What Happened to MAD MAX?!

- What is the best Australian movie ever made? Walkabout? Wake in Fright? The Piano? Picnic at Hanging Rock? The Babadook? All worthy contenders, no doubt, but they’re all wrong answers. The only acceptable response regarding the best movie from the Land Down Under is Mad Max, George Miller’s marauding motorist mania that celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2024. Never mind the billion-dollar franchise it spawned, the creative ingenuity and low-budget DIY filmmaking of the original remains one of the most impressive cinematic feats on record. A true independent movie with a rebellious spirit, Mad Max was made in just 12 weeks for a paltry $350,000 yet went on to gross $185 million worldwide. The film introduced the world to Mel Gibson, who would go on to play the badass road-racing Main Force Patrol officer Max Rocketansky twice more en route to becoming a bona fide Hollywood action star. Now, with the law-enforcing legacy continuing with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in May 2024, it’s only right to peer through the rear-view mirror and find out What The F*ck Happened to the trailblazing O.G. After all, some of the crazy production details and insane behind-the-scenes stories defy belief

When Max says to Fifi: "Look. Any longer out on that road and I'm one of them, you know? A terminal crazy... only I got a bronze badge to say I'm one of the good guys." that some powerful foreshadowing, because by the end of the movie, Max really does end on the wrong side of the law. He spent his whole career in the MFP trying to keep roads safe from savages & lowlifes just so he would become one of them. Truly powerful stuff.
He becomes the lesser of two evils and wipes out the majority of gang that attacked indiscriminately. He more or less becomes Batman in a way. A dark knight of his own.
He is better than those maniacs. He may have done questionable things but they can be answered.
The Road Warrior will always be my favorite movie, but Mad Max is a close second! I have loved these movies my whole life and they're still great.
Mine too
I have the 1:18 model ❤ i collect make youtube videos for movie cars
The original started it all, and for the small budget it had amazing stunts
Better than anything I've seen on Fast and Furious!
@@scanspeak00 yeah that shit is all cgi
😂😂😂
He went to anger management and became Slightly Agitated Max.
Silently Seething Max was the interim form.
@@negativeindustrial Hey it's still better than full Mel Gibson madness.
I met George Miller a few years ago. Got a picture of him & he is very nice.
How did u meet him?
Love the mad max series, I loved when they'd show the movies on TV channels back in the early 90s
This film is actually a documentary about everyday life in Australia.
Is The Slackers Of Australian Cinema.
Out of the original mad max movies. This one's my favorite. And toe cutters is the best antagonist out of the Originals
You know toe cutter is immortant joe

Yes. The actor finally becoming a worthy threat and have a more satisfying final battle. The actor is dead but his legendary stories will told through generations.
I had to laugh at 'filmed in the Outback around Melbourne'.
The outback is not the semi-urban or rural regions around major cities.
But anyway...
I'm an Australian cinefile and motor head and I approve this message 👍😎
When i was younger i liked the second Max movie the most but i have to say the first one is my favorite now.
Wouldn't you imagine that this quote came to mind, without even looking at the flick in over 5 years. " Condalini wants his hand back"...! Memory serving...😊😊
Thanks JoBlo
"My name is Jim Goose and everything's gonna be alright" . 😂
That scene where the van spin around after getting hit with pretty cool. I was surprised to find out that that van was hollowed out before the stunt.
😂 c'mon
It was sooo noticable
The Road Warrior has to have the most craziest stunts of any movie ever
Talk to me Goose!
This movie is amazing. The Road warrior was even better. These movies were a massive influence on my childhood.
There was a joke that made the rounds after the release of the sequel. It was said the most dangerous place in the world was a drive-in after a midnight showing of "The Road Warrior". It was true,
45rh anniversary of Mad Max!! Damn, I'm OLD!!!
Fuck 45? I'm 34.. haha
Was 16-years old when this movie came out. Can remember seeing it in the theater. Also, at school I hung out with all kinds of motorheads and the CARS from this movie was all the rage/discussions.
Last of the V8 Interceptors.
This is one of my three favourite Australian movies of all time, the other two being Malcolm and Dead End Drive-In
Being a Aussie the MM films get played on tv enough times😊
I saw Mad Max at a drive-in in 79. The American dub was really unsettling.
Great video
Great movie! I used to live around the corner from the place where Max gives Johnny the saw.
One of the few franchises that hasn't let me down.
Great Video
Happy 45th anniversary to MAD MAX
1979-2024
I Think The First Mad Max was set somewhat around an alternate 1988 or 1989 before the apocalypse begin in The Road Warrior
This Film is a classic of Australian Cinema and one of my all time favorite films
Thank You Joblo For This Video Mad Max is a great post apocalypse film
Also can you do a Revisited video on A Boy And His Dog it was the inspiration for Mad Max and want to see a video of it
You Guys Are Really Awesome
In my opinion Steve Bisley would have to be one of the most underrated actors ever. Proof of this can be seen in the low budget action movie - The Chain Reaction (1980).
