The old track over the Hallandsås ridge was simply one of the most scenic railroad journeys in Sweden. A shame really that it wasn't saved as a museum railroad.
It is now a walking/cycling path.
It's a shame that such a beautiful route doesn't exist anymore. 😔 (R.I.P Hallandsåsbanan 1885 -2015. In the beginning) thank you for a good movie!
Ängelholm is such a hidden wonder, cute little museum too, not that big, but cute
It brings tears to my eyes that the beautiful Hallandsås route is no more. 2015-11-04 I was on the last train nr.1110, X31 class. After the long stop at Båstad station to take pictures, we boared to train again, and left Båstad for the final time, a tear ran down my cheek and will cherrish all the nice memories from this route for the rest of my life.
I'll keep coming back for this video since I love the contrast between the high-speed double track sections and the old single track sections and how the train manage to get trough all that!

Thanks for the beautiful view of a "mountainous" part of Sweden! The old route is certainly more scenic for tourists than the tunnel will be, although obviously more inconvenient for commuters.
The old scenic route Förslöv - Båstad on the top of the ridge is now completely gone. Not a single meter of rails was left. One can walk all the way through.
My grandparents live in Förslöv, and when I was little we used to cross the level crossing where the train enters Förslöv. The good old days before they removed the route over Hallandsåsen
Ah, I miss going over Hallandsåsen! But since trains had to use the horn (at around 00:06:53) when passing the level crossings, I'm not entirely sure everyone misses the trains. ;)
I wish all train videos were as informative as yours. There's the map, the interposed tag lines and excellent information on why things are done to run your rail way.

Överlag är en tågresa mycket roligare om man kör tåget och inte bara åker med. Man ser så mycket mer när man sitter längst fram. Det är en av anledningarna till att jag vill dela med mig av dessa filmer.

Regarding your question, I can say that there are strict rules about who can go with the driver in the cabin. You have to have a special permit and basically an escort, appointed by the company or the authority, for security reasons. I'm not saying it's impossible, only quite difficult, I'm afraid.
But there's always the chance that some driver will let you visit anyway. ;-)

I find cab rides very relaxing. An excellent video, made more interesting by the subtitles (a pity to see the useless wind turbines, which are a blot on the landscape.) Thanks for sharing 👍🇦🇺.

Thoroughly enjoyed this older video seeing I have been watching a lot of Lars's later ones with the new tunnel included I think. Seems a pity not to donate the unused line to a voluntary group to maybe run some old trains on or something? Did I see staff at one station with a ramp for a wheelchair? We are doing that a lot in Australia now and a lot of the suburban stations now have lifts (elevators??)to assist disabled and elderly and folks with prams. Nice to meet you. I look forward to whatever else you have. Isn't Sweden part of Europe? I am subscribed from Australia.

Vejbyslätt är en udda driftplats, särskilt sedan dubbelspåret till Ängelholm blev klart och det inte ens finns någon växel i södra änden. Men det kommer väl att ändras; DLO-kartan visar två planerade driftplatser Barkåkra och Förslöv.
Its a shame that the track over the ridge is going to be closed, it was a nice scenic ride for a main line.

En tågvarnare är helt enkelt någon som ansvarar för att varna andra för tåg. Om några jobbar i eller vid trafikerat spår, behövs någon som hela tiden håller koll på om något tåg närmar sig - och kan varna när så sker.

Den skylten finns även på andra ställen. Den indikerar var en snöplog ska höja plogen, eftersom det finns ett hinder lite längre fram.

Körde "koppartåget" via ostkustbanan en sommar (när tunneln vid Åby renoverades) med Ma lok och ca 1500 ton tågvikt. Aldrig några problem även vid regn. De få dagar på året som det kunde bli problem kunde vi ha stått ut med. För bråkdelen av kostnaden för tunneln kunde vi skyddande byggt tak över känsliga

