This acoustic performance of Rook in a home in London on the tenth anniversary of the album's release was a spur-of-the-moment decision to stream a live performance of it.
And so-fair warning-it isn't a polished performance in any sense. I forget lyrics, overload the mic, and hit some questionable notes in some songs I haven't played since 2008. But there's still something special about it, and it was fun to spend an afternoon with the album all these years later, and wonder why I pitched all those songs so high.
I'm joined by Emily Lee on piano in "Home Life," and Mary Lowth on harp in "I Was A Cloud", as well as a host of unsuspecting guests from outsides, including passing trucks and airplanes.

This was beautiful and an absolute treat to listen to on a gray, rainy summer day spent at the office. How especially wonderful to have the birds singing in the background, too. Many thanks.
Words fail me, other than to say that this is indeed the sensation/experience of seeing a true Maestro performing his Magnum Opus (which I consider Rook to be). Ten years on, there is more world-weariness, yet the delicate-frost-tracery beauty of it all is still there, and it is still as timeless as the first time I heard it (I am writing this before the video has reached "The Snow Leopard", as I'm likely to be too much of a wreck by then). :P
So beautiful... Thanks Jonathan
I continue to enjoy your music but I often return to this album. It has become one of my favourites ever.
I feel an optimistic but kafkaesque at the same time, while i listen this with a teardrop in my bed laying ill, thinking about my past life and what i got left for future, with brilliant Joy and glimpsing feel of living the real art with a natural way of getting whole emotions on my lonely ears. Thanks for giving your soul to your music, that makes a lot! Greetings from İstanbul…
I loved everything about this. The birdsong in the background was a particularly lovely addition.
