Don't spend any more money and get it on sale pronto Matt. It's a great car with a full years MOT and working well. Don't tempt fate and do more work/spend more on it. You never know what could go wrong.

I agree. Be honest when you sell it regarding the potential timing belt - as I'm sure you are, then you can sell it with a good conscience. These things have a habit of running away with you. Sell and buy something else fun!!

"Evri have tried to deliver them apparently"
There's a reason they changed their name to Evri; everyone knew that Hermes were completely useless. Nothing other than the name has changed! You'll get three wheel trims tomorrow and the fourth in a fortnight.

True. I sold stuff on eBay and paid evri for next day. Only one item actually got delivered the next day and that was the cheap one I only paid standard delivery for! The others took between 3 and 5 days, 1 took 2 weeks and one got lost

loved this series, but you didn't need to remove the shoes. Just squeeze the new cylinders with a finger and thumb and slide it between the shoes. Also the drum was so difficult to remove because the drums gain a "lip" where the shoes don't touch, always recommend to grind off to make it easier next time :) I trained at ford in 1996. Congratulations on the Mondeo, always loved em

With rear drum and disc brakes, I spray the whole area with penetrating fluid and follow that with a weak mix of washing up liquid in a mist sprayer. Just a few drops in the bottle is all you need. Spray the whole areas or caliper assembly ( my cars have both drum hand and disc main rear brakes ) then work it in with a tired ex- nylon bristle washing up brush,
Follow that with a overall flush of hot water from a recently boiled kettle. Brakes can take the heat. That heat will enable all parts to dry off fully after an initial wipe over with a cloth. Very beneficial.
My MoT testers usually compliment my cars' handbrake efficiency. Comments like "That locked out on the Rollers" and ""Rarely handbrakes on those that good". Plus, and my daily driver ZT-T 1.8T last January passed with compliments without a single advisory. Rare for any of my old cars to do that. MoT due again in four weeks. It is a good one. We shall see...... 🙂
Good to see another amateur DIYer experience Deep Joy spannering moments. ... 🙂

This Mondeo series is reminding me of my first car. A Ford cougar (based off the Mondeo) which I bought in the mid 2000s in Scotland. The value dropped like a stone to low 4 figs after it was new in 1998. Mine was a 2.5 V6 but there were zetec versions as well, which would have been mechanically and electrical y very similar to this mondy. It was a good car with a surprising balance of fun, style, and practicality to own for a then-youngin like me!
It had an Intermittent electrical issue where it would blow a fuse on ignition, had to keep plenty of them spare, even an auto electrician struggled to find it, but they eventually traced it to a chafed wire behind the dash. I knew an obscure electrical issue would be at play here too (fuel pump+relays)
Brake lines were also an issue... had to have them replaced almost every service\MOT. Seeing this made me realize why, I was daily driving it through salty Scottish winters. In the end rust took too much hold of the floor pan and other parts that I couldn't afford to have replaced, had to scrap it in 2010.
Hope the next owner of this Mondy goes to suitable lengths to rust proof the car if it goes anywhere north of Bedford!

What I did tho (a nod to toyota) was drill two holes in the drum, one between two of the nuts opposite sides, tap a thread and install two bolts. Tighten the bolts and it pushes the drum off......easily done.......OH! and long nose pliers, thank me later........lol

Good Job. Surprised you hadn’t worked on drum brakes. If wheel is turning freely it can only be stud holes or centre hole binding. A squirt of WD40 will solve. If you wanted to remove the top spring which is always a pain to put back. After removing the shoe retaining pins, just pull shoes towards you. The springs will expand then suddenly release when you get past the tension point.

steel brake pipes are notoriously difficult to flare you need a hydraulic assisted flare tool much easier i found with one of those
apart from that great content hope to watch restorations in the future

“Looked easy enough on the video”
    Famous last words!😂😂😂
I’ll admit, it’s happened to me with the intake replace on the Vic.

There should be a rubber bulb behind where you could adjust the mecanism with a flat scewdriver. There is round wheel with teeth which opens the pads..Release the rubber bulb and adjust the mecanism..

Matt you need to whack the crap outt of that rear drum to get it loose..lightly tapping it wont do it, plus the hammer you use first is already good enough to tackle that drum...however you did an excellent job making this mondeo drivable again

in130th miles/200th km is peanuts on a Mondeo MK2. It has at least that same amount left in it. Also when removing a stuck drum hit it on the face side to break it loose. I suppose we are quite lucky in SA, a car only has to past a road worthy test when it change owners. Nothing like a yearly test except for public transportation and cargo vehicles, also insurance is not compulsory and thus very cheap compared to the UK and US.

You need to invest in a pair of brake shoe pliers, makes taking drum brakes apart and getting them back together so much easier, well done on getting an MOT pass

Always remember to take the handbrake off to take drums off and there are ways to invent a puller or indeed buy one

My Dad had a very tidy ford Scorpio V6 auto in black. Was fast apparently as my Sister ran it into the ground. Gave it back to her Dad, who then scrapped it! I would do the cambelt and liner and that's it. Never been a fan of Ford's.

Drum brakes always fight back once managed to remove a sizeable chunk of rim from a drum with one of those tools.
You had it easy wait till you tackle the proper Mini.
    Well done rescuing this one.

Drums can be very stubborn clearly. Depends on how far out the shoes are adjusted. If out too far, they create sort of a wedging affect that fights against you.
