Let marvel take risks with these characters/stories
Have directors to watch the movies and shows that connects with what they plan to show
      Have good stories

Marvel's biggest problem is that they went from the idea that it's all connected to creating shows and movies where the writers, directors and showrunners were not aware of what was going on in the rest of the MCU, they were told to not look at the comics the project is based on etc
Sure the Kang issue was beyond their control, but this is the same company that just replaced Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle because Howard wanted too much money, they couldn't just replace Kang and use the idea of him being a variant?

Honestly if they want to cut risky movies and instead make safer ones, I feel like they could pretty easily make that film and cancel the Blade movie that has clearly not been progressing very well behind-the-scenes, instead having the audience learn what they need to know about Blade in the early parts of Midnight Suns.

    • @wheattoast1971
      @wheattoast1971 Před měsícem +3

Midnight Suns are cool! They just have to really build up to that. Like Avengers and Guardians were good for the Infinity Saga. The Multiverse saga is being mishandled massively. It should be a team that spreads across the Multiverse Saga. Spider-Verse spanned the Multiverse, whether it was a Multiverse Team squeezed into a street level corner, or it was an actual multiverse movie, and built a team of multiversial variants. Every multiverse team from the comics is built up with variants of either A Hero, or multiple variants of multiple heroes. The Illuminati should have been the main team that deals with incursions and traveling to other realities to stop them. We build up their friendships and see them become mortal enemies when figuring out at some point, all but one universe will be destroyed.
For Midnight Suns we need to focus on Mephisto or Galactus as a big threat and have a cosmic saga.

I think Eternals was just too much story and character for one movie, and no real explicit connection to the rest of the MCU. GREAT movie that I enjoyed, but I wish it was delivered differently and not done in isolation. Let the characters and stories be the core components of the next phase, but integrate them into what has already happened. Show how they were always present but not involved, at least not actively involved in the Infinity Saga. Then bring in their internal conflict and tell that story. But here's the trick: Tie this into Guardians and the cosmic stories which were already really hinted out with Knowhere, Ego, etc. Then you can bring in the F4, Silver Surfer, Galactus, while keeping the Cpt. Marvel, Skrull, and stories you already have. The mistake was going with Kang and temporal multiverse stories, rather than Eternals and cosmic stories. The cosmic foundation was already laid out, but totally jettisoned to go with Kang, TVA, etc. Thanks for attending my TED Talk!

All these rumors are starting to get incredibly frustrating because one day we get the news that there's a report from a scooper about the cancellation of Eternals 2 just for another entirely different "reliable" scooper to claim that Eternals 2 isn't canceled and in fact it's actually going to be retooled into another project the very next day. So wtf is the actual truth? Is Eternals 2 really canceled or not? This isn't an isolated case either because we get scoopers contradicting themselves and walking back previous Scoops all the time. We get conflicting reports about the future of this franchise every day, and honestly, it's getting really annoying. The fanbase sharing these "leaks" is killing my interest in this franchise a lot more than anything Marvel has done. If "leaks" and sharing unfounded "reports" is the future of this franchise when it comes to speculating about what's next instead of fun theories, then maybe this franchise just isn't for me anymore.

I noticed too, but then I remembered that the Arrow stuff was for the TV show, And the Iron Fist stuff came from the the comics, 40 years earlier. And then I remembered that the Arrow story was changed in the 50's to show he had been trapped on an island, and then I remembered that Fist hadn't been on an island but actually been rescued from a plane crash in the mountains, saved from death, taken to a hidden Tibetan Temple, and receives special abilities, and then I remembered the 1968 British TV show "The Champions" in which three secret agents are rescued from a plane crash in the mountains, saved from death, taken to a hidden Tibetan Temple, and receive special abilities. And then I remembered the 1933 novel "Lost Horizon" which tells the story of four travelers rescued from a plane crash in the mountains and saved from death, taken to a hidden Tibetan Temple, and receive special abilities. In the Kunlun Mountains, for good measure. I'm sure it's purely co-incidental, but it was made into a highly publicized film the year before Iron Fist was introduced. And it's at this point I begin to question the "created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane" credit, and also questioning why I have spent all this effort on a CZcams comment no one is going read.
So, basically, comics have a long history of just copying what was popular, and just tweaking it, so it seems different. Such as The Green Arrow originally being a Batman clone, or SubMariner\Aquaman, Captain Marvel (Shazam)\Superman. Sixty-plus years ago, comics were mostly aimed at children, and kids don't see the join. Nowadays many readers are older, and we can see stuff like that and we have a "seen-it" reflex. I mean, how many millionaires-lawyers- playboys who fight crime from a secret hide-out, are there?

We know part of the cost were extensive reshoots, which makes you ponder a whole lot of questions about the various versions of the series, and that streaming shows pay more up front to the actors etc. in exchange for then no and now little profit participation, but that still doesn't sufficiently explain it. After all, good writing costs as much as bad writing, so there's no excuse, whereas good effects cost much more than bad effects, and it just looks so damn cheap.

Reshoots: This is what happens when you don't go in with a solid plan and stick to it. Disney and Marvel are notorious for just shooting a bunch of crap action sequences and say, "we'll drap a plot over it later" then reshooting and putting in ADR lines later to fix it.
Look at The Creator. It's VFX heavy and cost a fraction of a Marvel movie, but they had a plan and a story first, so they only had to shoot it once.

