- Here is some information about vintage Delta Bicycle lights and horns from 1940s and 50s. These were common on Schwinn, Hawthorne, JC Higgins, Monarks and Roadmasters. Delta Electric Company was in Marion Indiana.

I can't thank you enough for this video. I personally couldn't find anything at all relating to this video. Priceless. Thanks again. You are the man. Very informative
Hi John, Thanks you for watching and Thanks so much for the compliment. It’s so rewarding to receive feedback like this! Get out and ride them old bikes!
Thank you
Thanks i needed this info👌
Great video!!!!
Nice video thanks
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have a 1949 Monark Super Deluxe with a horn that isn't working...yet! ;-) very inspirational video!
I was waiting for you to explain the make and break electromagnetic principle that causes the clapper to make the noise and how the adjustment screw interacts with the action of the clapper. I installed a bike horn in a model boat, makes a convincing horn sound
Thanks for contributing Gary! Good points.
great source of information. I'll be taking mine apart now that was mounted on a 1959 Schwinn Breeze.
Thanks man !! 👍😎👍
Hi Nevin, I am writing because i am stumped in working with my horn installation that has a push button to actuate the horn. The bike I'm working on is a Murray Stratoflite girls bike, guessing 1962 vintage. Inside its tank is a 2-D battery pack , headlight with a working on/off switch, and a horn that operates with a push button switch. I purchased a new 1.5 volt horn on ebay and it works great, that is until I try to install it in the tank. If the back screw is the ground, then where do I put the lead from the back of the horn that puts the horn on one side of the push switch so that, when I push the button, I complete a circuit and the horn works? Everything I am doing now how the horn working all the time? - I can provide photos as needed this has got to be easy. I am totally stumped!
Thanks for your attention
Hi Stan, I will need some photos. I will need to see the new horn, the button, and the battery tray. I will try and help you if I can. You can email me at flyboyartist@rocketmail.com
Hello! This information has been very useful as I have recently purchased a bike that contains a horn very similar to the horn shown at 9:34, I was checking the light that came along with the bike and found the horn inside, not connected to anything, alongside the button that would turn it on. As I was redoing the wiring for the light since it didn't work I was wondering if you could show how to wire that horn. I'm quite confused as the horn doesn't had 2 wires to finish the circuit like the one show in the video. Thank you!
Eduardo Rodriguez, Hello, Yes, the horn has one wire. Note the horn laying face down on the table. The one wire on the horn is the positive side, and the screw in the center at the rear of the horn is the negative or ground. Usually the ground screw is also the mounting screw. Likely yours is mounted to the light using that rear screw and also acting as the ground. The wires I use in the video are pigtail wires I made and they have alligator clips on each end. Notice when I demonstrate the horn working, I touch the wire to that rear screw. I sincerely hope My information helps you get it working. Best wishes, Nevin
Can you please tell me why my 2 cell battery horn is t working? I took it apart and cleaned everything, also took the switch apart and cleaned and also cleaned the battery holder and still no sound
I have a 1963 Sears/J.C. Higgins Flightliner. I rewired the dual head lamps & horn. Two D cell batteries side by side in the head lamp bracket and two wire clips for the on/off switch. How do I connect the buzzer horn into the loop? It worked on a single power wire without a ground. The lights work.
Update. I had the horn working yesterday. Today nothing at all. Any advice please?
puntagordy Hello, is it the horn that came with the bike? The two D batteries equal three volts (each cell is 1.5 volts). Some horns will have a 6V (6 volts) stamped on them. They would require four batteries. Or, since you had it working yesterday, double check your connections. Thanks
@@weekendplowboy Original horn marked 1.5
puntagordy 1.5 is likely the voltage. This means the horn should work with just one battery.
I get sound out of my 1963 Delta but when I put the cover on will not work any advice you have would be appreciated thank you so much for your video sincerely Dan
dan garrity Is there anything creating a short when you put it together? Be sure everything is centered when you reassemble. If you continue to have a problem, do throw the good coil away. Watch for parts at the swap meets and flee markets. Thanks for watching.
Hi I bought an old Norwood Custom bike that has a horn on it that I was trying to fix. It doesnt make any noise when I have a battery hooked up to it and I tested the switch and the switch works. I'm thinking it has to do with the coil itself and I was wondering if it's possible to fix? Thanks
Calvin Kreuter, Not sure about the coil. I've had a couple of them that seemed to be dead and I could not get them to work. Thanks for watching and commenting. Nevin
Calvin Kreuter be sure to use the correct voltage. I have not had any luck with repairing a bad coil. Watch for parts at the flee markets and Antique shops.
I recently took apart an old delta horn to fix it and after cleaning the inside I hooked a battery up to it I got a great buzzing sound for 5 seconds and now I can't get it to work again and I tested to see if there is a connection and I have a positive connection read but the horn still won't work for some reason. Do you have any idea on what the problem could be?
Brandon, It's likely a bad coil. I have not attempted to repair the coils. When I have one that don't work, I scrap it. Sorry I don't have a better answer. Thanks watching.
Hi Nevin,
I have a Delta Horn on my 1953 Schwinn Panther. Im having an issue with it where I have to press the button several times and eventually it works on and off. Do you know what the issue would be? Hope to hear from you soon Thanks
If the horn works sometimes after pressing the button several times, I would say you are having contact problems within the switch. I have taken them apart and cleaned the inside of the switch. This may fix your problem.
@@weekendplowboy Do you have a video or can you tell me how to take it apart and what to clean it with . I would hate damage it. Thanks again Nevin
Hi Nevin I took the Horn apart and cleaned it with WD40 however the wire by the switch came of or broke and also I plug it to my multimeter to the horn and it’s making a very low noise. It was working before on and off before I took it apart. If you’re up for it maybe you can get it to work again. I can ship it to you? Let me know what you’ll charge. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks again
