Defenders of Rings of Power say that Tolkien was deliberately misquoted by either "trolls" and "bots" (lmao I'm not kidding, The Gamer literally blames Russian bots in a 2022 article). But his actual quote carries the same meaning as the more commonly attributed one, but is perhaps more poetic:

@@Howardax The same thing was said several different ways in Tolkein's writings. "Evil cannot create, only destroy" is a shortened paraphrasing which people repeated without realizing it had been abbreviated.
I hate this "quote." Not only is it not what Tolkien said, when worded this way it's wrong and can be used to defend evil people. e.g. "Evil cannot create; Saruman created many Uruk-hai; therefore, Saruman is not evil."

This trailer is for generic fantasy show, like 5 or 6 out of ten. The show itself is 4 or 5.
What makes it so bad is that Tolkien books and the trilogy are 9 or 10 out of 10 so the Amazon's show looks very, very bad.

Fan fiction is a labor of love from a fan who enjoyed the product they are writing fiction about, it might be good it might not but it will have a passionate soul imbued into the final product and that will shine through.
The contrary is true as well, a product made with a soul of self aggrandizement will come off as pretentious and full of itself.

@@SarthorS Honestly, if you think that this portrayal of Galadriel isn't accurate to her second age portrayal by Tolkien himself, you really haven't studied his work at all. She was literally written by him to be Guyladriel and Girlbarian. She was a young, brash, military leader who made a lot of mistakes. To be fair, Tolkien never meant to publish any of it, so there are multiple versions and stories of Galadriel written that all oppose and retcon each other, but this was at least one of his throughts for the character.

Only one scene with very few lines shows power of the one ring, bilbos internal struggle and capability to resist the ring when he manages to drop it. Correction, it heavily influenced Dungeons and Dragons. Lot of DnD was basically bale to just draw a line to fantasy writers, and a lot of the OG wow team were/are DND nerds. There's a reason paladin is how it is.
@@deathwrow9652 I have been reading fantasy for decades. From the time when there were not many fantasy authors around. Tolkein was a major influence on most of them, either directly or indirectly. Also, the OG WoW team drew a great deal of influence from EverQuest, in which Paladins are a class. Which of course, got their influence from AD&D. There were no Paladins in D&D.
Tolkien, Moorcock, Howard. Really Classic fantasy was kinda rare until the 40’s/50’s. It was really Sci Fi that dominated the first half of the 20th century.
