  • When younger movie fans think about Mad Max, they think of 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. But the post-apocalyptic action film series began way back in 1979, when it was just a small independent movie starring Mel Gibson.
    At the time Gibson was not the star he eventually became, but the unprecedented success of the movie was his career breakthrough, also making Mad Max into a beloved film and media franchise.
    In honor of this epic action movie franchise that just keeps getting better with time, here is the untold truth of Mad Max.

    Byron's and Miller's first short feature was called Violence in the CINEMA, not Violence in the Camera. Also the story of Mel Gibson being beat up is bullshit. This was confirmed by his then friend Steve Bisley who played Jim Goose in Mad Max. Mad Max's casting agent saw both Bisley and Gibson perform at NIDA and offered them the role. But only after they graduated because they weren't allowed to perform in anything while they were studying. After they graduated a few months later they got the role for their characters because of the chemistry they had. There was no "Mel Gibson beat up by half a rugby team and just showing up for an audition because they were looking for freaks", it's bullshit that Mel keeps repeating.

    • @Elitist20
      @Elitist20 Před 2 lety +1

      Fun fact - the NIDA 1977 graduating play was Romeo and Juliet, with Mel Gibson as Romeo and Judy Davis as Juliet. Two years later they both became stars - Mel in Mad Max and Judy in My Brilliant Career. While a lot of films were made in Australia that year, those were the only two big hits. It's hard to imagine two more different films - grindhouse vs arthouse.

    imo road warrior had the best villains, however fury road too had some interesting characters. Its mostly acton based, and action movies arent as popular anymore, however the costumes and concept art is a thing of its own, Madmax should definitely be a huge part of dystopian fiction on the dieselpunk genre and with a slight shift from the sci fi side of dieselpunk dystopian genre.
    One problem with Madmax was that it didnt have unique places, Barter Town was good, but it lacked places, i think this is a very unexplored genre as a whole, post apocalyptic dystopian, and definitely not that mainstream at least not in my opinion, it lacks some details every now and then,
    I REALLY WISH GEORGE MILLER COULD DRAW, MADMAX WOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKING AMAZING IF IT WAS A COMIC, AS A COMIC SERIES IT WOULD HAVE SO MANY MORE THINGS AND A BIGGER AND A WIDER WORLD TO EXPLORE, the problem though would be that characters in the comics would be a bit away from how they would look in the movies, which is a bummer to me when it comes to comics sometimes, BUT THEY NEEDED TO STILL EXPLORE THIS SIDE ! MADMAX FOR COMICS !
