S2 EP2: An incredible TERRACE TRANSFORMATION!

- In this episode, Shaun and I bring lots of love and life back to the old rundown dilapidated southern-facing terrace of our Maison. Wait till you see what we’ve done to transform this space and turn it into an enjoyable outdoor room fit for long lunches and fun soirées!
Included in this transformation are the famous Anduze French pots I sourced from the Provence, a large waterproof Italian pergola, and an abundance of colourful flowers and plants on a new floor of polished stone.
The change really is remarkable and we are loving our new outdoor living room - now for some more sunshine!!

Thanks so much! You can get so carried away with wanting expensive things during renovations but then you have to live with financial anxiety! We have so many renovation plans so it’s important to make affordable but effective decisions. 😊

The stones are a BRILLIANt solution to your dilemma! Well done! It looks lovely.I know it will be difficult but try to avoid getting soil mixed in with them, because that will encourage weeds to grow amongst it. You're right, the mirror is a fabulous size. With the great pergola and seating it is a wonderful area to relax. Salut!

I think this has to be one of my favorite of all your videos so far. I just love how well the two of you work together, and I appreciate that you didn’t rush into your renovations, you let yourselves experience and live in the house to understand how it would best suit your needs, how the light and your uses of the inner and outer rooms change with the seasons. Brilliant idea turning the forklift and wheelbarrow into a front loader! The pets “supervising” the stonework and repotting made me laugh. And yes, Sean, you should brag about the great job you did on that pergola. Congratulations and enjoy that beautifully styled terrace!

Originally we didn’t have big plans for this section of the terrace as the intended stone column pergola will be our main outdoor space but with all this rain in France we realised we needed a permanent waterproof area. And yes the three site supervisors are always watching/participating/demanding hugs 🤗

Wow what a difference you have made in such a short time. The terrace looks fabulous and very interested to know if the sand with the binder additive worked. Just be careful with the soles of shoes. Sketchers trap the stones and brought them inside the house. Nuisance! Yours makes the area so much lighter and cleaner. Love the plants and everything else. Well done Mr Smith👏👏👏❤❤👌👌
Thanks Susie! 😃 Fortunately the binder has worked well and so far there have been no stones in the house. The big problem is the dirt and mess from the driveway, that will be a future project.

Brilliant job guys well done and I feel your pain with the gravel as we have to do our whole driveway every 3-4 years as it slowly disappears when regularly driving on it 🤦♀️ The sun is back though thank goodness just when I’m about to head off to UK next week to see family and friends, hopefully it’s still here when I get back 🤞🌞 Be lovely to meet up for a coffee sometime so if you’re ever in the Sarlat area please let me know ☕️ 😊

Definitely would be worth a try I love the mirror, makes such a difference to feeling more open, the new roof cover is perfect. Stays in place with the stabilising sand, hasn’t gone anywhere, doesn’t move underfoot, seems to have worked at this stage, cheers Shaun

I had a similar situation long time ago and opted for peebles too..oh boy oh boy what a mistake it was....on paper it sounds good and it looks good too but over time you end up having peebles literaly sprinkled everywhere, inside, outside, couldn't keep those peebles on their spot.
Oh no! Fingers crossed they stay where they are. They are larger than pebbles and I haven’t had any problems as yet as they have set well into the stabilised sand.
@@DarleneLavett yeah I bet the stabilised sand will work fine for you ! I had nothing to realy help them stay put.
