- Welcome back to this series where we take a closer look at some of our favorite characters, with today’s video focusing on the rugged plumber from Resident Evil Outbreak. I had to dig deep for this video but I’m so glad I did because I learned a few things about his playstyle that will literally change how I play the game, so I hope you guys are excited!

David has the energy of the main character best friend that started as a antagonist/rival in an anime.
He's like the shadow the hedgehog of the Resident evil lore.

I'm glad you mentioned the time bomb and the knife slashes, some speedrunners didn't even know about the time bomb. Also, I think David doesn't like Cindy because David is a more serious character and Cindy is carefree and more laidback compared to him. As you said, he cares for more masculine things and Cindy does not. I think this is the most plausible theory, but cannot confirm it. Keep up the work and try to do Jim Chapman next; he's a real funny guy.
Cindy is afraid of him because he looks like a criminal.
David does not like Cindy because she is naive.
David most likely doesn't get along with Cindy mostly because she is the most sensible character out of the main 7, and David is kinda stone cold most of the time. Cindy's character is caring for people, being useful with heals, David doesn't seem to care for anybody in particular and his main duty is to provide weapons or ''fix'' things, polar opposites.
I miss outbreak. It was a lot of fun.
I don’t think David and Cindy dislike each other, it’s more Cindy seems way more team oriented and “we can do this together!”, having a positive attitude.
David’s a survivalist, and Cindy seems like such a variable / damsel in distress in this kind of situation. Aka get involved and get killed. And while he’s trying to survive he’s quick to joke about how death is right there around the corner for them.
If you’re playing as Cindy David wonders off trying to solve the scenario but if you seem competent (progress the scenario) he’ll back you up fast if you call for him.
Flip side is Cindy literally will follow David around but never listen to his orders (not that it matters, she’s like his best single player co-op partner imo, only gets involved in a fight when you’re struggling)
When David runs off, Cindy can yell through general chat “ if you don’t come back, I’ll never forgive you! “ she’s afraid of being abandoned by him and he’s afraid she’ll be the death of him (because if you played enough it’s obvious David would go down swinging for someone, anyone else; large reason why he and Mark are fond of each other; they’re both fighters)

I think David doesn't like Cindy because she is a bit of a bleeding heart, and someone as cynical and pragmatic as David probably doesn't appreciate that.
On the other hand, it's easy to see why he likes Mark: like him, he's pragmatic and focused on survival. It's interesting though that David gets along with Yoko; maybe he respects her courage or her matter-of-fact attitude
Yes David King is one of my most favourite characters in resi outbreak. He is basically the macgyver of resi evil I wish more characters were like him

Good point about Ethan Winters also project resistance. But resistance was not a very good game

David is also the only main character who doesn't have a determined age in the character select screen, kinda like Excella's "Trade secret"

Honestly I think Cindy and David have completely opposite personalities. She's masculine, direct, has a back bone of steal and was rugged past. Cindy is bubbly, carefree, social and well - shes a pushover as you can tell by her SP items. Her boss put together that bunny costume and she didnt have the gut or gall to tell him no.
He's my 2nd favourite character in this game, thank you so much for supporting RE Outbreak. To me these two games are SSS tier resident evil for me because of insane replay value, alternate ways to beat each campaign and so many play styles which is why I love replaying other RE games because of various choices or multiple characters you get to experience from different perspectives. I love RE4, all remakes, RE6, RE6, Code Veronica, DS version of RE1 etc etc but Outbreak to me is pure perfection in gameplay quantity for an RE nerd like me.
We share the same sentiment. played all genres of games, from classic horrors, to side platforms like castlevania/metroid, from shooters like halo and Modern warfares to RPGs like Elder scrolls and Soulsbornes. From RTS like Civilization and Starcraft/Age of Empires to fighters like Mk, Tekken and Smash bros. If it's a classic, I've played it.
Resident is my favorite series of all time, namely the classics. But of all them, Outbreak is my favorite. Of all the games I've played, Outbreak is my favorite. To me it is a perfect 10, above Ocarina of time, CoD4, Halo 2, above even Elden Ring, my current favorite game of the past decade.
I can not stress enough how much I love RE: Outbreak. To this day, i haven't given up hope that Capcom open their eyes and realize that Outbreak was so far ahead of its time. It deserves a second chance!
@@Ebelon If Outbreak was gonna be re-released as a remaster they're gonna need the community's help because i feel they've forgotten alot of deep reasons why outbreak is so loved also the games are pushing 20 years old so they do need to price the games reasonably and it maybe a bit lil risky to rerelease because gaming tastes have changed and newcomers and casuals can get easily alienated and may think poorly of outbreak without understanding why it's so beloved by RE fans like us.
I still wish the game gets an official re-release so I can stop playin it on my ps2 emu.
Fun fact for the timebomb it can unlock doors that can normally be tackled down or unlocked as Alyssa.
David is pretty cool. I like that he can create weapons with stuff and the wrench throwing is pretty helpful. Plus he's the only one to carry handguns and magnum guns with one hand.

