Iconic Japanese bike and congrats on your one which is beautiful.
Brings back lots of memories. I had a 77 XS650 til 1986 or so, Put over 60,000 miles on the original engine. Leaked quite a bit of oil at the end and compression was way down but always started up and ran reliably. I remember having to start it one day when it was 6 below the night before, Had to use BOTH the electric start and kickstarter at the same time to get it to crank, but if fired up and I rode it to work that day. Finally bought a new 4 cyl Yamaha in '86 and retired the old twin.
Vintage bikes are the best. Not only do some still get crazy looks and stories but no other bike do you get to fix yourself and give yourself the satisfaction of bringing something back to life again.
Great video and you have many more weird bikes to find. At least its become my illness lately. I'm on #4 for vintage bikes.
Since more than thirty years I'm a owner of a xs650. I had other bikes but sold all exept the xs650. It's somekind of a love I guess.
I know most here are saying they like the unmolested older bikes, as do I, but one cool mod for these bikes is rephasing. Yeah, it requires some internal work but the sound is amazing. Not saying a stock bike doesn't already sound amazing, no I'm not. But the sound of a rephased bike is also cool. Check out some videos on it and see for yourself. Not trying to force you to do anything (which I can't do anyways) but just thought you might like to hear what it sounds like. Sweet bike, Man!
Beautiful bike... if you can keep it that clean, keep it original.
When I was 18, (1978) I wanted a 650 in the WORST way. Other stuff came along... and now, I want an original 650 from 1975-1983. Been looking on eBay, time is getting close! It impresses me that someone so young would be interested in these basic, solid, and classic old bikes. And that one is not only clean, but just the right color!
these are great bikes. I have a 1982 xs650 (known at that point as the "Heritage Special") and like yours, it's bone stock. Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes to preserve the bikes and not turn them into art projects.
I had a 1978 Yamaha 650 Special. Great bikes!
Awesome. Just started rebuilding a 79 that has been sitting in the elements for 27 years. Lots of work ahead, but this is an inspiration.
My 1st 4 stroke bike. A beauty then and now.
I had a 77 650 , blue with gold pin stripes ! Electric start was a little off , bendix bad , it would start on 1st kick every time ! Those are great bikes !
This video is 15 years old but I still have her. Electronic ignition these days and it runs like champ!
I had a 72, the first year that had front disc brakes, I wished I’d never sold it ..!!
@ReconHHC I got the bike a couple of years ago it was sitting next to a tree in a guys front yard with a 400 dollar sign on it. It didn't run, took me about a day to clean out the rust in the tank and rework the carbs, but I got it running and road it for a good amount of time. I haven't changed anything about how it "looks" since i got it, except the bars. so I didnt buy a junk one nor restore it. This bike is in original from factory glamour. I did fight an electrical issue with it for quite
cool video. That model was my first bike years ago. cool to see one again.
my 77 650 starts the same every morning. One kick, no choke just open the throttle and jump on her. love it.
I had two of those. First one was a '78 and I sold it because I was moving and didn't ride it much. Then after a year, I found myself wanted to ride again, and bought a brand new '82. I absolutely loved that bike and eventually sold it when the three wheelers were gaining popularity and traded it for a new Honda three wheeler. And although I have two bikes I ride now (a '01 750 Shadow and '96 11100 shadow) I'm looking for a good used XS650 to play with. They are great bikes and I miss mine.
Yes I agree with you. The XS 650 was a really handsome bike. Hope you find one.
Nice museum piece you lucky SOB.
Back in the mid 80's I had the exact same bike. I put a Kerker on it. It sounded real sweet, I drove it everywhere. Took it to Canada a few times as well. the only thing that sucked was the dual points. They wouldn't keep their adjustment very long. I replaced the 650 with a 79 XS11. The Eleven was like a two wheeled locomotive. Now I wish I could come across another 75 650.
I saw a segment on Cafe Racer with Billy Joel's collection. He has the same '75 XS on display.
Thnks for the Vid
That bike looks like brand new! Very cool!
Nice bike. I had a 1981 XS-650 II Special, I lived that bike. Very torquey and reliable.
Beautiful bike. Good find. Enjoy!
Nice one, man. Good start.
great looking bike mate
Nice work, man! that's a sweet old ride.
