Hi Brent! Thank you for the awesome video. Would there be any added benefit to putting the ankle in a closed-pack position for this manipulation? Thanks!

I think that is a nice idea in theory that may not workout in practice. You'll notice that hands are already a bit bunched up.

Hi. Are there any contraindications for Achilles’ tendon repair patients (7 months post op) with heel anchors?

Would there be any benefit with something like this if my ankle was severely broken? I'm sure I need a full assessment but this video has me curious. I feel pain in what I believe is the talocalneal. When the pain starts it's sudden and pushes me to nwb for 15 minutes to a half hour. My heal literally feels locked, but without cramping. I rotate and flex everything in the foot until it feels loosened, then I can slowly start walking again. My break was about 4 years ago, super low tib/fib through the ankle, tendons torn, and I have a plate down the outside of my lower leg that stops at around the midpoint of my ankle joint. Interesting vid, thanks!

      Hey Katy,
You are certainly past the bone healing phase, but I would be curious about your hardware. Not that this technique could effect the hardware, but I would want to make sure the hardware would not prevent improvement from this technique. I would certainly recommend joint mobilizations to help your ankle get back to normal mobility.

Is a relative lack of motion pretty noticable or is it possible to overlook a talocalcaneal coalition during the mobilisation?

It is noticeable once you know what your feeling for. A little practice, trying it on a few different people, and maybe getting a little help from a colleague, and you should be able to get this down pretty quick ;-)
I am assuming by coalition you mean joint fusion.. I would think fusion of this joint is fairly rare.
