    Howie Long said it best. When he went to AT&T Stadium to conduct interviews, he described it as a Carnival or a Festival scene. When he went to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro to conduct interviews a couple of years ago, you could hear a pin drop in the hallways. It was all about Football and nothing else throughout Gillette Stadium. "That's the best way I can describe it about the Cowboys problem" said Howie.

      Well that's partly true. But just understand Jimmy Johnson was one most innovative coaches the NFL has seen. His thinking on smart, fast, and tough players change the game of football. But if you look at what Jerry Jones hasn't taken a chance on hiring a young innovative coach. That is why I was surprised when the Miami Dolphins hired head coach Mike McDaniel. He turned Tua Tagovailoa into the league leading passer.

    Steve Young is totally right, and this is a Cowboys fan saying it. Steve Young's 49ers faced the last Cowboys teams that were fully committed to winning and doing ALL that entails. Jerry Jones, while well intentioned, is not capable of admitting he is the problem and stepping back...and if he hasn't done it for 30 years, there's only one thing that will pry the team from his clutches...and then we have to look forward to the apple that probably won't fall far from the tree.

      @brettwheeler7753 Před 4 měsíci +2

      What most Cowboys fans don't realize is the incredible head start that Jimmy had when he became the HC. Michael Irvin was already on the team, they had three Pro Bowl players on the OL, Troy Aikman was dropped into their lap, and there were Pro Bowl players on defense.
      BUT, the thing that really turned the tide was Herschel Walker who turned into 11 draft picks. Johnson knew talent, Jones doesn't. In 35 years, Dak Prescott is the only QB that Jones drafted that could stick on an NFL roster.

      @K707OR30 Před 4 měsíci +8

      It’s a great point. And Steve would know, he played against the last version of the Cowboys that were deserving of the star. It’s the difference between Dallas and the rest of the league. Take the Niners for instance. They’re currently better statistically in many ways than the legendary Niner teams of the 80s and 90s, but my feeling is none of the current roster would dare have the audacity to rank themselves among those 80s and 90s rosters - they’re too humble. Until they win a few more Lombardis, don’t even think about going there. Dallas on the other hand seems to have no problem riding the coattails of the Aikman/Smith/Irvin/Johnson Cowboys teams while not performing anywhere near the level of those teams because they all wear the star so that makes them equal or something? I’ll never understand it.

    • @dwmichaels
      @dwmichaels Před 4 měsíci +3

      Jason Garrett implemented this is training camp. You had to earn your star. Obviously, it didn't go through to the full season. Everything I hear from inside the organization counters what those outside the organization say about Jerry, so I feel that perception could be wrong (Jerry doesn't dictate everything - it's a joint venture with coaches, Will, Stephen & Jerry). Everything else, sure feels right though. From the roller coaster years under Garrett to the season success of McCarthy and abject failure in the playoffs of McCarthy, something is really wrong with the organization.

Players believe they are stars just because they have been drafted or have played for the cowboys. I agree with everything he says. In addition, they get paid way to much without having to earn it. They get paid upfront and the results don't matter. payment upfront has already been received.

He beat two elite quarterbacks in his playoff record career, Russell Wilson, whom I respect very much and Tom Brady, whom we know as the GOAT. Exactly what I've been saying for years and years. Even during the Campo years they acted as if they were already champions and they SUCKED! But because of their heritage they believed they were entitled to the Division Title, getting to the Conference Title Game, and being crowned as Super Bowl Champs without the sweat, the tears, the blood. No determination, no fortitude, no heart. And it's gonna stay that way until Jerrah passes on or his son kicks him out and gets some people who have the authority to do what needs to be done to win.

    Steve Young you are 100%%%%% correct. Take the stars off until they win playoff games and you don't get two stars until you get to championship game. Excellent idea

    50 year Cowboys fan. Also a Steve Young fan. He's not 100% spot on, but close. There's always going to be a percentage of joy he takes from the Cowboys' struggles given his history. But, it does come down to attitude and last weekend was the first time I really felt the team was shocked that an opposing team rolled into Dallas for a post season game without the appropriate awe and respect for the star. There seemed to be a reaction stemming from a certain sense of entitlement or at least expectation that they were so much better than GB..
    Jimmy walked because Jerry Jones infringed on the sanctity of his locker room by bringing Bandar in during his post-game speech. It basically took one incident to end a dynasty. History has proven Jimmy was right and the team will never win another championship until ownership or control of the locker room changes. Watching the rest of the league perform over the weekend, you could see how badly most wanted to win by their effort ... except the Eagles, from which I take some solace.

    Best analogy of the Cowboys I`ve heard. I was sucked back in after 25 years of not giving 2 shits if they won or lost. I watched every Superbowl Dallas every played and thought this might be the year. I feel like my guts have been yanked from my soul and stomped on after the Green Bay game. .

    The NFL would never allow the Boys to start the season without stars on their helmet, however when Bill Parcell was coaching them, in training camp all the rookies and first year guys did wear helmets without the stars on them in camp .Parcels said that they had to earn the stars.

    "the rest of the league doesn't care' That's an understatement . The eagles played like they feel they don't belong in the playoffs . they looked beat before that game even started

    He is spot on!!!!! No coach since Jimmy has been empowered. Jerry has been playing with his team and thinking that just because they are the Cowboys and have a rich history that they are special. Jerry has an entitlement problem. He's a good owner marketing his team, and has drafted fairly well...but HE is the problem. He's in the way and always will be so until that changes, us Cowboy fans can expect the same outcome season after season.

    I don’t buy into the Jerry jones excuse. I DO believe in the players thinking all they have to do is show up and they will win.
    10 or so years ago it was Romo telling the reporters, “look, this team will be in the Super Bowl” like just because they’re the cowboys?.. or now McCarthy saying they expect to win….why?.? The packers didn’t expect to win. They knew it would take every single one of them giving their absolute best effort to win.
