- In this vlog we are going on a hike to visit our old village. Our old village is called Nasiriva and it is where our forefathers lived before they moved to our current village Navuti.
Nasiriva was known as the village with strong warriors and for conducting warfare. Its location made it impossible to conquer. Today we can still see the remains of the old village as you can find foundation of the houses and shells where our forefathers brought from the sea all the way up to the mountain where the village was located.
This vlog brings us back in time as we take a look at how our forefathers lived back in a time where Fiji was called The Cannibal Isle.

Warrior people that are loyal to Verata. A group of people from this village then left the island and settle on Naitauba Island.
Their chief was called Mai Nasiriva. This people were the terror of the Bligh Waters who stopped all who wished to assist Bau in the wars.
The Vatulawa waters is named after Vatulawa who is the warrior who was leading the attack.
This same people are no longer in Naitauba but are in the village of Kocoma, Qamea in Taveuni.

That could be true,because there are names in Qamea which connected or had originated from Moturiki..They had names like Na-ivi-ivi(Naivi was another name for Vuniivilevu or Davetalevu)..Qamea have land names like Natuvu and Nasovu,both names are in Uluibau(South Moturiki)..They also had Nauluvatu(chiefly abode now underwater near Nasautabu sandbank in Davetalevu waters,south east Moturiki)and Nauluvatu hill where Toras house sits nowadays at Uluibau,Moturiki..etc..Tuvuca near Vanua Balavu also have the name Navuti..nd other names link to Navuti which I have to research nd get them names down here..Even Tura(14th century) who fled away from Davetalevu fort(Uluibau Moturiki) to Naicobocobo Bua had his place of rest called Talau on DelaiseoTura.And the name Talau was an ancient piece of land in Navuti Moturiki..Which was also taken by Sui the teeange warrior(also known as Tui Motuliki) who left Delanikoro(Nasauvuki,Moturiki) to Tonga..He was known in Tonga as Tui Talau the owner of Vavau..Even the traditional name of the Tui Sabeto in west Viti Levu was called the Taukei Natalau.Talau was that ancient piece of land of Navuti Moturiki as I mentioned above.
Their role to Verata prior to Bau was because Roko Mautu nd Lutunasobasoba himself were son nd grandson of Tura(14th century Tui Davetalevu of Uluibau southern fort of Moturiki)..So its(Verata) like a branch out fort from Davetalevu Moturiki..

Sorry Uraia, but I don't really know where that name originally from? I think in Tonga there was that beautiful bird called Tavake . When I grow up in the Islands I saw it once in a blue moons . It's a white birds with a long tails , and they fly very high then any other birds. I don't know if they still there 🙏🏾❤
In Fiji, A Tawake is a banner or a flag. Today, We used the word Kuila for flag but its a Tongan word.
A Tawake is usually used on top of Fijian War Canoes such as the Drua.

It was the settlers/ missionaries who painted it like it was a normal practice....etc..
Yep it was more like the punishment for the defeat and feast for the victors. Our elders usually tell us story about it also my Dad, cannibalism was practiced as punishment.

People pay big money to visit old archeological sites. As aspiring entrepreneurs, with the village elders consent, is to start thinking of historical tours to the old village. One can come to the island, one, two or 3 day trip, and incorporate fishing, cooking, and visiting the olld sites. Not only will you able to make money to help the village, but your history and Fiji for that matter, is kept alive. Elenoa Lesuma..Yeah that(Nasiriva, Moturiki)same village strategy was later used for Korolevu mountain fort above Lovoni Ovalau..Which was why they were very hard to defeat in those years came down to Cakobaus time.Because the two main ancestors of Lovoni and Ovalau named Saurara(Batitamata) and later on Rakavono both came from Davetalevu i vanua, Moturiki..They possesed the Sau and Mana of their pre-flood land during those ages..Saurara(Batitamata) left earlier on with Tui Naikasi of Nacamaki Koro and other ancestors of Lomaiviti like Mautu ll of Koro,his brother Rokotaloko of Gau,their dad Radikedike left for Verata then later took a couple from Verata to Kaba then to Gau..Who were supposed to go to Nukuloa old village but stopped at Sawaieke,Vuvulo got off at Toki(Ovalau) and Rawakaya who got off at Korolevu Wakaya,Batiratu of Delailagi,Vatoa(Batiki),Vunivanua nd TuiWai who sailed all the way to Vuna Taveuni..etc..Why the name Korolevu and Vuniivilevu are both in Vuna today.
Rakavono was a son of Nakumilevu,a son of Tura from his second wife..Tura was a former Tui Davetalevu in the 14th century AD before he fled the cannibalism practiced there(Moturiki) to Naicobocobo Bua..

Yeah that piece of history mentioned by Uraia at 20:00 is the same idea still used today in the Fiji parliament,where a policeman used to carry the Tutuvikuta nei Radinibau warclub(originally owned by a Moturikian prince who was the 1st Roko Tui Bau in the 1600s - Ratu Vuetis warclub ,later owned by their warlord nd self proclaimed Fiji king in the 1800s - Rt Cakobau) to signify the opening of the Parliament meetings.
That was used to be done by the Nasiriva(Navuti) gigantic twin brothers Vononimadralevu nd Waqanivalu back in the days..That was sometimes between the early BC decades to the 800 yrs AD..When the Burotu Empire used to rule the Pacific islands from the Korovatu stone fort on the Davetalevu nd Vunuku reef(south east Moturiki). That sea-level rose happened to bring the Fijian saying "Torocake na ua toro cake na kolokolo"..They raised the stones structural fences on a number of times, but was flooded,that brought the end of that Korovatu stone fort on the Davetalevu Moturiki reef.Which once reigned in the Pacific islands right from after the flood to the 8th century AD.

Because in a Pohnpei legend about Nan Madol ocean city,they said that a large serpent or flying dragon helped the two gigantic brothers on the transportation of those magnetic stones from the South Pacific to Pohnpei Micronesia. A name found on an ancient site in Hungary Europe was still called Burotukukula.It was named by those proto- Fijians or paleo Fijians..

These are warriors who helped chiefly villages of Bau on Fijis main island win wars. The wars won
were mainly fought by these brave men of Lomaiviti as requested by the chief of bau. Those are called Mercenaries. Most of the Islands of Lomaiviti Army were Mercenaries. They used to go and help other Chiefdoms win Wars.
Lomaiviti maritime warriors in the past were even asked by a King of Tonga to go nd teach the Tongan army their art of war in the sea.After that the Tongan King gave them land nd they lived there at Kolomatua nd one of their village is still called Lomaiviti to this day.
Even William Bligh got chased by two fast paced double hulled Drua canoes from the Lomaiviti waters until they fled past Yasawa. Then those two Lomaiviti Drua canoes retreated back to Lomaiviti.That happened in 1789.
