We got a Starlink early last year. I got it cut and placed in a Flat Box buy Outback Comms.
Its mounted on the roof rack. Just in front of the Tommy. So we can use it while in motion.
I also converted it to 12V. Makes it a little more efficient. As we run it 24/7 when traveling.
I'm not using the Starlink supplied router. Using a cheap TP link router with a Telstra sim as a backup. (I'm good at parking under a tree, when I really want to do something.)
So handy having a constant Wi-Fi hotspot.
We were using our Phones on the Canning Stock Route Wi-Fi Calling and receiving SMS.
I was even doing my Employee payrolls and banking Durba Springs!!!
Just don't park under a tree.
Starlink is a big cost. If you don't have a justifying reason to use it. The $500 for the unit and the $2000+ per year. Buys a lot of fuel and mobile data.
Did you stop a the Whale watching at The Head of the Bight?
    Keep adventuring and having fun.

Great info on your Starlink setup. Thanks for sharing. We are seriously considering it for content uploads, but you’re right, it is a big cost to justify. Having it available while travelling would be amazing though.
Wow that really is working from anywhere! Haha
The park was closed when we arrived so unfortunately we didn’t this time round but hopefully will next time!
Thanks - happy travels in your Tommy too!

🚙 Very informative, and great camera work, thank you. Could you tell me if you think an old boomer couple (in good shape) could cross the Plain from Sydney to Perth and back in a Mazda hatch? I’d do regular checks of water for the radiator, but I’m concerned about reaching petrol stations in time. Thanks again. Dave & Liz

      Thanks Dave & Liz!
It depends on the range of your Mazda. After a quick Google it is apparently 750 to 850km. Our ford ranger only has a tank range of around 500km, so you have a lot more room to play with! There are heaps of fuel stations along the way, we topped up when we saw one about 3 or 4 times. In preparation we got our Ute serviced before crossing for peace of mind. A CB handheld radio (from JB hifi) was also useful to speak with road trains (happened twice).
Cocklebiddy roadhouse has accommodation and good food as a place to stop 👍
With a little bit of planning I reckon you could do it. Absolutely incredible experience and we saw all types of vehicles doing the crossing, not just campers.
All the best and enjoy! Cheers, George

Thanks so much, George and Rachel. Your information is reassuring. I appreciate you checking on the fuel capacity of our car and I’ll look into the CB radio option. It would be nice to finally cross the Nullarbor off the bucket list. All the best for your next adventure. Dave & Liz

@@Meshwork123 absolutely! No worries - Make sure to check out Esperance when you cross the Nullarbor on the WA side. Incredible beaches. I have another video on my channel sharing our adventures there! Cheers, George & Rach :)