I think David dislikes Cindy because she is a people pleaser, while David is a loner. Just my two cents
I knew about the 4th knife slash as it is notoriously tight in terms of input but, powerful when done. However, I didn't know about the timer bomb, I never knew David had a possible 5th combo weapon.
Ngl, I thought it was David King as in the dude from dead by daylight XD
For doing the 4th knife slash I would input the three standard hits then as the third hit is coming out I'd hold the attack button and it seamed to always do the fourth slash everytime. The fourth slash would knock over human sized enemies allowing follow up ground attacks or a chance to run.
Outbreak File #1, & #2 are one of my favorite RE games. I am really glad that after 15 years since File #2 came out there are still youtube videos still being made about the game and its characters.
Talk about a missed opportunity here; they could have had David make a mention to not wearing a tie as part of his wardrobe as a wink to the highly criticized 3D game 'Plumbers Don't Wear Ties'.

So David is pretty much the predecessor to the combo weapons from Dead Rising 2, which is another famous zombie killing game from Capcom.
David's Multiple Knife Slash ability is the hardest to use for me, because it requires skills and perfect timing.
Btw, it's best to use Time Bomb to force open door locked with simple-lock.
I think the main reason why David doesn't get along well with Cindy is because Cindy like cute things, while David as you mention, like masculine things.
And Cindy always seems to be cheerful and smile a lot, while David prefer to be quiet and hide his feelings.
I read on RE wiki a few years ago that he doesn’t care for Cindy because he believes she is “too childish” but whenever I’ve played as Cindy and had him as a partner he never seemed to cause much grief, although he would wonder off a lot. Probably just didn’t like being around her.
I never realised how detailed the background information on these characters are as I've never played Outbreak for any significant length of time

Fun fact in my school vr game David is the only known character that was killed as a civilian from outbreak who he ever have Stella/Ridley land on him or is accidentally crushed when Goalius missed throwing his mace at the crystal king overlord

Had zero idea about the timer bomb tho! Had a guidebook for Outbreak during the time I played it and yet it never had a single mention of that.
I loved picking David in versus mode just to throw wrenches in people's faces - always was a good laugh to talk about afterward. Man, I miss this game online...

Love your content Kai, and I am totally here for anything you put out, my issue is that I find your voice so relaxing that I often find myself drifting off to you hour of facts videos! Have you ever considered doing Resident Evil Lore to Sleep to videos? There are some Dark Souls videos similar to this, not sure if they are worth your time and effort but thought I would ask all the same! Keep up the amazing work, one of my favourite CZcams channels for sure.

Nice video on covering David. He seemed to be the only RE character in the franchise who could make weapons. Another thing to mention about him that not a lot of people are aware of, is if he is using melee weapons that break overtime, they all last the longest when used by David. But melee weapons used by Mark, break the fastest. Since Mark has the special melee weapon charge up attack.

Outbreak has some good characters, I still have both my copies from 2006 when they were like $10 at gamestop
I remember reading a magazine talking about the characters' relationship when file 2 came out, I don't remember why David doesn't like Cindy, but I'm sure Cindy doesn't like David because she thinks he's ill-mannered.
But now I'm thinking about this, maybe David could be disliking Cindy because he thinks she's too prudish?
I believe the magazine I read was PlayStation btw, so I considered that official.

My guess for the bad relationship is that, based on David's club outfit and Cindy's bunny outfit as well as David's macho masculinity, he was probably vulgar towards her at some point in the past.

So many details & features they included in these games. One of the reasons I'd prefer a remaster with mic chat support is that proper remakes are going to ditch so many things from these games.

I played File #2 since release.. never knew about the time bombs 💣
I learned some new things from here, had no idea David could do so many things with his tool belt.
I was always impressed with his knife skills, it's something they should have carried over to future games, Leon's pathetic little swipe always irked me lol
And seeing David's alternate costumes reminded me that I didn't 100% File 2 (I did for file 1). The difficulty spike really dissuades me but I guess that's just due to me playing offline with AI.
One theory about why David dislikes Cindy could be that he views her as childish and girly, the whole "survival of the fittest" I guess.
And I'm not 100% sure but I think he also has a bad relationship with Kevin, which I assume is due to him being a cop.

I always felt like the only one noticed how cool it was for characters to fire with one hand in Resident Evil(I was young lol) . I remember in the VERY early promos for RE4, Leon was shown firing his gun with one hand. Of all the features shown, for some reason that was what I was looking forward to the most lol. I was annoyed when they changed it.
