Yes! Big thank you! I was flying around 30-35 fps on medium settings and did not really understand how the performance was so "bad" with my GTX980ti, now i'm flying around 35-40 fps with really good performance and hi-res graphics! Weei! :)
dude i have a 1080 with 20 fps consistently dang
I have 8700k 4.8 Ghz + 1080ti but my performance is worse than the video. Go figure.
Good info for those of us who are upgrading hardware. Thank you.
One thing I am keen on is getting the right field of view. This should have nothing to do with preference, or the aircraft. Simply measure the horizontal angle subtended at the users eye, between the left side and right side of your screen, and this is the most accurate setting. You can increase by a degree or two, but the sensation of speed becomes unrealistic with any more. Imagine the screen is a window lookin into the VR sim world. It works just like a window.
I meant to post this some time ago and forgot. Sim-Outhouse users of X-Plane will love it! Thank you...
Q8Pilot, congratulations on the video. Simply amazing. For some time I already wanted to buy the simulator and had already seen some videos on your channel. With the steam promotion I was able to buy, and this video simply helped me a lot. Congratulations, best graphics configuration video for Xplane 11 on YT.
Cool guide, but pls drop the reverb effect on the voiceover.
Absolutely the best tutorial on rendering options. I have in my system built by Michael Brown of X-Force PC two years ago. Processor Intel i5-7600k at 4.6 GH and a as far as GPU a Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB dual fan , RAM is is 16GB......... I plan on getting the RTX- 2060 super with 8GB. And upping my RAM to 32GB. I do not have a private pilots licence. I probably dont plan on it. At a $8500 to $10,000 price, at my age it not worth it. I have the money. And at fixed income with investments, I'd much rather learn my flying experience on the best flight sim there is. X-Pane. Thank you for your knowledge, videos and tutorials. I never miss your videos. I watch every single one.
Wow 40 FPS this is awesome speed, I love flying between John Wayne and LAX since these are my local airports where I live, thanks very much for this awesome video, I'm getting with my system just half of this speed without running any additional software , it looks it's the time for me to update my system :) Thanks very much for your time and sharing, this video helps all to get the speed to our x-plane 11. Thanks again best Regards .
First off, thank you very much Q8Pilot for posting this. I have not had a chance to watch your video to the end... but it looks super informative so far and I can't wait to watch it in its entirety! My comment is specifically in relation to the threading & hyper-threading settings. As I understand it, the problem is neither those settings, nor your CPU. The problem - at least until now - has been the API (Application Programming Interface) that is used for X-Plane & yes this includes X-Plane 11. Until now, Laminar Research a.k.a. X-Plane, has used OpenGL as their API and OpenGL is, at the risk of putting too fine a point on it, terrible at spreading the workload out among the various cores of the CPU. You could have 30 cores, yet because X-Plane uses OpenGL, it will still result in X-Plane putting 90% of the workload on just one of the CPU's cores. This problem is further exacerbated if you use multiple monitors. Reportedly, X-Plane is working on implementing an API which is supposed to be very good at spreading the workload out over several cores of the CPU, an API called Vulkan. I've read that within the next 8 to 12 months, an update for X-Plane 11 will be released, which will then overnight use the Vulkan API instead of OpenGL and problems that have been persistent such as things like frame rate & stuttering in the image will supposedly be substantially improved. It's worth stating that I am no expert on this and I cannot from experience vouch for the accuracy of any of these claims. These are merely things I have read or seen in other CZcams videos, which are reliable sources. In particular, I refer to videos I've seen posted by Michael Brown of X-Force PC. X-Force PC builds custom gaming and Flight Sim computers for sale. From X-Force PC's website: "X-Force is the logistics partner for Laminar Research (X-Plane)." That's as much as I have to contribute, but I would LOVE to see some replies from anyone who is more versed than I am on API's, Vulkan, & specifically, how reliable the report is that X-Plane 11 will soon be implemented with the Vulkan API. I hope that's helpful and thanks in advance for any replies!
