  • What is Applied Languages and what is it like to study languages with another subject? Niall Plumb studies French and Japanese along with International Relations and Politics at Oxford Brookes University. More about studying Applied Languages: www.brookes.ac.uk/courses/und...
Combining language studies with another subject is a great way to support your future career because you apply languages for professional use. As an Applied Languages student at Brookes you can choose two languages - French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Mandarin, or English as a Foreign Language - and combine it with another subject of your choice including Education, Business, and International Relations and Politics. You will gain a language degree that will improve your employability and lead to a successful international career.
The course includes a unique year abroad experience. You will apply your knowledge from your specialism at a work placement in a country where your primary language is spoken. Many competitive graduate jobs require 12 months’ work experience - something that you can gain on this course with a work placement of up to a year.
Alternatively, you can also choose to study your second language at a university in a country where it is spoken for part of your year abroad.

Although i love the Japanese language, wouldn’t Chinese be more versatile since it is one of the UN official languages?

It’s not all about being “versatile.” Every language is valuable.
