the field came out really great, that blue pops!
Thank you Tom!
Simple green and magic eraser will clean so many things it is remarkable!
Yes it's pretty amazing stuff!
This machine is growing on me.
Most of them aren't that bad, if you learn the rules and really kind of get to know them. Almost all games have something fun about them that you can enjoy if you WANT to, a lot of people look for reasons not to like something instead of looking for reasons TO like things... that's one of my favorite things about doing videos, getting people more into stuff they might not usually give a second look.
Holy crap. I remember that pinball game. When I saw the catch/shoot (I don't know the name) beside each flipper, I thought I remembered that. When I saw the center target where you move balls from one side to another, I got a big smile on my face. Wow. This brings back some memories! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Ornery!
That is a good looking machine. Someone will be happy to own that!
it's getting there!
Your daily videos are beginning to be a part of my daily routine! I love watching these in the background when working from home. Thank you for taking the time to film and upload them.
Thanks for hanging out with us Jamie! We won't be doing daily videos forever, but we wanted to do them during the holidays! We'll still be regularly uploading though so we'll see you around :)
Looks great Ron!!! I think you do an awesome job matching colors. I don’t have the patience or steady hand to do what you do! Excellent work as always and can’t wait for the schematics video.
Thanks Clint, it should be up... tomorrow :)
It looks great to me! I some times try to do too much and screw things up. Leaving things well enough alone is some times a hard lessen to learn.
Tell me about it :) Thanks for watching, Mr. E!
I've found that with those thin pigmented paints a coat of similar color or white paint first really reduces the number of coats of the thin stuff.
I'm going to have to try that!
i watch all your video from begining to end tho i think some just watch it untill the adverts pop up i enjoy your channel and seeing the end results and knowing another one is saved from the tip u must get a real sense of job satifaction
Thanks 80s retrogamer, yes we get a lot of satisfaction out of fixing them! We appreciate folks like you hanging out and watching with us, see you on the next video buddy!
From recapping a Tormat to painting playfields by hand I give you credit for your patience. Maybe someday you can refurbish my Lost World playfield.
Thanks Todd, we appreciate the kind words.
@@LyonsArcade I'm watching the Jubilee from 3/15/19 gameplay, so we'll see how you do tomorrow.
Superp video Ron! I am certainly loving the how that you gave to us in this one. Thank you, and if anyone disrespects you and your how, yeah go ahead and give 'em all the ferocity and venom that they deserve; they are not "people like me".
We let 'em know what's up :) Thanks, ThinkBalance!
Looking good Ron. Steady hands with that touching up. Thanks for the video.
Thanks, we try :) We'll see you on the next one.
The tree looks great Ron! Back in 1986, I went elk hunting in Heppner Oregon which is a true old west, one horse town. I was a kid, but went into the saloon anyway and nobody cared. They had an old EM pinball machine in there. I think it was a Jubilee or something really similar. I remember it had an odd ball play field. I played the crap out of that thing in that Saloon, breaking the law like a BOSS! There probably was not a law enforcement officer for 100 miles and if there was he would not have cared either as the saloon was the only place in town to get anything to eat. I have often thought about that old EM machine and wonder if it might still be there buried in the backroom of that old saloon in Heppner Oregon.
I'll bet it's still there somewhere, it'd be hard to drag out on the back of a horse :) Thanks as always man, what a great story! There was another one just like this called "Darling" which was the two player version....
Sharpie, no.
Acrylic, yes.
Got it!
You'd know better than me Darren!
The center part with caged balls reminds me of Embryon setup. I watch your vids n think i want to start touching up pf's. Keep it up man!
You can do it man get one that just needs a little work and you'll get the confidence to do complete basket cases :) Thanks for watching as always ajaxaxxess!
This looks like a really cool game I like these older games like this actually they're not all but of this era ‼️®™️
Love your videos. Keeps me inspirated to keep going on mine. I've been repainting a playfield and just started a new project to recreate a new playfield from an old one. Trying to get them working first!
Looks great Ron! Only nit pick would be that same player shoots again insert... a little blue and black would have been better than nothing LOL. I keep looking at that but you did a great job on it as always and love all the videos.
Thanks Rastan, i'll spend more time trying to get the next one more to your liking!
@@LyonsArcade hahaha, thanks :). Wish you guys were closer to me, you sell those player machines for reasonable prices.
