And let's face it. If USC is unbeaten, it's getting in. OSU (like Alabama in the past) has been head and shoulders above opponents in the past and lost. You just need a few bad bounces and deflections. Even with Saban, they all tend to coach all puckered up until they get a comfy lead when facing each other. And if those 4 teams DID go unbeaten, TCU is likely the first one out if Clemson does the same. And it would be unfair in my opinion because its resume would be better than at least USC's. @@ShortNinjaa Yeah. Don't engage in that small-timer talk. When the rankings come in on Sunday, TCU will likely have wins over one team in the teens (OkSU), and one that's either at the bottom of the rankings or out of them (Kansas). I've been in the media in major D1 and major league markets for decades. No one takes seriously the "ranked" team someone beats in Week 2 that ends up having to buy tickets to get in a bowl game. Don't allow yourself to be lured in by the beats the broadcast guys give you year after year. I won't say there's no such thing as a "quality loss," and things like that, but they're so far down the totem pole as far as tie-breakers that they might as well be treated as not being considerations. We can be critical of Alabama's performances (that weak secondary and sloppy ball control will likely earn them a second loss when they face Ole Miss), but voters haven't really been watching TCU games. Today might be a first and it was a no-defense game it won by a field goal. Or, as voters think of it, a "typical B12 game." Those people will also look at the two previous games that might have been lop-sided on the field, but still ended as one-score wins over SMU and Kansas. That said, TCU relatively has a better resume than others up there. I think the B12 is likely the 3rd and possibly 2nd-best conference. None of it really matters if TCU takes care of business. I've got them likely coming in at No. 9 after Alabama at No. 8. I think TCU will pass UCLA. That's if USC and Clemson finish tonight. It's possible that TCU will be one spot ahead of Alabama, mainly because Alabama still likely has a path to the playoff if it wins out, and they can afford to appear more ... fair(?) ... if they drop Bama a little more. Take care.
@@cobbler88 bro chillax all I’m saying was that every decent team bama played they had a point where they struggled. @@ShortNinjaa And I simply grabbed the points of argument and placed them in the real-world context based on my decades in the media working with people who vote in these polls and who have interacted with people on the selection committee at various times. Beating a few ranked teams by mid-October is meaningless. So much so that one season I even worked out a scenario in which a team could defeat 12 ranked teams throughout the season, none of which were still ranked when the season ended. I think it was a season in which USC opened up at No. 1 or 2, then fell flat and was unranked a few weeks later. And when these teams include Kansas - which is a good story but not exactly a blue blood program - and an OkSU program that steps on a rake every season it has a good start, that diminishes the rack upon which a program tries to hang its hat as well. Put more simply, if you're not ranked after the conference title games, you are not considered as a ranked opponent that this or that team can use to enhance its resume. Hell, a couple of weeks ago, Kansas wasn't even ranked. Had a team beaten them a the end of September - and had Kansas gone on an October run that put them in the top 25 (formerly the top 20) , should that team get to claim it beat a ranked opponent? This thing works both ways. It's not all bad. Take care.
It's wild just how good the Big 12 is this year. Except for OU, who just finally had a decent game. Gonna be a slugfest for the conference championship. Not having my Sooners in the running has honestly made watching all of these other games more enjoyable.

It seems weird seeing a ref gesture as he's explaining a ruling. I wonder if there's some official guidance that says they're supposed to keep their hands to the side or at least idle while speaking to the crowd?
No higher than 10th, probably. Not enough teams will lose ahead of them AND drop far enough. Bama won't drop any lower than where Tennessee was, if that far.
I'm guessing 9th. Alabama won't fall behind TCU and Ole Miss will stay ahead but I think TCU will leapfrog UCLA. They were close in the points and TCU had the big win while UCLA was idle. The fun part, nationally, is ranking Michigan/Clemson/Tennessee in the 3-5 spots. That's if things hold and USC and Clemson both win.
@@shawnheidingsfelder8179 I'm thinking Alabama will drop to No. 8. It's been showing how flawed it is fairly regularly this season, and USC and Ole Miss are good enough unbeatens (if USC wins) - and the points are so close that they should come in ahead of Alabama. But let's be really honest here. The main reason they can afford to drop Alabama to No. 8 is because it still may have a pathway to the playoff by winning out. Just like it's not important where TCU is tomorrow, because if it takes care of business it's in, unless we finish with 5, P5 unbeatens.
This is O State every year, they first five games is easy so they don't expect their opponents are undefeated or anything. but here's the point: O State thinks that their schedule is very very easy, so they don't try hard like their supposed to do, like they did in this game. They went in overtime against TCU and not try hard, and end up losing to a field goal. I'm an OU fan and it's the same thing with OU. They don't try hard enough and they already lost 3/7 this season. I don't expect them to lose that many games in 1 season. They average loses in a season is at usually 2.
It's going to be close, but I think the nod will likely have Alabama at No. 8 ahead of TCU at No. 9. BUT ... the voters can afford to drop Alabama an extra spot as well because it still likely has a path to the playoff if it wins out, so whether it's at 8 or 9 is irrelevant. I think TCU leapfrogs an idle UCLA. And it's in the playoff if it takes care of business so who really cares right now? I think the interesting thing will be what they do with 3-5. It's going to be among Clemson, Michigan and Tennessee, but who knows what order? The points were really close going into the slate. Penn State was pounded, but there wasn't really much credence in them going into the weekend. Tennessee had the biggest win but was the lowest on the ladder. Clemson looks like it's going to cruise to a win over a quickly diminishing FSU team. I would probably put it Tennessee/Michigan/Clemson. And like it or not, USC is making a bit of a claim as being a really good team. Better than our "default best P12 teams" of the past. Enough to be ahead of Alabama in this coming poll. I think the other person who replied overlooked Ole Miss in his ranking as well. They'll be ahead of TCU and Alabama. Take care.
