      What is so great about a Multiair unit that is prone to failure if even slightly neglected ?

    My alfa is in the garage for a multi air swap after engine light code appeared with the dreaded P1063 code.. Only done 40k miles in 8 years total. Devastated, those multi airs are not cheap! £1,300 for unit, fitting and tax! Luckily I bought a full warranty with the car! So it's not costing me a penny.

    • @Drivewaybuildz
      @Drivewaybuildz  Před 3 lety

      Thats good to hear its being fixed under warranty. many companies try to get out of it with the MA unit. many mechanics also have never heard of an MA unit and believe they are all T-Jet. Sounds like you were very lucky all round. hope its back up and running smooth now. 🤞🏻

    Did you guys use the special tool ? If so, have you ever installed one without the special tool ?

    • @Drivewaybuildz
      @Drivewaybuildz  Před 10 měsíci +1

      theres a specific multiair fitting tool that makes it easier to refit the MA unit.
      but you can do it without although not recommended.
      check out torq motorsport Multiair spring fitting video for a visual of how to refit without the tool.

    Hey there, may i ask you where you bought the special tool and about the turning torques and the screwing sequence? :) mine just break after 68.000 km ... such a shame! right after oil exchange...

      Hi. This time lapse video was performed on my friends car. I will be doing a more indepth step by step video on mine in the coming weeks including torque specs, tightening sequence etc. the tool is called a 'multiair fitting tool' around £100 online. maybe try ebay. Hope this helps. 👍

    I have a P0302 with no compression on cylinder 2. Should it be the multiair or exhaust valves? How did you know your problem was the multiair brick? Thanks

    • @Drivewaybuildz
      @Drivewaybuildz  Před 3 lety

      As far as i am aware you can't buy replacement parts for the unit. This was filmed on my friends car. Think the only option is salvage off an old unit. 👍

      @auraur8419 Před 3 lety

      @@Drivewaybuildz yes I know. Is coming as a single part. That's why asked you about the actuator from the old one. Just didn't find any to breakers. Mostly german cars.

      @stevemiller2651 Před 3 lety

      @@auraur8419 The Multiair unit tends to fail in one of two ways.
      1; the nut that holds the piston in place works It's way loose. Caught early enough it can be removed, de-greased, and tightened back up with lock-tite to prevent it happening again. Left for long enough it'll eventually strip the thread. Still repairable by re-threading and fitting a helicoil but it may not last.
      2; solenoid failure. If this happens it's unrepairable, unit is only good for the bin unfortunately.

    • @Drivewaybuildz
      @Drivewaybuildz  Před 3 lety

      Yes. It's the only main weakness IMO. Everything else with this car is very hardy. Shame is, there is no real way to prevent this from happening. Some units fail very early in life for no apparent reasons and others still go strong. 👍