Still the best of them all.
She's the last of the V8s!
Mad Max is all about the car. need to bring that beast back as it is iconic to the movie
I have all the original Mad Max movies on VHS and DVD.
Nothing happened expect that it stood the test of time. It’s a great fucking movie.
2:03.....this year! 😊
I was a big boy then, too scary for my taste back then.
Still, brilliant movie. Did see it on Vhs tape
After 40 years, it’s always considered a reboot.
Impressive that George Miller worked for three months straight as an Emergency Medicine Physician to get funding for the movie.
I was just a few years too young to see this when it originally came out, but I did see a trailer that was a brilliant example of over-selling the violence of the actual movie. As a friend pointed out to me when I finally saw it in college, the budget was too low for it to really be the movie the trailer implied. But the story was so good that I didn't mind.
Still have great memories of MM3. Tina Turner, Angry Anderson.
Remember seeing this when it first came out, My friend won free theater tickets from a radio rock station!
Epic in every way.
I thought it was going to be a video.About what happened to max and the interceptor after thunderdome. But Still great info
We all grew up with the American dub version. That's the only one I want to watch and I'm not alone.
I can't believe that it's difficult to find now.
My first DVD I ever bought was this movie and thank God, like my vhs tape for years, it was the American dub
😂
I like the new ones but I fucking love the first one. Just give us a prequel on asphalt. Max was a legend in the first one. Or even one between 1 and 2.
There's so much material that cam be written.
And no more destroying the Interceptor, please.
First one will always be my favourite. It had the most I terrsting characters. Toecutter and his whole gang. I remember how terrified I was by Bubba Zanetti back as a child. The overblown post war atmosphere was vool but never as intimitading as in the first movie. That barely functioning society felt like a candle next to some highly flamable material.
Walkabout
He got sadly replaced by furiosa, a movie that bombed not to long ago.
Honestly furiosa deserves more credit, it’s a lot more action heavy and after rewatching the first mad max after furiosa, I have to say, I enjoyed furiosa more
Judge Dredd was first published in 1977 (before Mad Max was released). They are completely separate original independent cult creations.
Only note: it's pronounced, by locals, "Melbun" (with a very short u) not "Melborn".
Then that's the way they say it. Other people in other parts of the world pronounce words differently. We're not all suddenly going to get Australian accents whenever we say the names of Australian places.
I have no idea why I haven't watched this yet
👍👍👍🎥
Real hope the mad max movies keep being good because it would be great to continue showing the world and what's next after furiosa
Mad Max Wasteland, follow up to Furiosa, is already in the works
They state here that Mad Max had an influence on Judge Dredds post apocalyptic world? And yet the comic strip came out two years before Mad Max was filmed, so its influence is debatable, lol.
Please do WTF Happened to Monkeybone
For the last time , the first mad max is not post-apocalyptic!!! The rest are.
I have an XB in America, it’s not a GT though.
CHECK OUT STONE.........
MelbORn lmao
Its melben mate
No sequel comes close to the original mad max.
I liked fury road better than the original, there just wasn’t enough action
I’m hotter than a rolling dice, step right up chum & watch the kid lay down the rubber road right to FREEEEEEEEDOM
Have always loved the original trilogy - don't care for the reimagined ones.
I like the first two and the third one is meh. The movies that came after have nothing to do with the original franchise as far as I'm concerned. No Mel, no Max.
Ask Mad Max!!
Mad max 1 will always be my fav just for how grounded it is compared to the rest but I do love whacky bondage murder hobos
All the reasons listed is why mad Max is so great .and why furiosa totally missed the mark
The original Mad Max is the best of the series but The Proposition 2005 is the best Aussie film ever matey
The misconception that most people had about Mel Gibson following his starring turn here, was that he was an Aussie. When actually he is An American from Peekskill New York who was moved to Australia in an early age ( but adopted an Australian Accent, due to kids making fun of his American Accent). Gibson still remains the Definitive Mad Max, which was his breakout role.
Thanks. Here's a tip: you can get a free beer if you bet someone: "they don't kill his wife or his friend, goose". Because it's true. 😊
I love the first part of the Mad Max series. Part 2 was also great, part 3 was ok. But Fury Road had nothing to do with Mad Max anymore and was at best a well-made action movie, but didn't fit into the franchise at all in terms of chronology and content. Furiosa no longer interests me at all.
My opinion exactly!
Fury road can be viewed in two ways, A. It’s the mute boy from 2 that took Max’s name
B. It’s a reboot
@@Nakedsnake36 Yes, I've read that theory too. But unfortunately it doesn't work. Max said himself in Fury Road that he used to be a policeman. But that's not even possible in the timeline of Fury Road. And there are quite a few inconsistencies like that in Fury Road. Even within Fury Road, Miller has jumbled up the timeline.
