This recording made when she was 9 years old has over 6 million CZcams views and is still #60 on the iTunes top 200 jazz singles after 4 years since it was posted in 2016. I think that says everything we need to know about Angelina as an artist. Yes, at that point in her career she was mimicking, but she mimicked Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Amy Winehouse, just to name a few, and over a 5 year period starting when she was 6 she was able to develop that mimicry into her own unique style. Now she is a master class artist at the tender age of 14, that’s unbelievable! Try considering what it took for a 6 year old child to mimic and emote the emotion of Billie Holiday!

I appreciate all the information Darrell. I totally agree with the passion this young lady has! I really just wanted to understand how that happens for someone so young. Recent Grammy winner, Billie Eilish never attended public school. Homeschooled always. Her parents were struggling actor/musicians and allowed Billie and her brother to create anything from art to dance but mostly music. Both young ladies are gifted beyond words. I would guess it's partially what they were exposed to from such an early age and given the freedom to express it. The names you gave for comparison were also spot on!! Thank you!

      @wajj1842 Před 4 lety +8

@@mamatrop I've always felt that public education has a way of squelching creativity for the sake of conformity. Many creative artist are either home schooled or have gone to schools that support creative endeavors. As you said, Billie Eilish was home schooled and given many opportunities to tap into her creativity. Angelina went to a school that helped her develop the skills that we see today, and was in a home that nurtured her creative efforts and exposed her to a variety of artists. The conformity we see in Angelina comes from mimicking the artists that she admired and wanted to sound like. And remarkably, she was able to do that with so many artists that some refer to her as the "girl with 1000 voices". But as we saw on AGT, there is only one Angelina, and she now has her own unique sound. Looking forward to the release of her new album, which should be out any time now.

Darrell, mimicking? Really? Educate me! I always thought that Angelina never mimicked anyone, even at a tender age. I never saw in all the videos posted on CZcams anything ressembling, even at NGT!
I suppose i was in the wrong all this time. To me, mimick applied to her constitutes an offense to her reputation. Mimicking, in my mind, was a circus act, like what Marcelito is doing, whereas covering is signing, not imtating, in the manner of, as a form of a tribute.

She wrote 3 different songs from 11-12. What Is Life (jazzy song on Angelina's life), Oslo (ethereal tribute to her country) & Shield (tribute to her protective family with a James Bond feel). Each is totally different from the others. Now that AGT-C is over she plans to release a new album of originals that she has been working on since she moved to L.A. Her 2018 album "It's Magic" is amazing & has been selling OK until recently. Since her appearance on AGT-C, sales have gone through the roof & it's # 1 or 2 on i-tunes jazz album sales. Her use of AGT-C to introduce herself to the American audience was brilliant. Thank you Simon for unwittingly boosting Angelina's career on your totally rigged "talent" show.

To my knowledge, Caleb, you are the only reactor to Angelina on CZcams who listens to her so attentively and with his eyes. With his ears too, but that is a given, with your headphones on.
Her voice is striking, stunning, very out of the ordinary, mature, powerful lungs, yes so much voice and breath control for her age, so many vocal skills, jazzy sound, no doubt, at 3:01, no one can teach her that, eyes, head inclined, arm in the air: this is singing and acting with an attitude, like you say, with grit! At 9 years old? Nina Simone, putting a spell on her lover? Yes, go girl! But a child, and she is credible? I never heard one reactor, and they are many, gloating about the incredibility concerning her choice of songs or her gritty attitude despite her lack of emotional intelligence.
Did you see when the music is playing, how she feels happily the music in her body, how she moves her head (and not clapping with her hands) to follow the rythm, how relax she is as if she is doing naturally what she does effortlessly. In the last part of the song, starting at 5:26, i see that you are getting excited by the roaring and the screaming: she got you mesmorized like she got all of us. This is the miracle of Angelina Jordan!
Her second classic was performed in 2017; she was 12, in a live concert at the Proysenfestivalen, singing a cover to James Brown s iconic song This is a Man s World. Would you react to it and, if so, could you have in hand the lyrics. They provide the perfect mean to observe and appreciate how her diction often changes the pronounciation of words, expressions or, even, of an entire line to give the color and the ornementation that the song needs . She did the same recently at the AGT: The Champions with the song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road!
She already has to her credit three originals (Oslo, Shield and What is life) and one semi original (A Song for A, on a poem by Robert Burns, the music having been composed for her by the russian musician Nico Cartosio.
She is going mainstream now with an electronic dance music called Above the Water.

