This is exactly my husband with my parents! Or, rather, this is how it started. It escalated to my husband sneaking his card under the table… and then my father came up with the “I’m going to use the bathroom” (but secretly pay instead) trick. And then we moved out of state. But that hasn’t stopped the hubby, no…
He saw my parents post on Facebook that they were eating at their favorite restaurant, so he called and paid the bill remotely over the phone. To say they were surprised would be an understatement. The war continues. Not sure how Dad is going to top that one.

The others would whine, beg, show off their platinum cards, it didn't matter. My mother and I would just sit there and finish our desert.

She tries to reimburse me for the rental car and fuel when we visit. It took a long time to get her to stop sending the checks for between $100 and $300 for birthdays and Christmas. I had a hard time getting her to understand that I'm a home owning (like we don't even owe on it) grown up. I still caught her sneaking a couple of $100 bills into my purse the last visit. Talia’s 10# key ring is no joke! My mom had the same thing except it was the 80’s so there were 100 keys (half which didn’t open anything we could identify) and a huge key fob with our name on it. Good times…

She will have been gone 5 years in September and Grandpa passed seven years ago in a few days, and they are still greatly missed.

I expected Talia to say she used an app to pay the bill, or that she had her "son" do it. come to think of it, so many places have those tabletop kiosks to pay that you don't really need a waitress to bring a real check anymore...

My brother-in-law has mastered the art of sliding a credit card over to the waiter while the rest of us are arguing over who pays. Part of me thinks it's sweet while the other part of me is sure it's just because I'm the baby of the family by a number of years and nobody thinks I'm capable of paying for a meal, even though I'm well past the half-century mark in my life and make a decent wage.
On the other hand, I have two friends who make 3-4 times as much as I do and nothing to spend their extra cash on. I'm actually a little offended when we go out to a nice restaurant and one of them DOESN"T offer to pay for my meal.

I swear this actually happened: I was at Thanksgiving with my uncle, aunt, and their grown children. My uncle is notorious about paying the whole tab. I negotiated in advance with the waiter to just take mine off, thinking my uncle would still get a check and probably wouldn't notice a meal was not on the check. The waiter handed my credit card back to me in front of my uncle. My uncle made a big scene and wasn't happy until the waiter refunded my money and put it on his check. I shot daggers at the server with my eyes. lol Here is the kicker. My uncle then got the check and started complaining the the bill was too high. He wanted to make sure the waiter gave him a senior citizens discount. I wonder if that server learned to be more covert in the future.