@@MacToecutter and the reboot theory?
@@Nakedsnake36 Like I said. Even as a reboot, the timeline is not correct. Furiosa was born after the fall of civilization and is about the same age as Max in Fury Road. So how could Max have been a cop before? He'd have to be over 70 for that to fit somehow. Max doesn't fit in at all in this version. I had the feeling the whole time anyway that Miller only included Max in the movie because of the name. He certainly wasn't important here.
I'm watching Mad Max 2 now and it's honestly fifty times better than Furiosa. There's no ranting fake incompetent monologuing Thor villain, there IS ragged, raw action, and...Max.
Nothing happened to Mad Max. It's a key piece in any collection.
James Healey - Bad choice :(
Might be one of the most underrated movies of all time
People are coming new to mad max and sense ive been a huge fan since i was 7 and now seeing all these new youtube videos makes me watch more content but being a big fan i can say furiousa was the worst movie out of all of them
Ive seen alot of mad max timeline movies because of the new movie but some of them are wrong so here is the full timeline 1984 mad max 1 / 1988 road warrior / 1996 thunderdome /2002 nuclear explosion / 2005 hope and glory / 2009 furiousa 2032 mad max fury road
What DIDN'T happen to Mad Max ? , Am I right ?
Furiosa: A Mad Max 5 Saga 2024 Anya Taylor-Joy & Chris Hemsw0rth
Budget: $168M
2 hours 28 minutes
The next wasteland film by miller should be mankind rising out of the waste and recivilizing. Max/Gibson could become a cop again.
I loved Mad Max I and II but it's been down hill ever since, and now its become an expensive, woke Hollywood cartoon.
I wish someone would make a film based on the world depicted in I and II and expand on that, without the woke nonsense.
Mad Max 1979 had a budget of $400,000 with a duration of 1 hour 33 minutes but Mad Max 5 Furiosa has ended in 2024, with a budget of $168M with duration of 2 hours 28 minutes
Before the main character was a man, a young Mel Gibson
now the role-leaders are women Charlize Theron in Mad Max 4 in 2015 and Anya Taylor-Joy in Mad Max 5 in 2024
Furiosa was boring as hell for me.
$100MM? One hundred million, million?
It's the American million, just like the American billion & American trillion, etc 🤣
The original was awesome. The follow-up Road Warrior was just okay. The rest, ...meh.
What happened is that it went from being GREAT to it being OKAY
... When "Just Okay" is acceptable, then we have a problem
Furiosa🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣...there are only 3 Mad Max films ...
mad max got less mad after the movie, they had to reboot it or move forward with mellow max.
· One thing infuriates me !!!!
OK, in 1979 it was rated R in theaters, fair enough.
But by the time the original came to VHS 📼, all the sequels were rated M in theaters AND on VHS, BUT the original was released as R rating on VHS. A full decade later, the scumbag lazy sods censor board released the original as R rating on DVD. These fleabags had EVERY OPPORTUNITY to re-classify Mad Max as M rating JUST LIKE ALL THE SEQUELS were [in theaters for `their time´]!!!!!
Tooo damned LAZY !!!!!
There was NO JUSTIFICATION
to retain R rating on Mad Max
in the decades which followed the
1970s !!! 😡👎👎
It was hijacked and crashed into a wall.. and what we have now is the wreckage.
Mel Gibson got old and the character was recast
What happened? It got ruined by the last movie, for not casting Mel Gibson and doing a bite and switch and make it a feminist power story. There's no Max in Fury Road, Mel is Max and that's it.
🙄😄😆😅😂🤣
😂 sorry you were triggered
Became wok. Wokmax 🤮
Mad Max to feminist films. 🤣👎🏼 Went from good to trash. 👎🏼
Lmao stay mad snowflake
What happened to Mad Max is that it got woke ! How can you go from it bieng about Max to not having Max in it at all ! 🙄🤦🏽♂️
Not sure how that makes it woke but I'd love for you to enlighten me.
don't go and see it then if its too "woke" for you
🤣😂🤦 yeah YOU just proved You don't Know what WOKE mean, which like a lot of people I see in various comment sections across different social media platforms. Some not all are IGNORANT. 🤦
People like this when someone says the word woman: 😰🤬🤯
Despite the name max is pretty much the secondary character in all the movies except maybe thunderdome
Mad Max is Cool 👍
Mad Mel sucks 👎
`Straya mate
WOKE BODY SNATCHERS got Miller....
zombies BELIEVE SO LITTLE in this new trash they're forced to continue the 'bait & switch' name game
It’s called Furiosa a mad max saga to show that it’s connected. Fool
The first was the best, second one was good. The rest is pure garbage.
Great video