@@mage1439 It's my assumption based on past experiences. Brother Bear 2 for example replaced the main lead for Kenai because he was too expensive, and it was also a sequel, so his contract could've only included one film, or excluded sequels, especially direct-to-dvd, etc.
The actor who played as Rhodes in Iron Man 1 was replaced because he asked for pay that was higher then Marvel wanted, so replaced him with the actor we all know and love now.
So I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they did with Kung Fu Panda 4, but assumed they'd recieve backlash for replacing those higher paid actors completely, because it'd be very obvious, but it's one of those things now where their movie suffered because they excluded those characters completely.
Jack Black is excluded because (I believe) he co-produced the movie so of course he'd play in it.

So, I'm hoping the rumors are true that they are, in fact, working on a second film. Personally, I also enjoyed The Eternals as well. On release in theaters, I remember thinking that it was too broad...too many new characters and a whole new various threats that I felt like the other films' characters would DEFINITELY be aware of and mention. Like "Hey Cap, hear about that giant monster being sticking out of the ocean? Wonder what that was all about..." I mean, you know that Iron Man or Nick Fury could easily see that dude from space. Why wasn't THAT utilized as part of Fury's reasoning for his actions in Secret Wars. The presence of the world-ending Celestials would have been an eye-opening extreme threat to everyone, but it's only ever mentioned in the one film. I just feel like the past few years have left SO many missed opportunities on the table.

I'm going to focus exclusively on The Eternals.
For the film to do what it was trying to do, it needs to be taken back and retooled as a 10 episode mini series, each episode running roughly an hour.
Why? Because you have 10 main characters. At the film's current running time, that divides to 15 minutes per main character of dedicated screen time, to get to know everything that we need to know about this character, make some sort of connection to them, and know what the heck they want. Well, they would get that, if that was the only thing in the film. And there's the side characters and side plots, and an "even bigger picture" backstory, all competing for the running time's attention, and I haven't even included the main plot.
So, yeah. Expanding the running time to give each character, the rich history and context of everything the space to breathe. So much history and so many stories that would make later actions that much more sensible.
Don't tell. Show. Make the final actions taken by all parties mean even more... Make the audience understand.
    Just my 2 cents. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @westcoastavenger
      @westcoastavenger Před měsícem +2

Your idea makes sense but not cents. In Disney's eyes, the Eternals are a dead franchise. They can be tossed in a Fantastic Four or Guardians or Thor movie. But spending the type of money needed to bring Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Harry Styles! into short form Disney Plus where it's instantly a sunk cost/non-revenue generating (because Eternals won't drive Disney Plus subs) seems like another $200m down the drain.

Now, they have the writer's for about a week. They produce a rough draft and they're all let go. Any changes after that are on the director, who has their own pressures and is rushed.

But having the Eternals in their own sequel after the first one didn't work doesn't sound that appealing to me. The Black Knight could be worked into Blade, or more appealingly, a Midnight Sons movie. You already have Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Man Thing, Black Knight, Blade (by voice)... even Dr Strange. All you need is Ghost Rider... perfect villain for an introduction movie who can be redeemed down the line. They really just need to stream-line the non-essentials.

If the 10 Rings are from the same civilization as the Bangles, they need to be consistent. And the Bangles (& 10 Rings) work like Star Trek transporters, turning a 3D figure into 6D. Without it/them, changing dimensions causes a body to explode. As for Carol Danvers, it's the Kryptonian problem. You don't send her after an alien fleet, you send her after someone like Galactus. The MCU needs good writers (i.e. no more rick-and-morty castoffs), with the right experience with the characters and setting for their story (ahem, She-Hulk), and then a commitment to let those writers tell their stories without editing them within an inch of their lives (ahem, Marvels) full stop. Tao Lao had all the elements of a 'Heavenly City' so I'm hoping for a Tournament that introduces an Iron Fist and Shang Chi being revealed as an Immortal Weapon.

That last segment! 🙌🏽 funny enough Sydney Sweeney said something similar regarding creators being subbed over with execs.

There's no denying intersectional feminism. Had everything to do with the downfall of marvel. Let's not kid ourselves. Let's not lie to ourselves and the people. It was intersectional feminism, a branch of wokism

I honestly think secret invasion could be stretched over another season, and if done really well it could save it, secret invasion had so many great details they skipped, and a second season done by the right people could give us what we wanted, like another avenger is a skrull and actually make it interesting, it could come to a bigger confrontation as well

I think the Iron Man model is difficult. You need people you trust one another, the character, and the movie. Someone who will say "this character would never do that" plus someone to say "the character would definitely do that, but it doesn't work for this story, maybe later." The problem with cancelling projects is people might start to think there won't be a later and will try to do to much.

They need to hire writers and directors that are actual fans of the comics. Instead of people who hates the fans.

Eternals is a very underrated movie. Good science fiction, good characters, good action. Plus, it sets a LOT of the cosmic stories from the original MU.

    First always love the channel.
    My response/opinion.
    1. Product quality. The Marvel characters have a simple standard. Superpower heroes - mortal problems. Individual directors stop adhering to this and just made anything using the MCU characters.
    2. Zero integration of stories - the post credit scenes were like the 30s cliff hangers. You leave the theater wanting more. Now they're directionless epilogues with ZERO value.
    3. Forgetting that the story must appeal to thre audiences. The comic fan, the superhero film fan (they don't read the comics but love superheroes) and the film fan (the person who was a good film on the big screen).
    4. Key actor - RDJ is the MCU. Because of his acting skills he made us believe, then build other actors around the lead high caliber actor. Everyone like everyone are only stars because of RDJ performance/ drawn. What if they made another HIGH calibre actor the center point - and build from that actor.
    5. Rehire the Russo Brothers. Having directors that believe in the concept, respect the plot and actually care about the product and the fans would do a world of good.
    6. ZERO I MEAM ZERO cheap product.

Thank you, Colton, for stumbling across the nickname that those of us who work at Disney have used for Bob Chapek for years!
