good video man, keep doing these types of videos.!
Just a suggestion. Degrease, remove as much most rust as you can, please use metal prep to etch any bare metal and leave a phosphate coating to promote adhesion, apply POR in two light coats and seal seams. POR seals better the more it is exposed to moisture so using it before the sealer will give you the best chance for a very long rust free floor. Your video is really good but please don’t cut any corners. I am 69 years old and first used POR 15 about 25 years ago and cleaned and dried everything very good then coated it. About four years later it had come off in a few small spots. I have done many projects since then and followed the directions to a t and have had excellent success. I even prepped and painted part of an old frame about twenty years ago that has sat out exposed to all weather including direct sun light and has come off in just a very few small places. They tell you that direct sun light will deteriorate the coating but what I have seen is much less than I saw with improper prep.
This is my experience and just wanted to share my long term results. Thanks for the time and effort you put into the video. I DO appreciate it.
appreciate the input. always open to hear from others and to learn from others. thanks for the response
Living testimony there
So coul I do 1: self etch epoxy primer 2: Zinc coating 3: POR 15 ?
Dude, this was the first video of over ten total that explained high detail without all the extra words. Simple, an it works. Great job. I will be doing this to my Monte Carlo.
This is really great, well shot, well narrated, and the results are stellar. Thanks for inspiring me to tackle the floors in my classis. Cheers!
This is where I’m starting with my 1975 Chevy Vega. My floor is in the exact same condition as yours were. Doing the exact same process with new seam sealer and paint except I’m painting the floors white. Awesome video man, totally answered my questions about how to tackle this job.
The floor looks new. Solid work.
Thanks brother
But under Por 15..? 😆
Glad you're still plugging away at it. You can't argue with those results man. Better yet if there's carpet over it who cares what it looks like. lol. I'm planning on hitting the entire underside of my car with POR too. A pain but I think worth it in the end.
just be shure to wear gloves whenyou do it. still got por 15 on my hands from 3 days ago.haha
thinking about buying an old Volvo 740 or 242 and I know I'm going have to remake it! this video makes me more confident to remake and buy one! Thx
yea do it, i just bought a 745tic and yes, it haves alot of rust, i will restore it so it looks new whit some engine tuning. if u want u can check out the project on instagram: alexrenberg
just bought a 1976 244 DL with a lot of work that has to be done. One of me dream cars so it will be worth it!
This helped a lot. Thanks man, keep up the work 🤟🏼
Very helpful mate. You sir what we call a bloody legend in Australia.
Do one on engin bay
I'm restoring a 56 Chevy Bel air. I painted the rust encapsulator on before the seam sealer. It prevents the rust from coming back under the seam sealer.
This vid is a banger. Motivates me to get off my lazy add and film ahaha
Thanks for the motivation
That's pretty solid elbow grease. Nice!!
Thank you for this
Is that a '66 Mercury Parklane maybe? Nice car. I used POR 15 on the floor pan of my '54 Ford and it turned out equally well. I should mention, though, that the POR 15 company says you don't need to grind all the rust off prior to painting. It needs to be cleaned and loose rust removed, but the "POR" stands for paint over rust and the coating actually is more permanently attached to the metal surface by the "tooth" of the more secure rust. There's also a prep that needs to be used prior to the coating.
Folks, you saw him wear that mask? You NEED to do this. The fumes from the coating are TOXIC and overwhelming. A dust mask WON'T work. The prep solution is very caustic, so the same applies...even more so. Wear goggles, too.
I did my Ford floor 15 years ago and it's still intact. No rust trough at all. No coating pealing either, though you can come across a small amount of peeling in areas that weren't cleaned. On a collector car like that Merc - which I presume won't be driven in snow or much rain - the repair should last forever. Great job.
Damn nice work, man
This is so cool. Didn't know you can repair metal like that!
Nice work. Good job on the editing it down. It did make it more watchable.
Thanks brother. Took over 5 days of footage to film this vid
Wrench life 604 that’s a lot of info to keep straight.
I was worried about your fingers in the first few shots when you were fighting with that black scrapper. I thought “next we see the inside of a hospital “. Lol.
Nice job!
Thanks for watching 👍
I appreciate you sharing the video, thanks for the info.
