A monster and a living legend...one of the best thing about the artists who dedicate their life to their art is that they blow you away every day/week/year/decade. Virgil Donati is my hero.
i think they're called sky toms. it's not unncessary. he's just challenging himself, adding toms that are harder to reach. HE'S THAT GOOD!

I love the popping sounds of them Pearls. Great color too, Sea Green Foam. It's the drummer that makes the music, though. Go, Virgil!

Bingo, and you just described my dilemma with Virgil. Just because he plays super complex material only he can play doesn't mean he will resonate with a wide audience.

Le monster of monsters. And one of the very few who still play clear Ambassadors top and bottom (the Simon Phillips influence, no doubt). Beautiful tom sounds.
Steve Smith and Todd Sucherman too. And I believe Vinnie Colaiuta has done at times as well. Seems like it's a very Berklee thing to do! I have a soft spot for clear single ply on toms, although the Coated Emerors are usually my go-to choice.

I did the Evans thing for about 5 minutes, and went back to Remo..Not knocking Evans, just not my thing.

@85Aheadstix I know - I'm having a lot of trouble with my 16" tom at the moment with G2 coated/G1 clear combos. Any suggestions?
Having said that, I think that Evans heads are stellar when it comes to higher pitched toms, snares and bass heads. The EMAD is simply magnificent.
AFTER I USED UP BOTH TOP & BOTTOM DRUM HEAD FROM MY FIRST DRUM SET I WENT TO MY LOCAL DRUM SHOP AND ASK THEM I'M LOOKING FOR THE BEST DRUM HEAD I TOLD THEM ALL MY FAVORTE DRUMMERS AND HOW I LO💚ED THEIR SOUND THEY TOLD THEY ALL PLAYED "REMO" HEADS AND I SAID "OK REMO IT IS I'LL TAKE ALL THESE SIZES FOR MY SNARE, TOMS & BASS DRUM" THAT'S BEEN OVER 2O YEARS AGO AND I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK

I personally really love like him being with Pearl. But somehow, DW drum, kinda represent his sound more accurately...that big, massive sound (even though I'm not a DW fan).

Matt Reilly In addition to his sig Sabians, if you pause at 1:12 you will see the Sabian Legacy Ride either the 20 or 21 with the raw band on the bottom and on the top right is what is probably a 19" HHX-treme Crash, which I know he plays sometimes from his official websites listed set-up.