They are moving to Vulkan very soon so stay tuned!
Q8Pilot That’s fantastic news & thank you for taking the time to reply! Once X-Plane has switched to Vulkan, would you consider doing an updated version of your video? I think it would be especially informative with multiple monitors or even multiple 4k monitors. I know it’s a lot of work & it must be SUPER time consuming to produce a video like this, so please know we really appreciate all the work you put into this video & my apologies in advance for my request, but my sense is Vulkan should at the very least make it possible to use three 1080p monitors, have settings put at higher performance and yet still maintain at least 30 FPS, if not 60 FPS and free of stutter. Thanks again so much and again, really fantastic job!!
Brilliant video, thank you for sharing your settings and knowledge with the community sir! Please keep the vids coming :)
Thank you for watching and for your kind words!
Tried the same settings on my system and enabling AA to 8 times really killed my FPS, lost 20 frames.
Have to stick with 4 times and put up with a little bit of the shimmering, got a OC 1070 obviously not powerful enough to go to 8 times.
Great vids as always, look forward to your tutorials.
Your specs are just too.good!! Can't wait for Laminar to optimize the sim more, you can run everything in 100% max with 60fps.
That makes 2 of us. I certainly hope they would start looking into it.
Thanks for this video, Osamah. I'm flying with similar hardware (i7700k/GTX1080/32GB Ram on Hackintosh) and a 4k monitor. Your suggestion to turn down antialiasing saves me 10-15 fps. Thanks for all your videos and great advice. Cheers!
I am glad this helped! Thanks for watching my friend =)
the new updated beta raised my frames by 10, i can now almost max my sim completely out, its great.
specs?
Thanks for putting this together!
Thanks for watching buddy and for taking the time to write =) Appreciate it!
How do you double thumbs up? :)
Andy Lockhart make another account
👍👍
Osama: thanks for another fine video. I really appreciate your help as I have struggled with X-plane and without help from folks like you, I'd probably revert back to FSX.
SUBSCRIBED. By far the best guides on CZcams for XP11
Welcome to my channel my friend and thank you for your kind words!
General comment on World Objects... I fly with orthophotos nearly exclusively and I prefer WO set to medium or low, and find it takes the number of houses down (a lot of which are located in what I know to be commercial areas) and allows the photo scenery show better.
I will test this for sure. Thanks for the info!
I watched this the day it came out & went back to my settings to try some things you suggested & have come to the conclusion that its time to move to a GTX1070 or 1080TI to get enuf fps to fly comfortably ie with Payware. Thanks for patiently taking us thru your settings because for me you are the Gold Standard for me now Take care my friend
I am most humbled Rand, thanks for your support buddy, very much appreciated!
FXAA is a really old AA tecnique it smoothes out texture detail a lot I use SMAA injector instead its a lot more prestine qualitywise
Thank you Osamah, much appreciated, made a difference in my overall performance.
Glad this helped, thanks for watching my friend!
Awesome as always..I greatly appreciate ur work bro!!!!!
I appreciate your kind words my friend, thanks for watching!
Great video once again. keep them coming!
Thanks for watching Brian!
An excellent in-depth video. Invaluable to those newcomers to X-Plane, and I'm sure, to those already familiar with the platform, Many thanks Osamah!
Thank you for your kindness and for watching the video Donald!
Just got me a shiny new RTX 2070! Can't wait to test this out!
How is it?
This video was helpful and informative thank you
Brilliant once again, thank you very much.
Most welcome, glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching!
Mate you forgot a word in the title "Complete *GRAPHIC* settings guide.." but its a rlly good tutorial, if you could do one on controls it would help a lot of people too
Very detailed settings video. Awesome video :) Thanks again.
Thank you for your support Shane, very much appreciated!
Great vid Osamah! As usual. Thank you! Also, there's an addon on the org that'll give you fine grained control over the render options that you were talking about, cars vs. roads vs. autogen. Render options for XP11: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/36925-rendering-options-for-xp11/
Thanks again!