Och svaret är alltså att det faktiskt finns två vägar längre bort som är obevakade. Därför tutar vi i förväg för att varna. Ingen idé att tuta när man redan är vid vägen, för då är det så dags. ;)
Blekinge Kustbana är avstängd för banarbete till augusti, så inspelningen kan tidigast ske när detta är klart. Sedan får jag hitta ännu en vänlig lokförare som kan hjälpa mig, eftersom jag sällan kör där numera. Men vi hoppas på det bästa. :)
Jan, thanks for your two responses to my questions. Since writing to you I have watched some of your other videos and a lot of them have a very strange color about them unlike this one, which is excellent. Do you know why ?
ELMASLAD Strange color? Have you got any example? As a general answer, I consider myself an amateur at filming and editing, so differences in coloring should be expected. ;)
Jan, your videos are the absolute BEST quality that I have seen !! This one may , after the 'new' tunnel is completed and in use, be all that remains of a bygone era of rail travel that is sacrificed for speed. The 'old' track across the ridge is so much more enjoyable. Two questions (Q) one suggestion (S). Q1: Even though you drive your car on the right, I notice that trains 'drive' on the left. Why is this ? Q2: Why does the train continue fast even though the signal shows a triangular set of three red/orange lights ? S: Please leave the very interesting and informative comments a few seconds longer next time as, for we English speakers, it takes us longer to read the often long Swedish place names. Thanks again. Great work !!

Q1: We too drove cars on the left side - until September 3rd, 1967! There was no need to change side for the trains. The signaling system is the same for both sides, so we can switch sides if we wanted to. But there is no need now either.
Q2: The three orange lights indicates if a railroad crossing is safe (fixed lights) or not (blinking lights) to pass. If it's safe, there is no need to slow down. Should they be blinking, one must immediately start to brake and use the horn to alert any vehicles crossing.
S: I have now converted the information signs to subtitles, making it easier to read and leaving them on the screen a bit longer. I am planning to make information signs for the rest of my railroad videos too, but that will take some time. ;)
Tja Jan! Tutet på 6:55, varför signaleras det just där? Förstår att det är skylten som visar på signalering men jag ser ingen obevakad övergång t. ex.?

Vad är det för film? Du kan ju få "originalfilerna" till den film för sträckan Ängelholm-Helsingborg som ligger uppe på mitt konto, så kan Du själv öka hastigheten efter behag.
Jag uppskattar verkligen dina filmer! Hur brant är stigningen över Hallandsås? Blir det problem för godstågen på sträckan?
En uppåtpil betyder ny högre hastighet och en nedåtpil betyder ny lägre hastighet. Vilken hastighet det faktiskt handlar om är dock något som bara syns i förarhyttens ATC-panel.
We are now eagerly waiting for video from inside the tunnel :) When can we expect that to happen? :)

Train Driver's View: Landskrona - Ramlösa Here is an example. Maybe it's a contrast issue ? At first I thought it may be my computer but other videos, including some of yours, seem fine.
ELMASLAD Yes, that I would blame on my bad editing skills. Too dark and the colors are off. When I look at the original files to that specific example, I can see that I would do much better now - five years later. I have gotten better at color correction.

Det finns skyltar som varnar 1.000 meter före att ett "stationsområde" börjar, men då kan det vara för sent att börja bromsa. I stället hänger det helt på linjekännedom hos föraren, alltså att man har åkt där så många gånger att man vet var man ska börja bromsa.
Såg hans fråga först nu. Men ditt svar var bra.

Får man lyssna på musik eller radion eller nåt som lokförare? Verkar bli väldigt tyst.

En del lok har radio i hytten. Där är det okej, om man har det på en lagom volym (dvs så att man fortfarande hör telefon och ATC-signaler). I våra tåg är det inte tillåtet med elektronisk utrustning, så vi kan inte lyssna på radio.
Jag tänkte ha Ängelholm-knutpunkten till ett intro på en film som jag håller på med. Och jag vill ha precis som du filmar, inifrån hytten, snabbspolat.. kanske för mycket begärt?
Men i och med att man inte får filma där som privatperson så uppstår det lite komplikationer.
Om du fick bestämma vad som skulle hända med det gamla spåret, vad skulle du besluta då?
tror du att man skulle få kunna åka inne i hytten och filma om man frågade snällt? ;)

Виталий Орлов Спасибо за Ваш вопрос! Черный знак с тремя горизонтальными линиями, собственно, не для машинистов. Он для железнодорожных ремонтных бригад - указывает, где на пути находится чувствительное оборудование. Тогда они знают, когда и где поднять ковш снегоуборочной машины, чтобы не повредить оборудование. Я действительно не могу сказать, расположен ли он чаще на отдельных путях, чем на двойных путях, так как потребность существует везде. Если погуглить термины “handbok jtf 3h signale”, то самой первой должна быть ссылка на pdf-документ шведского транспортного агентства, содержащий информацию обо всех используемых железнодорожных знаках и сигналах. Он, к сожалению, только на шведском, конечно, но может быть интересен для ознакомления. Пожалуйста, пишите, если у вас есть еще вопросы. Хорошего дня на Урале!