Well done!!
Great job Joe , yeah I am currently doing up a Jubilee on my channel and dreading doing the neon green and pink near the kick-outs this will be a test for sure
Marcho you do very good work, as other people have been saying painting white first may make it look better, that neon is so thin it's really hard to do! Good luck!
I think the playfield turned out really well Ron. Like a few other commenters have already mentioned, perhaps putting down a base coat of a lighter shade of green first, then applying the neon green, might make the process easier? Kinda like if you want to make a drastic color change on a wall, using a tinted primer first results in needing fewer finish coats?
I may try that on one if the opportunity comes up in the future, that's a good idea!
Looks amazing... and more importantly, it looks honest. It is nearly 60 years old, it should be slightly imperfect otherwise nobody would dare to play it.
That's how I see it too, thanks for watching MrRawalex!
I've been complimented on my "touching up" skills ;)
Another amazing job buddy. And hope you and your family had a fantastic Christmas!!
We did, Nothing like a good touch up :)
One more thing 😁 back in my boat painting days it used to be you had to put down a first coat of really bright white paint be four you applied your neon color. The white wood cover whatever you're going over " say a fiberglass repair "the brighter it was the the brighter the neon wound be 😉 now that could just be the paints I was dealing with at the time but you might try it on a scrap piece 🤔
That makes sense, I'm going to try that! Thanks L D !
Looks good Ron I hate trying to match green. It's going to be a nice looking machine when you're done. Have a great New Year.
Thanks Hopper we appreciate that, Happy New Year!
Good job though! Overall it's great
Thank you djmips!
don't mind about the green color, the complete playfield looks so much better now!
great job! ;)
Thanks a68k we appreciate that!
Nice work, it's looking great! Now it's schematics time!
Coming Soon :)
Hey, I got to see the playfield in this video. It was worth the wait. I'm always impressed by your touch-up techniques. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Pez, we appreciate it!
Hi Joe ! You did an amazing job ! It's gorgeous !!
Thanks Toutoun! We appreciate you hanging out with us!
Hey Ron, thanks for all of these videos. Have you shown the clear coating method you use after touch up in another video? If not, would you consider a demo of that in the future?
You can try a smart phone to get a color reference (some apps do this) and then paint a few swatches of your paint mix to see what reads closest to the original.
Or just do it by eye, which seems more fun.
They dry a little darker though, i'm not sure that would work for me... part of the fun is trying to get it right by eye :)
Great Job! Get Donnie a tripod and one more camera!
He's got a Tripod and one more camera but when you're kicking ass and rock and rollin' you ain't got time for that!
Have you tried using Silly Putty or Play-Doh to lift the dirt out of cracks there's also a sticky blob like stuff they use for cleaning keyboards I'm hoping to try that next on the Grand Prix 😉
I've never tried the silly putty, that might be worth checking out....
As you said you’re touching up looks better compared to the faded paint or no paint so you’re doing a good restoration on the playfield
Thanks Clark, you know you're all right.
This one turned out nice.. did you ever consider putting down a white base before using the neon green? It looks like pretty transparent paint.. also I use a wide selection of brushes for my touchups and a script liner brush with long hairs is really good for dragging those long lines next to black key lines, where the fat little brush you use gets wider and crosses the key lines if you push down too hard..
She's looking so better thanks to your touch! I suspect the colour fading is more due to the sun's uv rays than nicotine especially as the covered areas are still the original shade. Regarding the cabinet colour, is it white that's aged towards a creamy/buttermilk or did it start as buttery?
It has darkened but it was never white, one of the best ways to figure stuff like this out is to look at the flyers of the original games : www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=1321&picno=4252
As you can see the flyer is white and the pinball is depicted as a similar color to what it is now.
@@LyonsArcade Thank you for the reply!
That neon green. Have you ever tried adding a tiny bit of yellow to it? It looks like it needs the white treatment to give it that aged appearance. I dunno, just a thought.
It may have worked with kind of a darker yellow but I couldn't quite get it perfectly matched....
27:50 It probably wouldn't pay off to put a more opaque green paint under, then a few coats of that neon? It appears there also was a white backing paint under the green that imparts some of the vividity to the color.
I'm going to try that next time I have one doing this with a really light color for sure!
@@LyonsArcade ended up nice anyway, far, far better that it was. Great job!