Thanks for watching and for the info!
Thanks for this video, I didn't realize in order to get decent reflections at night from the water that you had to bump up the reflection settings that high. :(
Most welcome thanks for watching! Yeah it is a shame really that the sim is no way near optimized yet. But it is getting there!
Triple thumbs up. Thanks I needed that.
@Q8Pilot, you have some video tutorial for beginners in Xplane, use of some basic features, operations functions and etc. If you have please I recommend, your channel is fantastic.
Thanks for posting! This was very helpful.
Glad this was helpful for you, thanks for watching!
Sir I opens the system manager of nividia as well but there's no xplane in my 3d options I also got it on driver d like you have .... what could be wrong ...
Love your vids Q8, since this video is over a year old now I'm curious what may have changed in past XP11 updates etc. I understand the left sliders in the graphics settings are GPU intensive & the right sliders are CPU intensive. Having said that one would think the reflections slider wouldn't necessarily affect the fps of the sim but the power that is being requested by the CPU in order to show more/better reflections. I'm going to do some tests of my own soon to see how much the reflections slider will increase the load on my CPU in the sim.
Thanks again. Great Info.
Thank you for watching Michael!
Great video!
Thanks buddy!
Excellent video! What monitor do you use?
From my testing with X-Plane11, using task manager on my second monitor, nothing matters except the GPU. I have a 5 year old i7 4000 series CPU and its only running at 15-20% utilization during the entire flight and I never use more than 8-9GB of RAM while running, no matter what the settings are. So, I'm not clear on why you would need to overclock or tweak a MB especially with a new i7 in it. My problem is my old nVidia GTX780, it runs at about 100% all the time while the graphics settings are set pretty high. So, my next move is to pick up a new GPU, then we should be done with it.
Steve Banas The 20% is indicating only one core is being used. I have the same cpu and a 1080. Using the in game benchmarks I can see that the cpu is bottle necking the game. There are discussions about cpus and xplane on xplane.org I believe.
Great vid and info, captain.
Thank you my friend =)
Thanks for the good guide. I can report my settings on a very basic specs computer:
Pentium G4400, 8 gb RAM and Nvidia video card GT1030 2 gb VRAM, SSD, H110M motherboard, Windows 10 Pro, X-Plane 11.10 Steam, Playing at 1920X1080 resolution on a 27 inch monitor;
Both Visual Effects and Texture Quality are set to the maximum allowed (slide rule right end), Antialiasing one notch FXAA, Number of World Objects two notches Medium, Reflection Detail none Minimal, the Draw parked aircraft box checked, Draw shadow on Scenery box unchecked, and 60 Lateral field of view.
Frame rates : at KSEA airport about 35, when flying above 40, very OK to me on such basic hardware. But, the main problem is when I start flying for about 1/2 hour the scenery drops and I had to manually reload scenery from the Developer tab, for which I'm still puzzled and want to know what caused it. Someone suggested I upgrade to a 4 core CPU such as i5 but I'm not sure whether it is due to cpu low specs or the insufficient graphic card VRAM of 2 gb or something else. I appreciate advice from anybody who know a fix.
i got gtx 780 as i understand is a very good card,,,to get 4k textures, do i need a ti card, and 4k monitor,,,i understand the radeon 480 is very good,, to get 4k textures what u suggest,,,i have i7 4770k ive never overclocked,,,,
Very informative! Thanks!!
Glad you found this helpful, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the view into your settings. Would've to know all the plugins and libraries you are using for X-Plane.
Very nice video. My rig is very similar to yours, and you've helped me eek out a little more performance. Thank you.
Glad this has helped. Thanks for watching buddy!
Just a note to those watching: You will ALWAYS get lower fps from cockpit view and even lower in glass cockpit view which is where you are realistically flying in. Also night lighting will give lower fps than daylight. In my case flying airliners, the most intensive scenario is 737 cockpit view, at busy airport LAX at night. If I tweak settings to get 25-30 on ground in these conditions, I won't have to worrying about any FPS warnings as I transition to add on airports, stormy weather, ect.