I've been watching quite a few recently and they seem to fall into 3 categories: emotional, insightful or over-acting (putting it nicely). The first is rewarding in it's own way, especially for true fans, but it also creates a feedback loop which distorts reality. It's great to see your genuine emotions as you are surprised or impressed but also your passion for how it's being achieved and giving viewers a better understanding of why it's so impressive. (Check out the Microphone Technique lesson as well as the insane range of his covers, and then his latest heartfelt EP)
Rather than ask if Angelina's mesmerizing talent was achieved as a toddler was more nature versus nurture, perhaps ... reiterate, recreate or anything rather than mimic should have been the description.
Reaction videos on musicians are certainly plentiful and I have seen many different ones since Dimash graced the world with his "VERSION" of SOS. After seeing a few other vocal coaches offer everything from opinions of the planet from whence Dimash originated to accusations of autotune, or beautiful, tearful and speechless expressions; Caleb's first reaction was one of my favorites. I learned that a true voice teacher can admit that he may be unsure how those sounds are happening, then explains physiology of the vocal instrument as well as a whole slew of descriptors (mechanics, dynamics production, onset, pure tones, vocal fry, compression, breath control...) of the sound being shared in a knowledgable polite and respectful way. Refreshingly valuable and easy to understand.

I think she was still 9yrs. old here. The little bit where she was writing down notes on the play-sheet, and then her conductor reading it with a little smile, this was normal. She has had a hand in arranging her music since she was young like this. As she has learned music theory and her knowledge base has grown she has no problem letting whoever needs to know, just how she wants it done. She is always kind about it, but she is also a bit intractable. The candle has a picture of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
It's funny a lot of the vocal coaches that have commented on this took great lengths to warn of the long-term damage that kind of growling might cause. I appreciate your responses because you always say how the song mad you feel, which is something we can share and connect with right away. Then you get to the technical, which is greatly appreciated. Some of us will only be able to grasp a portion of your knowledge so getting to your feelings first makes this a nice partnership.
If you ever run out of things to watch there is a 12 yr. old Welsh girl named Gracie-Jayne Fitzgerald who was on The Voice Kids UK. She made it to the final four, and should have won, but a young competitor had lost his Mom and since the people vote on the winner. Anyway, Gracie has been singing for about 17 months. The song if you're going to listen to one, should be 'Many Rivers To Cross' and listen to the reactions from Danny, sorry I do not know his last name, as she sings this song. See if you agree with him about how she handles this song. Her coach is Pixie Lott. Great Angelina Jordan (born Angelina Jordan Astar on 10 January 2006) is a Norwegian child singer, of Iranian ancestry, whose audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at the age of seven, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday, became a viral video online, and led to worldwide press coverage.[1][2] She went on to win the competition (at eight) with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". Since then she has worked to raise millions of dollars on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world. She always performs barefoot, after befriending a young shoeless girl while traveling when she was six years old. Jordan wrote a book about the experience and became the youngest published author in Norway.
After Jordan's performances of two Billie Holiday songs, "Gloomy Sunday" and "I'm a Fool to Want You", on Norway's Got Talent, as well as "Fly Me to the Moon" on a TV talk show, all went viral online in March 2014, she was featured in Time,[1] Daily Mirror,[2] People,[5] and other news outlets around the world.[6] She continued in the competition singing Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" live in the semifinals,[7] and won with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime", in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's 1958 recording of the song.
In September 2014, she performed "Fly Me to the Moon" on the US television show The View,[8] bringing her wider fame in the United States. She also performed on several TV 2 programs in Norway over the next few years, including multiple appearances on Allsang på Grensen (Singalong at the Border, referring to the border fortress of Fredriksten where outdoor concerts are held) and on TV4 in Sweden.
Jordan had a small guest role in the final episode of the Netflix series Lilyhammer, playing a girl who sings in a bar.[9]
In December 2014, she realized a personal ambition by performing for Peace Prize recipients Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.[10]
