While I didnt think of it the same way as her, I did think hitting was a sign of love. My parents hit me and would tell me afterwards that they do it bc they love me. Because I was told that I deserved to be hit. And they would also tell me if I told anyone and was asked why I was hit, I'd just be told that it was only right I was hit.
Looking back I was manipulated and fooled.
Very similar situation I was in while young. Definitely weird realizing how backwards that train of thought is, now that I’m a parent.

They get you so broken mentally /emotionally that the victim thinks they deserve it. Also abusers pick up on low self esteem early on. Thry listen to how you put yourself down or things you put up with from others and fill those needs with compliments and make you feel like they love you and accept you . That's why the victims stay because they think the person loves them despite their flaws and builds them up so they feel they owe them or they did something to deserve that person's abuse .

The logic of a partner putting themselves at risk for you is not wrong. This could be walking on the sidewalk closest to the road or defending your partner against someone. Where she is wrong is accepting the abuse. Hitting someone is not and I repeat IS NOT love and putting yourself at risk to protect or defend your partner.

Is Dr. Phil not supposed to help people? Based on this video alone, all he did was basically call her an idiot and a bad influence (i’m summarizing). Yes, as someone who is giving the same advice to others, she does need some tough criticism but last I checked, telling someone how stupid their argument is without showing them a different perspective and how it is better than theirs does not change their mind for the better. This interview that she had could have played a huge role in how she ended up dead. I feel like Dr. Phil could have done a way better job of helping her.
