A little more info on jury duty... You sit in a room with a bunch of other people doing nothing. You then may be called into a court room for jury selection. If you are chosen, you will stay for the trial. If you are not, you are released back into the big room with a lot of people where you could be chosen for a different trial. If you are not chosen, you are released. Either way, you have satisfied the obligation of jury duty.

Over a month ago, I received a notice of a Jury Summons, and well.. I forgot about it. Life gets in the way, you know?
I started watching your video, and remembered.
Called them up, and they had their first meeting on August 1st that I missed and they rescheduled me for October.
Life saver, man.

itsthekill In the U.S. if you are accused of a crime you have the right to be tried by a jury of your peers.
This is a group of 12 people chosen from the general public, that is then filtered through a selection process set forth by the state, and agreed upon by the Defense and Prosecution.
Upon reaching legal voting age (18 years old), your name is put into a pool, with a random chance of coming up for being chosen to attend jury duty.
If you aren't chosen, your name stays in the pool, if you are chosen, you then don't have attend for the next 6 years or so. (At which point your name goes back in the pool.
If you are chosen, you must report to the local county courthouse, at which point you basically spend the entire day doing absolutely nothing, and waiting for your name to be called.
If your name is called, then you go into jury selection, at which point, you may or may not be chosen to serve on a jury in a trial. (The defense and prosecution have to agree to each jury member)
If your name is not called, you're sent home, and don't have to worry about it for another 6 years or so.
Most people, are just sent home. =P

We like to complain about it, cause it's usually just a giant, boring, pain in the ass that eats up our entire day. However, it's a very important and integral part of our legal system, and our civic duty to attend and do properly in order to maintain our status as a free and fair country.

The jury process selects people to come in and then the prosecutor and defense both choose people to exclude from the list of the people called. Then the jury is the body of people the lawyers have to convince.
people in UK do it I believe only some not all and you can turn it down but it will only be delayed and eventually you will have to do it its between the ages of 18-70 some of this maybe wrong as I am only 16 and don't know everything about it

I agree, shooting the vlogs and editing them is a huge piece of work. But it's a bit of a paradigm, casey doesn't ever admit the vlogs are his work. Partly I suspect because his "work" and his work ethic give him something to vlog about and are part of the casey brand. Sure he does beme, but what does he actually do there? I have no doubt it was his idea, but I am dubious of his continued involvement. It's all part of the illusion, the story we see has always been carefully crafted like every camera shot. caseys work is mainly as a vlogger and of course, a filmmaker (I'be been enjoying his work since 300k subscribers and long before blogging started). CZcams is his passion and reaching 10, 20, 30 million subscribers will ultimately be his aim and people are naive to think it isn't 80-90% of his work.

Jack Morris, your comment is bitter but true! I admire Casey but I'm also tired of vloggers vlogging about their vlogging life. If only we had engineers and doctors (and other specialists) with such high quality vlogs and story telling skills that he has. Not just an interview, but actual, raw day to day vlogs. The closest example that comes to my mind is Louis Rossman. I have no idea about all the technical things on board repairs that Louis does but I do know from his videos what a day to day life is like in his profession. More importantly, I have learnt about lots of valuable life lessons and 'soft skills' required in his job.
Now, if I was a teenager and I watched Louis' videos, I would be in a much better position to decide if board repair was for me or not, before investing my time and money. This is only possible because we have honest, unfiltered recordings of an expert in board repair. This honest, unfiltered storytelling of so-called 'normal', 'boring', yet crucial, jobs (e.g. doctors and engineers) is what I believe is much needed on CZcams.
You are right: people are not naive. They do, atleast subconciously, compare their lifes with that of vloggers.

