Dusty's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" is one of the greatest female vocal performances of all time. Petula Clark had such a smooth dazzling voice, have to add Dame Shirley Bassey, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector and of course Karen Carpenter

Very much so. To a lot of people's dismay, somewhere down the road, a performers ability to do something special, that not too many other people could do, lost it's validity. Change had to come. It was inevitable. Suspect, if you look all the way down at the bottom of reasons why this had to happen, you would find one word, and that is GREED.
Dusty was one of the greatest singer's of all she was absolutely brilliant a gem miss her so much she gave us so much GOD BLESS DUSTY AND CILLA UP THERE IN HEAVEN.

I’m so glad I was able to grow up with this music, the 60’s and 70’s were a great time to grow up my best friend used to dance and sing along, I miss those days
I spent my early years of the late 60s and early 70s waiting to be drafted for the Vietnam War therefore all these songs and music of that era hold great significance to me. In the Spring of 72 The Paris Peace Accord was signed which ended the US involvement in the Vietnam War, I joined the US ARMY in the summer of 73 but had to go pick up my draft card, I was number 54.
When pop music had melody, harmony, arrangement and sincerity.
Spot on David...sadly those days are gone, but what memories of the time when music was music, life was simple but happy...the less you had the happier you were, as no one was better than enyone else, but there was community and all helped each other....we could do with that world today....anyone got a time machine ? 🤔😏

Downtown is a brilliant composition, formwise. Melodic, dramatic, and having TWO climaxes - 'Just listen to the music...' followed by the even bigger 'Downtown...' Petula Clark is always professional yet so at ease on stage. Love the way she delivers the line '...to guide them along...'! Class act.
She was pure talent. Downtown is the first song as a child that stood out for me and left a lasting memory.
Downtown & several more songs for Pet Clarke [eg; "I know A Place"] were written by Tony Hatch & his wife Jackie Trent. Hatch was the Simon Cowell of his day on a talent show called "New Faces".

Absolutely agree with you on the late Judith Durham of the Seekers whom passed away in August. Not many people know that Dusty Springfield's brother Tom Springfield wrote several of their top hits that beat out the Beatles and Rolling Stones as well as other top groups of the time.
Judith Durham had a unique voice indeed, but she wasnt a solo artist until she left the Seekers. Not sure she ever reached the heihgts she did while with the Seekers, once she left🤔
Missing one and I can’t remember her name. Getting old is not fun. She had lots of his! No matter I love all of there girls too.

I met Dusty back in 1985 - I was recording at Odyssey studios in London and she was working in the studio next to us - she came in to introduce herself and check out what we were up to and she was extremely nice to talk to. I'm so glad I got to meet her because I'd always been a great admirer of her vocal talents and it was nice to finally get to talk to her.

I was lucky enough to meet Petula Clark at a dinner show she gave in Toronto just before I left for Japan. That was thirty-five years ago, and she couldn't have been kinder or more gracious. She always had a distinctive, powerful, clear voice. A true great.

Most of her material was a bit dated for the time. 'Make Him Mine' was unusually upbeat for her.
She was never able to cross the Atlantic. Her biggest hit reached #3 in the UK, but she never charted in the US or Canada.

Amazing. I heard a lot of this on the radio as a little kid and didn't know the names. But I knew it was great material.
Can't believe Pet Clark is now 90. Perhaps I shouldn't be thinking like that and just enjoy the memories of these great singers. They'll never be equalled. Dusty Springfield still makes me emotional after all these years.
It was such a shame but Dusty Springfield passed away about 5 years ago of cancer... of cancer .... What a Loss she had the BEST voice and I & others will truly miss her :(

Though I was born after Dusty's heyday, I'm a big fan. She had such a glorious and distinctive voice. My favorite song of hers is the one shown here, but of course anything she did was amazing.

I had the extreme pleasure to meet and actually sit and talk with Perula while on a cruise. The most gracious lady I've ever met. She took the time to sit with me and we took a number of pictures together. A tremendous talent and a truly remarkable and gracious person.

Yep. A totally lost art, Ann. Just about all females could sew back then. I remember my GF at the time.. "wait I gotta finish this up". unreal.The absolute best decade that this world has ever seen. I would give anything to return to it.
Marianne Faithful sounded to me like what I imagined an Angel must sound like. And looked even prettier. Oh what a time to grown up in.
Every decade has its share of great singers. The sixties were the start of my musical education. These women certainly had that rare quality of style and talent. Great talent will always be rediscovered by future generations. Wait until they discover the magic of Bassey and Streisand and all those who amazing talents that have brought us to today. Makes me want to see what the next great generation will discover and who will bring us the new standards.