Rooster CogburnThanks for this and all your videos. Short question - what joystick or yoke do you use? The long of it... I use a CH Products yoke, and frankly... it's terrible. If (and it's a BIG 'if') there's a theoretical center to the shaft, I can pull back, let go, and it sticks up to a half inch off center. Same deal when I push forward... I can let go and it'll stick forward of center, a half inch (or so). So, trimming, while I understand the concept, is a PITA. Relieving pressure to allow it to go to center, can be up to an inch's difference, depending on whether I'm pushing or pulling. Forget delicate controlling of the aircraft. Particularly trying to make subtle adjustments on final. Anywho, any advice would be appreciated.
CH products are lousy to say the least. I have the HOTAS Warthog and RD1 RedBird Alloy for rudder.
I hope you see this but I love the fact that you sound like the guy from fnaf sisterlocation. Also thank you for this guide.
Osamah, I am so excited I just had a computer built and will be a flight sim pilot again in X Plane11! thank goodness!
Oh wow! Let me know how it goes, would love to hear about the specs and performance.
Very,very useful. Thanks !!!
Hi Q8. I really enjoy your videos. Quick question: You switch between day and night at the press of a button (I hear) How do you do that?
You da real MVP!
Thank you so much for this very appreciated video! Always a great help! Any idea how I can get rid of the trains in XP?
Congratulations for your video. may I ask the better CPU , Graphic card and memorys to give good fly and not to expensive $ . Thanks. LGAFilho
Great job with this video!! Regards from Uruguay!! :)
Thanks a whole bunch Mike =) Greetings from Kuwait!
Excellent my performance was significantly improved. I have a GTX 960M 4GB Nvidia, 16GB ram, @2.60Ghz i7
Do you use v-sync in nvidia control panel or in-game?
Great video Osamah. These are the most informative videos you make and are my favorite. I noticed that you have more settings in your Nvidia Control Panel. I wonder whether that is a problem with my installation? Perhaps it is because I don't have as good hardware as you.
Thank you my friend. The additional settings I have are due to the monitor I have which is G-Sync enabled.
Thanks for the video, helped me quite a bit. I have the same processor and GPU as you but I haven't overclocked.
Glad you enjoyed the video my friend!
Great vid. Thanks a lot.
Most welcome, thank you for watching!
Very Good vidéo ! Good Job ;-)
Can you make a video in which you explain the XP-11 Rendering add-on in detail ? Most say that it helps with the performance quite a lot with the correct tweaks.
How do you change from day time to night time like that?
Do you know how I can completely turn off shadows? Please help me, I've looked everywhere and can't find the solution anywhere.
Q8Pilot, according to the Laminar Research video about Configuring Rendering Options when you change the slider for any of the settings which are GPU related (Visual Effects, Texture Quality and AA) you need to restart Xplane for the changes to take effect. How were you able in this video to simply click the "Done" and see the changes immediately? Confused...
still very useful ! Many thanks !
Excellent video, thanks!
Hello friends I am an infant in flight simulation ..I would like to buy a new system for x plane simulation. Can you suggest the required system configuration for obtaining Very good simulation result both visual and performance..
I don't know why laminar toned down the graphics settings for 11? XP has always been a powerhouse when it came to user options. I get the new UI but all they have done was handicap the SIM as far as settings go.
I think they wanted to make the sim easier for new comers, but I think they went overboard!
Thank you for this Fantastic video! U helped me a lot with this!! Tytytyty
Excellent
I’m keen to know if u can use like a cessna throttle and yoke on like the 737 and other planes
thank you Osamah, as always awesome video.
Thanks a million Jake and thank you for watching my friend!
Man i wish I had 25-40 fps. stuck at 9-15 with my laptop ;(
You’d be better off with a desktop pc than a laptop
A laptop with a gtx 1080 is fine but I agree,A desktop is the best way for flight simulators!
