I love this man. He has the strength, the strength, to go through Hell and prosper. I hold him as high, if not higher than General George S. Patton Jr. A real warrior. The warrior is so simplistictic, born within several centuries, I thank the good Lord that men like him have gave EVERYTHING. God bless America. God bless the Warriors.
I met him twice. A great man and a true warrior. I wish I could could have served with him, I bet he was a great boss.
I've read quite a few different SEALs accounts (Darryl Young, Gary R. Smith, Bob Gormly, etc. al.) about their experiences in Vietnam. Marcinko seemed to me to better describe the abilities of teams he led to adapt (like not wearing the big shit stomper combat boots) to things that were going on. If that makes sense. In terms of efficiency, killing NVA/VC or capturing them Marcinko self described as being really bad ass at that as well. Low numbers of SEAL fatalities was also in there, the Rogue Warrior book that is. I don't know. Marcinko just seemed like a real nut buster MF'er to me.
Chuck Norris was in the Air Force first of all, and both of these men are in their 70's so the only way they will fight is over a senior citizen parking spaces. By the way they are both humans, not indestructible. They couldn't kill you by poking you with their thumbs with an old secret death touch technique. Someday when you kids get older hopefuuly you'll understand this.

I saw Marcinko at Busch gardens in williamsburgh VA. I spotted him because of the long hair and he looks like a Cherokee Indian. I couldn't help but stare a little bit, and that dude picked up on me and was using his side vision like a hawk. I analyzed him and he was real calm. I mean ice cold. It's like he went into like deep concentration. I recognized him because I have several of his books. I was going to speak but common sense told me better(laugh)

But when people say DEVGRU or SEAL team 6 everyone know they mean the elite of the elite of the SEALs.

My first thought after 9/11 is we better get Marcinko into this show.
If this unit doesn't officially exist, why were they mentioned in the news like it was nothing. Why was the media allowed to know/mention to us that DEVGRU members were among the dead on the Aug 6th crash? Why were there so many of them(SEALs/PJ's/CCT) on the helicopter....?

@MyMerlin1 I believe so, but it still doesn't change the fact that Osama would have died anyway. What happened to Linda certainly sucked but an operators job is never easy and it shows no unit is ever perfect.
i worked with russian SP OPs durring the 80's. they won't tell you that, but i worked with them.
maybe they are lying you know to protect them if they would tell all those seals who were on the crash are dead then the enemy would perhaps stop looking for them could bee i honeslty also dont believe so many of those SEALs were on the crash

@mercturd85 true...but why is this the first time that they've been on the news, even though others from that unit have died. I'm pretty sure Aug 6th wasn't their first time. Why were so many on the helicopter, there's usually at least two that they would travel on so, so many won't be on one, so if one did get shot it wouldn't take out the whole team....thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if DEVGRU really doesn't exist, and that there's only one SMU/CT force(Delta Force). The reason being is b/c of how DEVGRU was just suddenly thrown in the media spot light. It might be a technique used to trick the enemy, like how when the SAS was created, b/c of its name(Special Air Service), the enemy first thought that their attacks would come from the air. But who knows?
Warren It was originally Seal Team 6; created after the failed Iran hostage rescue. The name was a poke at the USSR because we only had two seal teams at the time, so it was supposed to confuse them a little. They have changed name over the years, but they have remained a special built counter-terrorism team. Read his book. It explains their birth, etc.
Just read the book "Seal Team Six" by Howard Wasdin. And I was quite surprised to read that Wasdin, a Seal Team Six operator, didn't hold unit founder Marcinko in quite high regard. Saying Marcinko's books was "nonsense" and his past action damaged the legacy of the unit permanently.
That was a quite a surprise. I knew Marcinko was a very controversial but didn't realized the unit member considers him so. Does anybody know how Marcinko is regarded in general within the unit? or is Wasdin unique?

I read Wadsin's book to and I never saw where he called Marcinko's book "non-sense". He just said Marcinko and his clique had and arrogant attitude and treated everyone outside the SEALs like shit. Which is the kind of reputation Wadsin said team 6 was trying to change.

@dwgangsat They were classified officially until NSW was formed and they changed to DEVGRU. And Marcinko is known to stroke his ego, he isn't much liked in the Special Operations community, mostly because he sold out his own "super secret" unit to make some money off of books or tv interviews.
