    Carmelo Anthony was unquestionably a dominant scorer in his prime. But as he got older, his contributions to the game slowly decreased, and he became quite ineffective. In this video, I talk about how good he was during his prime with the Nuggets and Knicks. Hope you enjoy!

      08-09 was rather impressive, he really seemed to be a much more overall player that year, although I think Billups on the team was the main reason the nuggets went to the west finals, melo really grew that year. I thought if he kept that up he would truly be ELITE

      @Israel-nb7ip Před 4 lety +7

      Easily the '08-'09 season, if we're talking team play and being unselfish, when he was in the best shape of his life (up until that point of his career) coming off playing on that Redeem Team '08 Olympics where he balled out and had Chauncy Billups in his ear all summer and season long about doing things a certain way. But, statistically, he was better the season prior, '07-'08, when he had his best effective FG% shooting season while averaging his 2nd most rebounds per game and still putting up 25+ pts per game while playing alongside Iverson. I don't really count his Knicks seasons after '13 since the Knicks were so bad.

    the thing with melo is that he could’ve easily averaged 6-7 assists a game if he wanted to bc he actually was a good passer, just not a willing one

    • @jay5756
      @jay5756 Před 4 lety +120

      I think he was a willing passer it’s just his teammates weren’t that great, especially in NY. Watching the games his teammates would miss bunnies and open shots when he passed the ball all the time. Take note, when Melo and Amare played together he averaged the most assists to Amare out of EVERYONE on the team

    • @yungtago9161
      @yungtago9161 Před 4 lety +71

      His lack of assist has more to due with his play style. Players like LeBron drive to the rim and draw help defenders which allows teammates to get open. But someone like melo relies more on midrange shots where he only had to shoot over one guy and the defense can still cover the other players

      @1- 20 - 7 LG This is the issue Melo has faced his entire career.
      The media (especially Stephen A) & his fanboys constantly make excuses for Melo rather than make Melo face reality.
      If the media & his fanboys were more realistic & truthful about Melo, Melo would have been forced to change & would likely have seen much more success in the team aspect of his NBA career.
      Whether the media or his fanboys realize it they are big reasons to why he isn't a winning player.

    I just realized that between 1999 and 2019, only 5 different teams made it out of the west (lakers, spurs, mavs, thunder, warriors), two of which dominated the west while Melo was in Denver. His shortcomings in the playoffs from 04-10, I can't hold that against him. Not many teams were getting past Kobe's Lakers AND Tim Duncan's Spurs during that time.

      @IG: confused_melo For FACTS #Ginga I've got nothing. The knicks kinda shot themselves in the foot by not waiting till the 2011 offseason to get him. They traded their depth for him and then had a mishmash team in 2012. That offseason, they found everyone over 35 and signed them, all of which tired out by the playoffs, then retired after that 2nd round exit. The knicks did a horrible job at building around him.

      Who cares about being the best player o the Olympic team? Yeah that year Melo “balled out” (2016) he came off the bench playing against for the most part non NBA second lineups lol (not even starting). The only reason Melo has an impressive Olympic record is because he knew he would never accomplish anything on the NBA stage but wants to be relevant on conversation. Nobody plays 4 Olympics, except desperate people. I mean you gotta look good when you are playing up against some 6’3 BACKUP SF who is probably playing in the biggest game of his life... Overrated... his best years were with Syracuse...

    • @kushberry6679
      @kushberry6679 Před 4 lety +29

      @@floyd9727 Hahahaha. Dude, Melo balls out for team USA for more than a decade. You are either too ingorant or too young. There is something called pride and honour. Americans don't give a fuck about their national team, when every other player in the world dreams of playing with his national team because it's the biggest honour to represent your country. It's not pathetic nor desperate to play for your own country. Also, Melo till 2016-2017 was dropping 20+ points every season of his career. In his best seasons he averaged 28ppg. In his last season in NY he averaged 22.5, not bad at all. It's not his fault that the Knicks organisation didn't surround him to with proper pieces. Allen Iverson played for bas teams and he was one man team, nobody criticizes him. If you think that Melo was in his prime when he was 17, then you haven't watched actual prime Melo from 2005 to 2013. Melo is a HOF and I give him the biggest respect for representing his country in every tournament, unlike the other guys who are too afraid and pathetic for not wanting to represent their country. It's only an American thing. It only happens with team USA, where it's own players don't want to play