Jordan's recording debut, the three-song maxi-single My Christmas, was released in December 2014.[11] To support the release, Jordan performed the songs on multiple TV shows, including an appearance on Christmas Day.
In 2015, Jordan began recording music that would eventually be collected on the six-song Angelina Jordan - The EP, released on 27 November 2017.[12] Many of the tracks were posted to her official CZcams channel[13] well in advance of the EP release, in the form of music videos and lyric videos. These included her covers of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You", the music video for which was directed by Per Heimly, and Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black", in which Jordan sang her own original lyrics. These two music videos became the most popular videos on her official CZcams channel, surpassing 5 million views each by 2020. In 2017, she created a second CZcams channel specifically to present performances of cover songs.[14]
In November 2015, Jordan published the book Mellom to hjerter (Between Two Hearts), illustrated by her grandmother, Iranian artist Mery Zamani.[15] The book tells the story of her meeting a poor motherless girl in Asia who has no shoes. After a long conversation in which they discuss their dreams in life, she gives the girl her shoes and the girl promises to pray for Jordan to fulfill her dream to become a successful singer. According to Jordan the book is based on a real incident which she cites as the reason for always performing barefoot.[16]
In April 2016, Jordan performed "Fly Me to the Moon" on the first season of the noncompetitive children's talent show Little Big Shots.[17] A year later she performed "What a Difference a Day Makes" on the UK version of the show. She also performed "I Put a Spell on You" on the German edition of the show, Little Big Stars, in 2017.
In December 2016, she performed on Alan Walker is Heading Home, a live concert broadcast from Bergen, Norway, where she sang Walker's songs "Sing Me to Sleep" and "Faded".[18]
On 15 June 2018, a full album of recordings with Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps), called It's Magic, was released.[19] The next day, Jordan and the band performed the full album live in a concert attended by Norway's Prime Minister.
On 27 June 2018, Jordan performed "Fly Me to the Moon" for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London, as part of his 85th birthday celebration, and also joined with other singers to perform "Man in the Mirror" to close the show.[20][21]
In 2019, Jordan performed for former president Barack Obama and other public figures at the Brilliant Minds conference in Stockholm.
In October 2019, she competed in the second season of America's Got Talent: The Champions, which was aired in January and February 2020.[22] Her first appearance on the show, singing an original arrangement of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", received a "golden buzzer" from judge Heidi Klum (meaning that Jordan would pass directly into the finals). As with her Norway's Got Talent audition six years earlier, a video of Jordan's performance began to go viral on CZcams, quickly reaching 10 million views.[23] The performance also garnered praise from Queen's official Twitter account.[24] Shortly afterwards, the video was taken down[23] and Jordan released a studio version of the same arrangement under her own copyright.[25] Jordan's second performance (in the finals), a similarly reworked "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" based largely on a version by Sara Bareilles, was also well received, but she was not among the top 5 acts.
In August 2020, Jordan's manager (her uncle, Michael Astar) announced that she had signed with Republic Records.[3] Her first single on the label, "Million Miles", was released on 6 November 2020, on all major digital platforms.[4] An official lyric video was posted to her official CZcams channel the same day.[26] The track was produced by the Norwegian duo Stargate, who also co-wrote the song with Jordan.[27] She has since released two additional music videos for the song: one showing her singing the song "live" in a recording studio, the other an "official music video" featuring her younger sister.[28][29]
    Personal life Edit
Jordan was born in Oslo, Norway, and has lived for extended periods both there and in Los Angeles. She also lived for a time in the Middle East. She has a younger sister who has been featured in two of her music videos. Her father, Gerry Christian Slattman, is Swedish.[30] Her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar, is the daughter of Iranian artist and poet Mery Zamani and a Japanese father.[31][16]
Jordan attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training. In addition to singing, she plays the piano, violin, guitar, and flute, and also paints.[32]
As of 2020, she is living and going to school in Los Angeles
As of 2019, Angelina Jordan’s estimatednet worth is $9.4 million .
Angelina Jordan (born January 10, 2006) is famous for being pop singer. She currently resides in Oslo, Norway. Vocalist best known as the winner of Norway’s Got Talent in 2014, at the age of nine. She published her first book, Between Two Hearts, in 2015.

