They can’t do that to us - hopper is one of kind and el needs her dad

I think that he is still alive: Hear me out! SPOILERS!! I think he jumped into the portal at the end of season 3 and after the months passed the Russians managed to make a replica and found him, hence why at the post credit scene they say “no, not the American”.
The only problem with that is hopper jumped into the portal in America. In Russia yes the may create the portal there however the upside down entrance is in Russia. Either something went wrong with portal entrance or hopper found a way to get to the Russia portal entrance
While I do think that Hopper is alive and in the upside down.. I don't think that's him in the Russian cell. I think the person in the cell is a captured Dr Brenner.. We never actually saw him die in season 1... And it would explain how the Russians knew about Hawkins portal in the first place
