Ford was a little late to produce a mid-size SUV when it launched the original Kuga in 2008. However, over 45,000 have since found homes in the UK, proving that the Kuga's blend of stylish looks, economical engines and sporty drive was more than enough to lure drivers from the Volkswagen Tiguans and Honda CR-Vs. This time around, rather than just being sold in Europe, the Kuga is one of Ford's global cars to be marketed in over 100 countries, so it has to meet the differing demands of many more drivers, while not compromising what made the Kuga a success in the first place.
'Avoid automatic gearboxes'? I've driven a Kuga 2 litre diesel automatic transmission all weekend, and it was delightful as we gobbled up the miles around Scotland. Such glib statements sadly detract from the credibility of the presenter. The Kuga drove beautifully...such a grown up package.
I just wanted to thank you, Rebecca and Mat , for doing such nice and interesting reviews. I've been a car fan since I was a kid ( I could recognise makes and ranges by then)I love the fact I can check every current car model interior out without visiting any car shops or stuff thanks to you. Not a very good review really. Closing lines were "AVOID the automatic model, because Ford automatic gearboxes aren't as good as Volkswagen". On that same logic, should we avoid any vehicle that doesn't have an engine as good as an AMG, or doesn't handle as well as a Ferrari on a track?
This vehicle can climb wet dirt hill better than an Amarok or Tiguan with auto. Automatic gearbox doesn't have any issues and it is very comfortable in city driving. Plus I don't know if she used 1.6 AWD model or not, because it's really, REALLY sporty and sounds beautiful. I don't get why she said that.
Had my kuga for 6 months now and been a great car and I have the powerShift auto and it is a great gearbox.

@@garry_potta I had the car for a year as the gearbox was to slow pulling out at junction and roundabouts was dangerous
Dual clutch was fualty but the plantar 6 speed auto was good correct me if im wrong ? @@garry_potta
I agree - odd thing to say! I also don't find Ford's auto 'boxes to be poor in any case. Even the previous generation Focus 1.6 auto is relatively nice and smooth. I'm sure the Powershift on the 2.0 diesel is quite lovely.
Car critics just can't resist comparing everything to VW. They might be very well made, but I would personally go for a Ford or Vauxhall long before I went for a VW.
The kuga looks soo big next to her, it's like she's reviewing the Cadillac Escalade.
I like this but I love the Freelander 2!

Great review but some glaring mistakes. The Kuga is a far better drive than the Mazda CX-5. Also the automatic transmission in the petrol is different to the diesel and having driven one is not as poor as the lazy motoring press would have you believe.
Today my new Kuga is built. In a few weeks I'll see if Miss Five-foot-four-and-a-half is right with all she states here ;)

Neo Putu Yes, I do. First of all the "cluttering of buttons" isn't that bad. Most of the settings are done while not driving. When driving you can do all the important stuff by using the controls on the steering wheel or by voice command. It works pretty well. And yes, the Kuga might not be that sporty on the road, but it moves soft and smooth, which is a pleasure especially during long journeys. You'll also appreciate that when you go offroad. Even on rougher terrain you almost feel like floating on a cloud. That's what I like best. The other day we had heavy snow here, and the Kuga (I bought mine with 4WD), walked through the snow like a tank, passing by some stuck VW's and BMW's. A Nissan Terrano has had slightly more trouble. I'm absolutely happy with this car.

My mom has a mondeo. I have to say its a good car, my dad doesnt think so, thats why he has a C class but anyway. The Kuga is one of the best SUVs out there, its better than the X3
Brillant review.
I usually like piano black on the center console, but unfortunately I'm not a fan of Ford's new interior design language. I really dislike the whole look, and that explosion of tiny, thin buttons isn't helping.
The Kuga is the best small crossover, yes, I'd buy one over anything else in the segment. As I have said, the Kuga isn't the only one that gets poor for safety in that test. Although, in the test the driver would have only had a broken leg, it got a poor rating. Yes I do have a Mondeo. It's a lovely car. :)
Previous model of Kuga has much more attractive and Coupe stylish design than this one but still this is the best crossover out there.

Firstly she is speaking clearly so everyone can understand, Secondly it's called a Kuga because that's what called and lastly because we in the UK (and some other parts of the world) drive on the left hand side.
Both Imperial or Metric are acceptable, so use whatever you like. We buy fuel in litres but usually measure consumption in miles per gallon. Oh, and Imperial gallons are different to US gallons. None of it is very logical, but quite good for mental agility!

It's interesting in that it's considered a mid-sized CUV where in the US, it's in the compact category.
About time the Kuga and Escape be the same model.

Vicki Butler Henderson is the best I think..Its just she is only on Fifth Gear. But Vicki has a lot more enthusiasm & reviews a bigger range of vehicles from supercars to normal ones.
Rebecca is very good but Vicki is better.

I like to have new Kuga, it comes with automatic parking signals instructions and safety, it does it all by itself , you do not even have to touch the steering wheel, it has best motor good for long journeys'

Cluster/clutter of buttons. So you can operate any smartphone with menus/submenus but can't operate any stereo that has buttons for "phone", "memory", "media", "sat-nav". You ...need an extra passenger for that. Right...Anyway. Good car, more serious looking and bigger than the previous one but some potential buyers wanted that (well especially the bigger boot. I prefered the older one's looks).
If ford's one car (globally with minor changes) allows for good value then hats off to them.

is this the same as the escape in the us?
Why do the reviewers always go on about the buttons on a cars console?
I mean it's not like the driver has to use them as all the same controls work on the steering wheel but without them what would a passenger use to skip song or change station?
I prefer there to be somthing on the console instead of a huge expanse of empty plastic.That would make things feel just a bit spartan.

I have the MFT in a Focus and it's really not a big deal. It is about like using an android phone, and I prefer features over reliability.

In the USA this is called the Ford Escape, my Mom has it. And WOW is this weird because in the front everything is backwards, but she has the Titanium so it has the MyFord Touch.

No they are not standard on that model, you have to order the convenience pack, or opt to buy the titanium X Sport where it is standard.

One thing I don't get why is it that UK models of fords don't get ford (my-touch) interface....if anyone watched the show catfish they hired one ford kuga the intereface/Center console was fords new technology the ford my-touch...come on ford in UK bring us this technology

Honestly that can´t come as a surprise to anybody - The US has always been about bigger is better concept, which in contrary never have appealed to either Europe or Asia. But even for that you also have consider the different measurement standards.

I prefer the look of the outgoing model. This one just looks like all the other Ford family wagons, such as the C-Max.

I like the BMW 2002's better than some of the newer models.
Ford 'durashift' torque converter auto is on the 1.6. (BAD). The 2.0 gets 'powershift', which is the double clutch auto. (GOOD)

Why do you say that previous generations of Ford models are better than their current versions? Take for example the Fusion/Mondeo, I can't think of a single category where its predecessor was better.

there is only one reason to by a ford kuga with intelligent 4x4 - for towing a caravan you can't beat it, when the caravan is parked up you then get amazing mpg for a 4x4. for any other reason, get something else