How about my old ass pc, lowest settings for everything and max 11 fps. Fml
Says something about flight sims when we are happy with 25-40 fps. I know what you mean though.
X-Plane will not work properly below 20fps. So you need to turn more settings down or find another computer. X-Plane’s flight model doesn’t work at your FPS.
Do you use the "Let the 3D application decide" or the "Use the advanced 3D image settings" mode in the NVDIA Control Panel?
What monitor do you have ?
Hello Q8 Pilot!!! Very helpful video!! I was wondering, would my frame rate be acceptable or even good if all settings would be around medium on a GTX1060? What would the best setting for it? Thank you and keep up the awesome work!
Glad this was helpful. That would depend on your CPU as well, but a GTX1060 is a good card.
Ok, good to know! Also, I've finally found a Ground Handling set (JAR Design) for the Flightfactor A350, but it needs to be named (since it is" blank"when you download it) but I don't know what to call it. In the description the creator says to call it "A350" but that did not work. Did you perhaps rename it in the correct way or do you know what I should name the file? Thank you
Very good video...what shurtcut do you use to go day to night to day quicly?
Good vid
Thanks buddy!
techie had my pc yesterday and was using x-p with keyboard strokes. now my buttons and hat switch are not doing as they have been programmed. what to do? restored defaults re calibrated and re assigned buttons on yoke. no difference any suggestions?
Thanks
Should I go with a 1080 or 1070? I mean they both have the same amount of VRAM, but different clock speeds, is clock speed of a GPU really important in Xplane 1. Also whilst your here, should I get an i5 8600k over an i7 7700k, because Xplane 12 could utilize 6 cores in the future.
Thanks for the help
Get the i7 7700k and the 1080.
Q8Pilot jazakallah Osama, but any specific GTX 1080 because I did find an MSI one for £504 with a 1.71GHZ clock speed
Q8Pilot actually what about the i7 8700k? I’m aware that XPLANE utilises 4 but just for the future, maybe 6 could be viable.
Very informative video Osamah keep up the great work :)
Glad you enjoyed it Lee, always good to hear from you =)
Haha thanks you too
Thank you amigo. you are the best.. I got better FPS now with this settings :)
Glad this helped! Blue skies =)
Osamah, great video
Glad you enjoyed it Manley!
I know you use one monitor but do you have a video that uses three? I need to know how to do it and what to type in where. I contacted Xplane and they said read manual but I have no computer smarts so it’s like reading Spanish!!! Thanks
in this video you mention "this is the xmp profile" and then talk about the cpu speed? xmp is just ram related for ram speed to clarify
How do you get rid of the propeller wash when flying. Your video at the end does not show up the propeller. At nighttime flying it distracting.
is the i7 8700k a better CPU to get? I'm about to build my first PC and I want it to last a while. So basically, I don't want outdated components. Any help with a good build design would be so much appreciated.
Yes yes it is lmaooo
This might have been asked before but what kind of monitor/resolution are you using?
I like my ' field of view ' at 90 , is that bad ?
If this program wasn't running on that 16 year old opengl you'd probably get 40 or 50fps in that location. You have beefed up specs for x-plane 11!
Very nice video and thanks for sharing. I am learning from zero
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!
A Very Big Help: My good days are a FPS 13 (With wind and tide with me) so you can see this video is a BIG BIG help.
Awesome video, tell a lot of detail.
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it!
is there not an option in graphics tab in xp for windowed screen. i'm using two monitors; is that why i don't see windowed option?
What is your resolution for the game in this video?
Salam Captain Osama - Do you think or have seen anyone believing that X-Plane can benefit from two graphic cards in SLI mode (such as 2x GTX 1080 Ti)?
Maher Sbenati that's overkill and would most definitely bottleneck any cpu you throw at it. Xplane's own devs stated that the best bang for buck is 1070/i7 7th or 8th gen.
Great information once again Osamah supper PC setup you have
Thanks VIC =)
great vid q8! thx
Thanks Jon, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Osamah, very helpful.
Most welcome, glad it helped!
