      Working stone and wood are not even similar. Wood, for all intents and purposes, is a uniform, homogeneous medium. Stone is hard, its soft, its tough and brittle, it has cracks, voids, inclusions, it has structure and alignment. Most of those features are unknown, until a blow is struck blindly into them. Michelangelo often had little to no idea what he was sculping, rather following the features in the stone and having it dictate the form. Thus, the notion that the subject existed within the stone and he merely cleared away the debris. That quote simply does not apply, here and to fabricating a preconceived form, from a standard medium.

    • @jmoto1983
      @jmoto1983 Před 3 lety +11

      @@springbloom5940 THAT is a much better comment! But not matter the medium (stone, wood, clay, etc.) the artist has a journey of releasing the sculpture within it. This artist took something that was destined to be firewood the same way Michelangelo took something that could have been destined for say a wall of a building and turned it into something beautiful. Michelangelo is saying that the sculpture was already in the stone and that is the same with it already being in the wood. The process was different the end results are identical.

    If this is how you produce a piece like that then there won't be many made, making it rare. Should be worth a hefty piece of change, and I'm quite sure there's Marvel fans willing to pay the price. This is amazing! 😯

    You are a lucky guy. Trust me, that ability of yours to understand spatial relations, that lets you seamlessly translate from a 2d image to a 3d sculpture and back, is not something to be taken for granted.
