Hats off to the designer who engineered this!! From start to finish incredibly realistic for this type of model rocketry. Much more than I was expecting.
@@cindysue5474 Yes the Saturn 5 is big, my brother and I built the kit. But this shuttle far outshines the Saturn 5 as far as realism goes, this is VERY similiar in motion and actions to an actual shuttle launch.

I don’t get all the complaints about the sound track. This is the most ingenious, original model rocket/ RC I’ve ever seen. From the slow, realistic take off to the separation of the rocket boosters and tank. All the way to the controlled flight and landing. WELL DONE!
I'm blown away by how cool that was. When the solid rocket boosters disengaged, I literally cheered. I've lived in central Florida for most of my life. I've seen the real thing in person. This was extremely well done.
I don't know how long it took you to do this space shuttle RC program, I have to say it was well worth it! I salute your workmanship my friend, well done!
Tell me about it that was very realistic, I loved it. I thought it would go to shoot off like a like the model rockets do. But that thing took off nice and slow reached a certain altitude and even released on...... Don't know what they're called so I'll just call him boosters to get the rocket off the ground. That's pretty much what's used. And then the big booster is to get the shuttle the rest of the way up into orbit.
@@DavidWilliams-mo6dj The white rockets are SRBs, short for Solid Rocket Boosters, while the orange stage is the ET, or external tank. Unlike the SRBs, which get the shuttle up to a certain speed, the ET is literally a massive fuel tank meant to keep the orbiter fueled for the majority of its ascent. Fun fact, it actually feeds the engines a different fuel than what the orbiter actually stores in its internal fuel reserves.
The space shuttles were the greatest spacecraft aerospace engineers ever created. Now somebody created a model with that much attention to detail is a achievement in And of itself. I would really like to see the price of a kit for this. or how much it cost to build it.
Fantastic rocket. The whole aerodynamics was good. The rocket even has stage by stage separation and the it releases the space shuttle into orbit. The space shuttle too had great aerodynamics, it flew nicely for well over 5 minutes and then landed. Amazing.
I built one of the first Estes rocket kits of the shuttle in 1976...flew flawlessly, separated and glided back down in a circular pattern while the tank vessel parachuted perfectly. My crown achievement as a sixth grader
The kit 1284! It was my 1st Shuttle :-) . Here the video of the "modified" kit I did years ago. Glider is different , but SRB and ET are from the original one. czcams.com/video/AFKblzuDLNk/video.html
I had the same kit in 1986 when Challenger blew up I was in 7th grade. That spring we were doing rocketry in science class. I stuck a m80 firecracker in mine and it blew up . I got suspended from school and a good ole ass beating from dad because we spent a lot of money on the kit.. no one thought it was funny also. The principal asked why I put the m80 in it and I replied I wanted it look realistic!
I buildt rockets myself when I was 14, some of them flew up more than 100 Meters. The (slow!) start of this Space Shuttle is the most demanding challenge - any tiny little disharmony in the Shuttle's rockets, and the whole thing will go anywhere. It is really nice to see it working, in fact the slow beginning is a miracle. Next time you fly you may land a little bit closer, so we can see the Shuttle in larger scale. Thank you for such highlight!
Actually, there's nothing slow about real rockets. They just look slow because of their size. The Saturn V, for instance, hit 125 in 5 seconds, 250 in 10 seconds and 750 in 30 seconds. But you're right that this launch looked more realistic because the scale speed of most hobby rockets is way faster than large-scale rockets.
Out freaking standing! Love the SRB separation and the roll. Main tank staying strapped to the shuttle is perfect. All in all this was truly excellent work. I agree with the below comment , the music could have een lived without. Oh well, that's the only bad thing about this video.
Man this was a totally awesome model rocketry demonstration flight! I put this right with the Steve Eves Saturn V launch as two of the best look-alike model launches on CZcams. I gotta get to work, but I need to see this again real quick. Made my day!
I was flying Estes rockets in the days of Project Mercury, and my first cluster was based on the newly proposed Titan III missile. Things have changed quite a bit! Beautiful flight, amazing timing.

I am so blown away by the performance of this model that I was three minutes into the video before I realized I was listening to some really crapy music and turned the volume down. Incredible design and build.
