  • If your original main earth strap is still OK but you want to add an additional one in case it ever fails, which it probably will. It's much easier and quicker than replacing. See in details how to do it in about 10 minutes.
    If you want to buy one, you can get one here from Ebay for £4.39 with free delivery.

    Note for U.S. 500 owners, this is not a common issue on U.S. cars unless you live in Northern climates, and the process for changing the ground strap is different as we have the 1.4 MultiAir and MultiAir Turbo engines, and the majority have 6-speed Aisin Automatics.

    You can put the earth strap anywhere as long as its connecting the engine to the body ground...no need to faff on talking the battery out.

      Hardly faffing. The gearbox is the standard place for an earth strap and you can’t get to any bolts without taking it out.

    Just bought a 2013 POP for my daughter as her 1st car. Lovely car, have been watching your videos to get some maintenance tips and advice. Great channel, keep 'em coming!

    Was about to call the AA and get my daughters car towed to get the starter done- after a bit of advice on a Fiat 500 FB page and watching this, saved me a fortune! Someone had fitted a flimsy braided cable and it looked ok but fell apart. Thanks mate

    Took your advice and bout the earth strap from ebay and glad this video came out as will add it as an additional one as no issues with the existing one.

    Great video Paul,
    Having seen this video I shall add an additional one to my Sport - for some added security.
    (Previously I did something similar to my Chevy SUV).
    Excellent video as always - very well described and demonstrated.

    Can you test the earth cable by running a jumper cable from negative battery to the engine block and see if that turns off the battery warning light on a 2012 Fiat 500

    Found your video as I’m trying to figure out what is wrong with my 2014 fiat pop. It does not want to start and nothing is wrong with the battery. If you wiggle the battery cables sometimes it will start. I can be driving down the road and all the lights on the dash come on, the engine shuts off and restarts. Someone told me it sounds like a wiring problem. I wonder if adding an earth wire would help this?

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I would almost guarantee it is your main earth strap. They are about £4.50. Definitely worth changing.

    Thanks for the video. I just bought a fiat 500 2008 (from someone I know so wasn't too concerned!) which has an error on the dash saying the sidelight doesn't work but it does (believed to be a loose wire) and the mileage is flashing but blue and me is working fine. I wasnt too concerned until it struggled starting a couple of times. It's recently had a new starter motor and the battery and alternator are both fine. I came across this video, do you think it's likely to help? Thanks in advance.

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Probably, for £4.50 and 20 minutes it's certainly worth a try. It's the usual culprit if the battery is OK.

    Hi Paul, you mentioned 300mm was too a bit to long, would 150mm be too short ?

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes. 200mm would be better. Depends how you route it but I think 150 would be a bit short.

    Hello Paul. I have a problem with my Fiat 500. When I activate the side markers they light up for 1 or 2 seconds and then turn off by themselves. The same is happening with the brake lights. When I apply the brake the light comes on and quickly goes off. Could this be a grounding problem?

    • @Love500
      @Love500  Před 8 měsíci

      That’s a strange one. Never heard of that before. I would suggest joining the fiat forum and asking if anyone has come across that before. www.fiatforum.com.