Great Bike. I had one myself, not in that condition. I've been keeping my eye out for another one to pick up. Also had a '78 (in my videos). Now I just got a couple specials to chop up. I'll always have a soft spot for the standards though.
Beautiful XS. Just liked and subscribed ! Thanks!!
Please please keep it all original, its a fantastic bike.
This video was from 9 years ago, bike is still as it was here; only difference is the mirrors are gone now in favor of a bar end mirror on one side. I did get rid of the generator, dual coils and points for a Permanent Magnet Alternator, Single Coil and Electronic ignition a few years ago when the generator crapped out on me. But no changes to the aesthetics. :)
Awsome stock original sounds nice keep up the good work
dude, this is THE nicest bike i've ever seen. :O !!!
Sweet looking xs. Love the tank, exhaust and seat. I'd like to get one. But my plan is to make a street tracker with a Jemco exhaust and rebuilt suspension.
Beautiful bike!
Beautiful bike bud. I have one just like it but not in the same condition.
thanks, yeah i know its weird i like the vintage stuff as oppose to a bike that will get me killed at 170mph. dont get me wrong crotch rockets are cool, but i enjoy vintage more, it has history and character.
Oh man that is an awesome bike.
Dude don't know who you were proving wrong, but laughed my ass off. Sounds and looks great man good job.
when I made this video 9 years ago. There was a video of some guy repeatedly kicking one of these bikes and only getting like a half kick every time. I told him to tune the carbs better or learn how to kick the bike right. Then he told me that I didn't have one of these bikes and even if I did I couldn't kick it on one kick.
Then I made this video lol
Thanks! I love this bike; its a fun ride and it gets attention anytime I'm near an older biker who knows what it really is. thanks for the comment
@sawatzky4 I see you removed your comment, but yes you are correct the electric start came out in 72 but they also still came with a kickstarter until 81, if you look at the sidecover, it reads "OHC Electric" because this bike also has the electric start.
I agree, i got rid of the stock mirrors and went to a single low one on the right. made it look a whole lot better.
That's a stunning bike... Sell me it NOW!
that's a nice lookin bike! I have an 81' I'm fixing up
amazing bike dude.....i like that
This video is quite old. I still have the bike though :P
@@garrittpwl great dude 👍
No offence garrittpwl but you look a bit too young to enjoy those types of bikes but I'm wrong. It makes me happy that you do. It seems like you appreciate quality and you treat her well. Keep riding that beautiful bike. Ride safe.
@TL250Rider thanks, she's all apart in my garage right now, redoing the carbs and such over the winter
good onya ya BUddy...nice ride!!!
Nice bike. You told em.
@SPEIRMOR yes the bike has never had paint work or body work or engine work, all i have done to it is the electrical system, aka new coils, points, condenser, rectifier.
Well I guess you showed them!
Sweet bike, btw.
@garrittpwl Have you tried bike bandit for parts? They can get or have anything you would need.
im very sorry to hear you feel that way
@baileytom78 almost back together, i'm trying to find new carb holders for it, on this year the holders are a rubber hose kind of thing, one of mine has a slight crack and is causing my left cylinder to go lean, soon as i can find these and order them i will be back on it
thanks man! The side covers on the motor need to be polished up, but thats about it and it would be mint
i love xs 650
@SPEIRMOR
If I remember right this was the design for the European series of the XS and RD's.
This has aged well and set a precedent on startup procedure. Hoping you still breathe and still have that bike.
I still breathe! And she's still my baby! looks exactly the same as it did in this video(though i myself do not ahahah). Bike now has PAMCO electronic ignition and a hughes handbuilt alternator. Thanks for the nice comment!
this video had 12k miles. its nearing 25k miles these days. 😊
thanks! she does have a little bit of corosion i'm working on cleaning up on the crank case cover, but that will be clean soon enough
Do the world a favor and NEVER chop it..... seems to be the latest and greatest craze with the XS 650's.
Very clean stock please keep it that way.
Im only 18, but im thinking im gonna buy one of these this summer as my first bike... i want something classic that is a single seat rider that would be comfortable to cruise around in. Are these bikes comfortable? could u sit on it for 2hrs? and have they been known to develope any problems??
@gs400s thanks, I love my yami, everywhere I go it grabs someones attention.
vintage=only way to go
@lstn2leroy i just ran the wires outside of the bars. only thing i had to do was notch the switches with a bur grinder so that i could tighten them and not squish the wires.