      Kush Berry lol his greatest accomplishment in the NBA was getting his one scoring title, in which he was the only player since the start of the millennium to get a scoring title and not break 30 points by the way something he never did In his career. Every other player is that won a scoring title was able to break 30 EXCEPT MELO, and he on top of that, he never did shit in the playoffs. One western conference final on a stacked Denver Nuggets squad lead by Chauncey Billups and coached by the coach of the year George Karl. After that he goes on to play for the Knicks in the Leastern conference (also crippling the franchise the Knicks with his massively huge contract which prevented him from getting any help) , in which he accomplished his one scoring title in which he lead his team made the playoffs only to be knocked out of the first round. Melo did nothing in his career on his own and reflected no leadership at any point of his NBA career. In my opinion certain awards don’t mean any thing. ALL Star awards (it’s fan picked and doesn’t reflect the whole season), USA Olympic Gold (any other country it’s different like when Argentina won it in 2004) If its USA all you really have to do is Go and you get a gold medal for the most part. The only things that matter to me when evaluating a player is MVPs (Melo 0), Scoring titles (1 in which he was the weakest in the past 20 years to win not breaking 30 ppg) All NBA defense (Melo 0) All NBA (Melo made all NBA Second team twice, and all NBA 3rd team 4 times) *never once was he one of the best 5 players in the league in his entire career* NBA championship (0). or leading the league in any other stat other than scoring either all time or season (0). Yes Melo will make the NBA ball of fame because of his excellent NCAA performance at Syracuse, and because of his technical most gold medals. Guess he knew he wasn’t going to achieve anything like a championship or an MVP in the NBA so night as well get his name in the record books in some way... funny you know why most player top tier players don’t play on the olympics every single time? Most of the time it’s because they are recovering from either an exhaustive playoff (something Melo only experienced once in Denver), or because they are tired of winning in the olympics and they want to let the younger players go and make their mark. Melo had no mark so this was his only way to create something memorable about him... another thing, did you know that Carmelo Anthony has the WORST PLAYOFF WINNING PERCENTAGE IN NBA HISTORY in terms of players with 50 or more playoff games 16-36 (.308 both Denver and New York)? oh and don’t bring up Iverson. That man actually took his team to a finals BY HIMSELF, got multiple scoring titles (4) (while breaking 30ppg) was an MVP, was a 3 time steal champion, and Rookie of the year and made the all NBA first team 3 times. The comparison of Iverson the Melo isn’t even close and you should be ashamed of yourself for even bringing up them up in the same sentence unless saying the played together... I’m done with this argument, I’ll state it again OVERRATED! Weakest playoff player of all time in terms of winning in NBA playoffs lol!

    If Melo had played in a system like he did in Syracuse, he would probably have achieved more. Back in Cuse he was like Larry Bird, passing the ball, making clutch shots, relentless defending and chasing rebounds but in the NBA he came in already the first option, didn’t play in a well established system and throughout his career he didn’t have a coach that could just humble him, he just didn’t humble himself that’s why I wish he had gotten drafted by the Pistons, he would be a role player for a little while but he would eventually become a greater player like he was in Cuse, it would be like how Kawhi Leonard is now, Melo would be hungrier for more championships.

      Ding ding. That's the key. Harden, melo , players like that don't get rings. Even Dirk had special defensive specialists team that got a Heat team before they were hitting their stride. To get Dirk the one ring. It takes that 4 a wing players who isn't a impact on both sides of court like Lebron, Kawhi, Jordan and pippen. Bird.

KD only has one season where he averaged less than 25 points per game and it was his rookie season. Melo was a great scorer but he wasnt as consistent as KD. There were seasons where Melo would average 27 or 28 a season but then averaged 22 the next. KD is also way more efficient than Melo ever was and he didnt shoot the ball as much as Melo.
