâre welcome!đ We enjoyed our time in Calgaryâ€ïž Hoping to visit again soon.

@NatandMax I moved away from vancouver because it's so expensive and dangerous. The homelessness is annoying.

Are there any of those scooters at the airport? I've got a few hour-long layover coming up and I want to explore on the cheap! Thanks for the informative and fun video!
Not sure tbh. Iâm guessing they would only have it downtown to reduce people commutingđ But Iâd check their app. They should have locations of the scooters on there
The airport is basically situated on the outskirts of Calgary. The only way to commute is by way of a inner-city freeway known as Deerfoot Trail aka Highway #2.. You would have to be crazy to try and ride a scooter on the freeway!
Go Calgary!

I lived in this city for 13 years and it was a frozen wasteland that was boring and dead most of the time. Also, did I mention the -30/-40C windchills during winter months and nothing to do but stay indoors to the extreme weather?
Skiing, snowboarding, Restaurants, movies, going to Banff, extâŠ
@@glynisorea5276 It depends.
In terms for city people like myself, Calgaryâs architecture, road infrastructure, public transportation, arts and cultural events is pretty bad, soulless and bland. Especially compared to major European and Asian cities, New York City and even Toronto/Montreal.
As for skiing/snowboarding and hiking, the rocky mountains in Colorado, the Swiss/Austrian alps or the fjords of Norway/Iceland seems more interesting and offer a lot more cultural events than Alberta.
For restaurants, there are way better restaurants with better food quality in major European and Asian cities and New York/LA.
Bottom point is that Calgary (or Alberta in general) is just mediocre and boring in general for me.
@@mikepatrick454
I thought that Mike, after growing up in Calgary. I left right after school, at 22 and moved to Toronto. Good as a young person, who wants to live in a box, make lousy money, and take transit to crowded spaces. One can tolerate it when young. I also worked in the U.S. for many years. Same thing. Big dirty cities, one can tolerate when young. I could only look at a building once and moved on. And unsafe, high crime, etc.
Infrastructure.......the best in Canada and it continues to improve. A rapid transit system, the envy of much larger cities. And an airport that is one of the largest in Canada and great services.
As for Europe, once again, Expensive. Sure its nice to visit and been literally hundreds of times. But to live there.......
Returning to Calgary, over a decade ago, I could afford to buy a home, have disposable income, to go where ever I wanted from a huge airport that services Canada, 50 cities in the U.S., central America, Europe and Asia.
Calgary bland, soulless and cultural events that are bad..........I do not know what you are talking about. There is enough cultural events to satisfy people who come from all over the world that now call Calgary home.
And your criticism of Winter....... There is a reason why Calgary is a Winter Olympic Host city. Some of the world s best is located an hour away. I have skied for decades in many places. They are nice, but to be able to leave home and one hour later have world class skiing, hiking, and the best recreational facilities in the country right in Calgary, your comments have little merit.
Perhaps you need to get out a bit more. Calgary is a great city.
I work in that building next to high park. We call it the narcist mile. Seriously do those people not think people can see them.
Downtown where you were in Calgary, most everything closes early!!! Everyone lives outside of downtown in the suburbs!!!!!
The most densely populated area of Calgary is known as the Beltline. It's basically a 5-minute walk from downtown. It's also where the Arts Hotel is located, which is where these vloggers stayed. The Beltline is made up of mostly high-rise condos and apartments. In one given a city block, there can be two thousand people residing. If you Google Search "what is the most densely populated area of Calgary?" The result will be revealed. Nothing but high rise apartments and condos for at least 25 blocks running east west, and a dozen or so blocks running from downtown southward.
I've lived in Calgary for 50 years, both the Beltline and many different suburbs.
I like calgary

Lions stand guard
Protect the bridge's past
As waters rush beneath my path
Chinatown greets me
As the bus speeds past

As the crowd look down alas
Oh Calgary, how you tease me
With your complicated downtown
I walk against the crowd
A mixture of pity and proud
Name-dropping conversations
and telephone sounds
Smells of cologne and brisket
BarBQing where deals and meals meet
Not far announcements
Of the upcoming Stampede
Security stands guard
Darkened doors silent Marquis
No one blinks an eye
On this busy street
Where secrets are spoken
I have walked several miles
Yet ended up where I started
As the bells announced
the trains going past
And I followed business
clones all dressed in black
Tailored uniforms
of financial pasts
I sat down craving the beer
Announced on every corner
Not taken over by oil Barron's
long renown for their behavior
Where bankers meet
White summertime
snow flows as the
night emperor knows
And his jester pushes his cart
Bottles picked all over the park
To pay the devil what he owes
Keeps what it takes and both push
For it's stakes are high
As they are prey to the

Glamorizing the lifestyle
So many addicts
in the pinpoint of an eye

At the speed of rattlesnakes
Just as their venomousâ bites
Finds another one to die