Just listened to your outstanding performance. Excellent ! Regarding Angelina, the things that have always fascinated me about this arrangement were that she is young, has only limited exposure to English at this point and how in the heck did she ever find this version ( the original ) and so masterfully mimic the nature of this awesome song. This is probably still my favorite of her performances but there are now maybe 20+ very close second choices. I think you hit it on a previous review, she hears more accurately than almost everyone and can almost mimic the whole sense of the song. I m still hesitating in the use of the word mimick applied to Angelina. I wait to see how the experts will justify their case. To me, Marcelito is mimicking, like in a circus act, Angelina covers in the manner of her idols, but she never tries to sing like them.

@@jacquespicotte8886 Replicate is perhaps a better word but in no case do I imply any negative to either. She is beyond amazing to me and the mystery of her talent is something to ponder. I have settled on - she hears music; voice, emotion, tempo, meaning and all nuances and then her brain mulches what the ears heard and she then sends her version out through her own voice. sometimes almost note for note with the original (Mimic? Replicate? some other word) other times completely different style, pace and arrangement. Literally always amazing in my view.

@@roberttague9729 Yes, i agree with you about the process im which she operates. It is just that mimick means imitate, copy as a tool of learning and is derogatory, almost offensive, in the case of a child who never did such a thing. The word, as applied to Angelina, should be banned from our vocabulary for reason of ignorance or misunderstanding and used for Marcelito, as the best compliment we could give him: he sings exactly like the singers he imitates. Angelina is never a copy of her covers. How could she, when she sings a song as an homage, a tribute to Elvis, to Frank or to James Brown: she cannot sing like a man!

She has proven her artistic capabilities again and again by arrange /rearrange the music - she always do things in her own way. She simply paint with her voice and do things like no one else.
Already as she was 12 years old she came out with her own original songs/ music: Shield, Oslo and What is life.
She has also gotten music specially composed for her. That was done by the Russian composer Nico Cartosio. The text is from an old poem by Scotish Robert Burns. The song is named A song for A. It is simply endlessly beautiful. Please react to all the mentiioned.

Insane she's only 10 here! I love the little bare feet moment! You have a great point about when she loses the "little girl" aspect people are drawn to. I bet she can write amazing lyrics, with attitude and style.
I HIGHLY recommend listening to Caleb's EP. There's something for everyone!

Here's a link to one of her originals, Shield. Looking closely at her choice of words, I think she demonstrates more depth, especially at her age, than many have given credit. Others have likened it to a James Bond sound. czcams.com/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/video.html

This was Angelina's own arrangement of the Screamin' Jay Hawkins cover of this song. In the beginning you see her handing her instructions to the band leader. Angelina is known, even from a young age, to participate completely with all aspects of the performance. In rehearsal, she will stop to correct musicians, and if able (like with piano) demonstrate what she wants or expects. I don't think, even at age 14 we have seen Angelina's complete genius yet. A truly amazing young woman destined for greatness! BTW, you mentioned songwriting. Angelina has 3 originals that she wrote at age 12. "Shield" with an intentional very James Bond feel czcams.com/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/video.html "Oslo" czcams.com/video/R2HkKh_Cp8I/video.html and "What is Life" czcams.com/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/video.html

I love Angelina and have listened to this many times and noticed something recently. I am interested in the significance of her switching mikes at 5:37 to about 6:18.

They probably were just experimenting with different ways of recording to get the best performance and best footage. Most likely the audio is all from the booth footage rather than when she is in the live room with the band :)