Maybe someone has suggested this already but have you tried testing your paint on a clear piece of plastic let it dry and sit it on the playfield to see how close of a match you have before you apply the paint to the playfield?
👍👍👍
Heyyyyyyyy
some put white paint down first, then color match from there. hope this helps.
Hi Ron!
Quick question - When doing an initial cleaning on an older playfield, is it better to spray your cleaning solution directly onto the playfield, or onto the cloth/paper towel?
I personally lean toward onto the cloth, but I can see some potential advantages to directly onto the playfield, as well (especially for newer playfields... )
What might your opinion be?
it depends on how dirty it is :)
Looks great, how long did it take to do this video? Can not wait to see next one.
That video took about 5 hours.
if you put pure white down before the neon color maybe?
Someone else mentioned that, I may have to try it on one of these really neon ones or with the yellows, they are always a pain!
i´m very impressed of your singing skills as of your touchup skills! I just don´t get it! 2 unlikes?? Don´t you ever let those "rats" piss on you Ron! Happy new year!
I didn't even know I was singing on this one, ha. My best, favorite fans, I mean the ones that absolutely IDOLIZE ME, are the ones who follow me around, watch every video, and downvote it :) They watch almost immediately, within the first few minutes everytime I upload a video there they are, my greatest admirers and their down votes :) I hope to eventually be big enough to have a million haters, because it'll mean I have 100 million fans.
@@LyonsArcade I tell you for shure! I always watch the whole video. So you can count me to those 100 mills. Actually i want to thank you for the upploads you did under the christmas weekend, those helped me alot in this pandemic world. Thank You! ❤️

Could you show how you add clear coat after you touch up the playfield and backglass in the next vid please? What kind of clear did you use?
For the green would it work to lay down a layer of white and let that dry completely and then lay down the neon green? Kind of like using a primer coat.
I think that might, I may have to try that next time!
Awesome work! Wasn't this game missing charms? I thought you said so in the first video unless I'm mixing different projects here😓
Yes we will be working on the chime box and putting it back in soon :)
I have an addams family that is worn down to the wood. I can get the coloring near perfect but the original is much thicker and I seem to only make it worse with more clear coat above it. Any suggestions?
To be honest I'm not sure I could do a newer one like that very well, but the way you're supposed to do it if you absolutely want it perfect, is to paint it, then clear it, then sand the clear. Re clear it, then sand the clear again. Re clear it, and sand the clear again, eventually it will be level. To properly do that though you need to take everything off the field, use sanding blocks to wet sand it, etc. It's just a very complex and involved process that as a business with the low end machines we do it's not practical for us to even attempt to learn how to do all that financially. As a hobbyist though it might be worth it for you to look into.
re: the neon, it looks like there is a white undercoat. is there a reason for not undercoating first? Will it just look too 'new' if you do?
That might make it look better!
Just what I was about to suggest!
ha ha.. I was going to suggest white first too, I think I saw that on a can of spray on fluorescent colour - which did work well.
I was also going to suggest a base coat of white before the neon.
I was going to suggest a white base too. Good job and thanks for the videos
Ron, when you seal the acrylic with clear, do you do a couple of burst passes?
I'm not sure what a burst pass is but probably :)
@@LyonsArcade I was thinking light passes to blend in w rest of field. 👍
How many more pinball machines do you have in the back room that you’re planning on fixing up during the next few months
In the next few months, maybe 5 or 6. We've got about 50 though total.
For that much nicotine to be on the inside under the glass, the outside and other surfaces would have to have been absolutely drenched with it.
Yeah, I think nicotine gets on a lot of them but that would be crazy. I have had a few, though, that were sticky they had so much nicotine on them, and they DO darken the paint, lol. Mainly on the cabinet though like you said.
whats the soundtrack? i like it
It's various songs from www.BenSound.com he does cool stuff, you can download all of these free there.
@@LyonsArcade thanks!
brake cleaner works great for removing mylar sticky when you take mylar off
Whoo I don't know if I want to try that or not :)
@@LyonsArcade seriously..it works fine
I think you and Joe would be disappointed if you got a new game in, and it wasn't destroyed.
Sure it would be easy to sell on, but there is no challenge.
We break them if they come in working so we can fix them :)
The rats were playing pinball 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They were doing something or the other!
