About the vignetting performance, I’d like to note that this lens is wider than 24mm but is at 24mm once corrected. Your camera applies a small crop and adjusts the vignette, looks like this is the new norm for mirrorless cameras. Check out Jared Polin’s review on this lens and the Canon 10-20 if you’d like to learn a bit more about those corrections!
I have just bought it :). When I opened the box, I thought what a mistake, since I did no realise that it would be so bit. But, after using it for half an hour, I got used to it. Zoom range is really great, and the zoom ring travel is very nice to use. I agree with you about the image quality, microcontrast and sharpness are outstanding.
I hope you enjoy this lens. Give some feedback when you get some real use with it, please.

great and interesting review. i was considering this and would love to see the differences between the 28-70 f2 like you mentioned in the end. so can't wait for that video. i would have like to see some outdoor portraits with this lens.

For me, I just leave the arm on and put a large quick detach plate on the tripod mount and use that as a grip/platform to rest on my hand and that helps balance the weight and minimize fatigue.
Great video as always so well performed! I wouldn't mind renting it for suitable jobs. It's a video/cinema/photo lens in combination, fantastic!! I'm pretty sure the cameras will correct the vignetting when filming.
Looking forward to testing it more for video. Seems like the perfect lens for video!
Nice, fair review! I've done a number of comparisons between this and the 28-70, and the two lenses are more similar than different, as far as image quality goes. Although I think this lens ends the 24-105 f/4 vs. 24-70 f/2.8 debate, now the debate is 24-105 f/2.8 vs. 28-70 f/2 😅

You don't have to crop you can either turn the distortion all the way down or use the f4 version in those longer lengths. Adobe knows about it, it will be fixed one day. I usually just use the f4 profile for on the pics I see that happen too.
DXO PureRAW now supports the 24-105/2.8 with their latest update. Much better lens profile than Adobe. I use it and output a DNG for further adjustments in Lightroom or Photoshop. I do like the lens but the RF 28-70/2 is still my favorite lens but this will be my travel option when the 24-105 range is all I need. Unlike James I really like how this lens handles and, despite the size, it is lighter than the 28-70/2. 👍🏻

thank you so much for this all-encompassing review with all the qualities and the drawbacks of this heavy and large lens. Could have been interesting to add some video usage, as this lens was also marketed for videographers. (As a side note, the music you use does not add information and reduces the intelligibility of speech, and as it is a music that has interruptions and is irregular, it creates a sense of interrupted speech, albeit your elocution is clear and fluid.... but then this might be my subjective feeling)

I find this review to be quite good and the photos taken are quite good. I am sure this is only 2 lens along with 100-500 i will, have for R7.
Do you intend to use it with R7?
In fact, it has an aperture of f3.2 or f3.5
And if we on the lens correction then the image is crop and the resolution lost

Very similar! I would say the 24.105 is slightly better especially at the longer end of the focal range.
I use the canon R3, and im on the fence between getting this lens or a combo of RF 24-70 f2.8 along with rf 70-200 f2.8.
I do photography and video, the only thing that threats my fantasy of having one lense, is the size and weight of this monster.
Which path would u recommend going with ?
I would personally get the two lens combo. The reduced weight of each is nice. Certainly if you barely find yourself above 100mm then I suppose the 24-105 2.8 makes the most sense.

This lens or the 28-70 f2L? I'm thinking they are similar in price and weight.
They are very similar, image quality, too.

If you also make video, go for the 24-105 with IS an the aperture ring. If you usually takes photos indoors, go for the 28-70. If you have a lot of money, go for both😂
The lens is built for videographer in mind, so Canon seems like dont want to apply the resistance on the zoom ring you know how videographer hate it
Your data is wrong on the weight of the lens. I have both the 28-70 and the 2-105 and the 28-70 is heavier, shorter, but heavier. And I guess I'm not seeing the vignetting you're seeing, but oh well. No issues here. You CZcams product pushing guys say the craziest things. It's the perfect lens for travel, just b/c it won't find it your backpack? You knew the size of the lens before you got it, so not sure why you complain about the size of the lens. Sigh!
Canons site report them as weighing exactly the same. The 24-105 feels lighter in the hands but heavier on camera (to me). I’m not trying to push either of these products, I don’t even have an affiliate link for either of them. You should be happy, you own both (and I own neither)
@@JamesReader Not true, the Canon website reports the 28-70 as weighing 3.15 lbs or 1430 grams vs the 24-105 weighing 2.9 lbs or 1330 grams. But either way,, everyone has their own opinion and I respect yours, but. your data was wrong.
@@neostephens8980 I got my data from Canon UKs website who list them both at 1430 grams. Next time I’ll whip out the weighing scales ⚖️