I was wondering the same thing! I'm tired even when I have less than 7 hours of sleep. Working full time + gym often + other activities -> no time left. Gotta use my time like Neistat!
He doesn' t and his health will go to crap. Go to Google Scholar and read sleeping studies/research papers on the subject (i have). Only a small fraction of the population (5% or less) can go on so little sleep without ill effects (say less then 6 hrs). I would say sooner or later it catches up with him. 7hr to 8hrs is about prime for sleep. If he can rid himself of Beme (maybe he has) then that should free up some sleep time.
I think that he takes frequent naps during the day to compensate for the little time he sleeps, but just doesn't mention or show it in his vlogs.

Idk about the US but in Ireland people who work in law like solicitors, barristers etc aren't eligible. School principals can exempt themselves as well as a few other professions, and people who served 5+ years in prison also aren't allowed do jury duty.

For instance, if you move, and they send the notice to your old address. Even if you still live in the same county, you can simply send them a copy of your new lease agreement, and be exempt, because they failed to properly maintain their records.
You can also be exempt for medical reason if you have a doctors appointment that day, BUT you have to get your doctor to say you scheduled the appointment BEFORE the day you received the notice ;)

I've been called in by a Jury Summons, several times. I've served on an actual Jury three times. I am a disabled woman with two very painful conditions, Multiple Sclerosis and Marfan Syndrome. I have survived three aortic aneurysms and am now on disability after working for a living from age 14 to age 31, when my diseases were at their worst and I could not consistently show up for work, due to the unpredictable nature of my symptoms and my medical schedule of doctor visits and medication management. So, when I show up for Jury duty, sitting for long periods of time is actually painful.
However, I consider it not only my civic duty to play a small part in our judicial system, but a privilege, that people have worked towards shaping since the beginning of our country's history. Jury duty is actually a pretty interesting process, particularly if you get chosen to hear an interesting case. Two out of the three times I was chosen to serve on a Jury, I was appointed foreman by my peers. In one of those cases, (an armed robbery case), we were actually sequestered in a hotel over the weekend and could not communicate with our friends and family while we were held over the weekend. We ended up finding the defendant guilty of the crime, but he was a first time offender and nobody was physically injured by the perpetrators of the crime, so we decided to let him off with a shorter sentence than the maximum, which would have been 20 years.
In all three cases for which I was summoned, the judge sent us hand written letters, thanking us for our service and overall it was a unique experience to be sure. You learn a great deal about human behavior when you have to be holed up for two and a half days in a mediocre hotel, with a bunch of cranky people who are running out of patience. But, all in all, I highly recommend it for each of us at least once. It gives you a healthy respect for how our system of justice operates. Complaining about it is a common theme for many people, but at least you showed up and were willing to go through the selection process, even though you are clearly one of the busiest people I've had the opportunity to observe...(and I realize that we only get to see a tiny fraction of the many activities that comprise your day), Thank you for illustrating that each of us can take time out of our busy schedule to serve our community by doing our civic duty when called. Way to lead by example.

I think he was in federal court. If he had been picked, the trial would not have started right away. He would've had a few weeks to take care of things just in case the trial went long.

I am a prosecutor and I truly do appreciate the service jurors provide. Years ago I too was a juror on a 2-week long sexual assault (rape) case. I understand the pain you're going through. Contrary to what the media shows, my goal is to provide the fairest jury and trial for the Defendant. Those forms Casey was filling out are called a jury questionnaire. The attorneys use them to pre-screen the jurors.

I'm not sure why I stopped watching his vlogs four months ago, but now I'll be able to watch three or four per day !
Shooting, and editing videos takes at least 8-10 hours a day of constant work. That's not including running your own business, and having a family life. Kudos to Casey for inspiring people.

Got called for jury duty twice while I lived in Houston. First time in 1998 I ended up on a medical malpractice case for 3 days. 2 of those days I normally would have worked so I got paid for them along with jury pay, so I didn't mind too much. 2nd time was in 2005 or 2006 but I didn't have to actually serve, so I ended up with basically a paid day off after leaving the courthouse by 10:30 or 11am. I notice they called you by name but in Harris County they give you a juror number and post number ranges on a video screen to let you know if you're selected or not. Loved the Law and Order theme!!