@garrittpwl are you going to sale that bike?
@lstn2leroy I cable tied the wiring the new bars on the bottom side and then I order some new switches and used a bur grinder to notch the switches so they would clamp without crushing the wires.
@garrittpwl SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS? NO WAY!!!! I'm thinking in the 1800---2000 range. I have a 1982 kawasaki KZ 440 I got for free with 975 miles on it. It only had 2700 miles when that deer ran out in front of me....it's a little bent now.
Thats a great bike do you have it back togeather yet? Spring is right around the corner and it will be time to eat bugs and smile big. I ride a yzf600r myself.
I have the same bike except mine is has some mods that were done to it before I owned it. I'll post a vid of it if you would like. They are great bikes
@garrittpwl My 1977 is the same way, cold or hot! never lets me down, Ride safe!
Nice bike. How tall are you?
ive got 1 its brown all i need is a back tire and the electrical wiring the tires r odd sized btw nice bike dude
Yeh nice bike & even sweeter i figa u prooved to the smart ass u got one & u can start it 1 kick-look after it & what that last guy said keep it unmolested
@artfantasies this is the original paint on this bike, and as far as i know it's lived in the US it's whole life
@cyclistjimbo you dont have to have the mirrors, i just like to have them, mikexs sells some cool ones, ive thought about putting some of those on but i think ill just leave the stock ones on
Mine's a 75 as well. Back when it had 12k miles it probably started cold on the first kick too. Now at 50k it takes a few.
This video was 13 years ago lol. Mine is nearing 30 now and I don't kick it these days as I fixed the electric start years ago 🤣
Mines a first kicker every time when its cold. Even when it's been sitting for acouple weeks. Great bikes......what did the guy say that made you post this?
@barcusful how much would you pay?
Nice!
stock bars are gone so no worries, new bars have wires routed outside.
@CoolArhoni he most miles ive ever rode in one day is 250, thats about 2 tanks of gas, it would probably go farther on a tank i just dont like to risk it. and the fastest ive had mine to is 105, but its tached out there, im sure it would go faster with a gear change
Right on!
@ReconHHC (continued) for quite some time. it ended up being the resistor block below the gas tank, after I replaced the rectifier, coils, condenser, and points. One day though i do hope to buy another one, that is not so pretty and completely turn it into a cafe bike. One day.....
@Seraffyn Thanks, its my baby, yesterday i was on it and had a random guy insult me by telling me he had 3 of them and then offer me 600 dollars for it, I laughed and said "It's not for sale and never will be"
@AJ94Acura thanks!
@charger19691 thanks man, I love it!
Are you in the states or Ireland? If the states, I guess that beautiful bike will continue to enjoy the other side of the Atlantic
This video has been outdated with my newer one! please click on that bubble at 0:10
I pitty the fools who think this beautiful oldtimer should be turned into bobber.. terrible thing to do to this bike
nice to see a younger dude with an old UNMOLESTED bike. none of that cafe racer or bobber hacks and shit all over it. sweet bike take care of it.
@halosavage thanks!
What a beaut. What kind of handlebars are they?
this video is old now, but i still have the bike, the bars are club mans off of mikesxs.net
+garrittpwl Thanks for your very useful information. I am getting the same model next week. Wish me luck.
thanks!
what language is that?
With age comes problems. and as for comfort, stick with stock bars if thats what you want. I've road mine in some poker runs for 8 hours at a time. Not too bad.
try 650 central for parts if you havent so far
Dude im jealous
Did you ever do that video request??
What request?
Love your bike, but if your wearing a T-shirt, it's not THAT cold.. Just kidding!
I agree with the guys that say you don't have to prove anything to a wanker, but the way you do it is cool though..
XS-650's are great bikes!
Toi on aika lähellä, mitä sulla oli Ritva. No äänenvaimentimet eivät ainakaan olleet tuollaiset. Kiva silti muistella pyö...tai niin paremminkin neiti Kurkea :)
kick ass i have a 74 ohc650 and it will start on one kick too, kisk ass
@garrittpwl If you were to advertise it for that much, you would get it. nice bike
Dude.. You don't have to prove yourself to the jackasses that live on the internet. I'm glad you made the video though just to show what a stock bike sounds like.