Nice work!
Awesome video def inspired to do this too in my 62 impala floors and underside / engine lol all around 😋
Had a 65 impala before. I need another one 👍
Thanks for the content! very helpful!
Good work and video !
About to do the same,
On my 65 Galaxie ✊
Nice Work Mate 👍
I gotta do the entire floor on my 70 torino, rust holes all the way up to the firewall. Let the fun begin.
Good luck 👍👍
bout to do my regals floor just finished wiring it down . Great video bro
Regals are bad ass. Good luck 👍
Good stuff
Thanks for watching
Good job 👍
my 66 4 door Monterey, passenger left and right plus my bottom back truck i ended up cutting them out and had someone weld new metal then i sprayed that rhino lining type spray on the top and bottom
That’s badass bro damn
👍👍
Thanks, Brotha!
dope video thanks man
Legend 👌👌
I'm just pulled the carpet out and need to do some cutting and welding as well...I got my car undercoated awhile back...i mean it should be safe to weld right???
Some rubber undercoating burns when you weld it. You will be safe. Just keep a bucket of water and a fore extinguish close by. Always better to be prepared.
Good shit g!
Nice work! Did you get to CLEAN and throw some POR15 METAL PREP before laying doing the RUST PREVENTIVE coating???
I used a wire wheel. Follosed by 80 grit. Then used wax and grease remover. Than por15 coating. Didnt use there metal prep
@@Wrenchlife604 Thanks for the reply! I used their Caliper paint kit with awesome results. I've also read the Metal Prep is a crucial part of the process for the POR15 Rust Preventive to work as designed. Either way, well done job! Cheers.
Fresh!
I made a big mistake and painted the floor with Rust-Oleum® Stops Rust® 2-IN-1 Rust Reform & Seal. Now I think this was supposed to only be applied exteriorly because the Off-gassing won't stop. What do I do now? Any ideas?
never used that product before. but just let it air out. and see what happens
straight arrows!
Would it be sufficient to plug all those holes with fiberglass putty? I am thinking perhaps going all welding for a little hole seems a bit of overkill, and besides I have no access to any welding equipment.
You could. Make shure the rust is wire wheeled and treated with a rust converter. People used to fiberglass filler floors back in the day
Thanks for the vid! You didnt use anything to clean / etch the floor before painting ?
sanding it, acts like a etch. after sadning i whiped it down with a wax and grease remove to clean up all the sanding dust . and prepped it nicley for paint. the floor still looks good till this day.
@@Wrenchlife604 Fantastic! Thank you for responding. Do you think this will do the trick; clean strip concrete And metal prep? Cheers
How did that floor hold up with POR-15?
Still holding up good. Made that video about 3 years ago and its still looks great. Gonna be putting down some sound deadening this month on it. Stay tuned!
How had it held up?
Still looks great till this day. 👌
Did you in fact apply the seam sealant on the bare metal?
As far as I know, that can never be as effective in the long term as applying a primer paint on the bare metal first (preferably an epoxy primer), and then applying the seam sealant on top.
Then epoxy primer again on top of the seam sealant.
Only then a top coat of your choice, including POR-15.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Iv'e got the same problem with an F100 that has a lot of the painted floor visible rear of the mat. Do you know if I can paint the body color over the exposed parts that will be covered with POR15?
Yah you can paint over it. Por 15 has bad uv protection so the gloss usualy fades. Unshure about the prep process of laying basecoat over it. Id contact them and ask
coud you tell me what seamsealers is for?
To keep moisture and water from getting in between 2 factory panels. Which are usualy lap over eachother and spot welded.
What was the point of the sealer ? Actually curious
The seam sealer? Used to protect the areas of lapped metal from getting moisture and rusting between them. The factory seam sealer was trashed. So i just re did it with new stuff
Wrench life 604 oh okay thank you!! Great video btw
Can you help me with me old school
No problem. Ask away . Also there is plenty info online aswell. Just gotta know where to look
when in doubt just paint over it and hide everything
Por15 doesn’t work unless you do the 3 step process! Cleaner/degreaser, metal etch, than the por15
This video is 2 years old and the floors still look great 2 years later.
Are you irish
Nope. Im Canadian :)
damn, shakeycam. otherwise good video!
