Davis had faced several charges after he and his girlfriend allegedly got into a verbal dispute at a New York hotel on Oct. 27. The District Attorney's Office confirmed in an email to The Canadian Press that five charges had been dismissed. The judge granted an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal (Family ACD) on two counts: endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief. NBA is a public-facing organization so they can't just sweep stuff like this under the rug like some companies can do behind closed doors. @illDefine1 Před 14 dny +2

Seriously this is the most inconceivably ridiculous statement I've ever heard. You clearly don't know what a gambling addiction looks like. Jontay was not losing money, he was gaining money on bets he knew 100% would come true. These are not the normal attributes of addicted thrill-seekers. That's just pure dishonesty from a straight up CON ARTIST. Rehab won't do anything to curb his behavior. In reality, what he needs is jail time.
Stop portraying this man as a victim. There are clearly hundreds of players more deserving of his spot in the nba who would be unbelievably grateful with the 2mil+ he's made in 3 years in the nba.

Its crazy because as a fan, you cant watch sports or even sports coverage without a sports betting ad. How do you keep young players who grow up in this environment from gambling when it is so normalized in society? As a player this is a bad thing. so now he's not a player, is he just a savvy betting dude now? Like how bad is this really? I think not calling carrying the ball or travels are more detrimental but I see the slippery slope here and Silver is trying to maintain the image that this sport hasnt been in bed with bookies for decades.
I have a strong suspicion that Jontay is not the only one, I guarantee he learned this from someone and players on the low are doing similar. players, refs... trainers lol.. they are all probably betting, they just arent throwing games like that, and doing it twice in a span that will bring notice.

The NBA (and most sports leagues these days) are owned by sports betters and I'm sure these betters were pissed that they had to pay out over $1-million on a $80,000 bet. This is why the NBA investigated Jontay Porter and cracked down on him.
Sports betters have a heavy presence in the league and its policies: it's been argued that the new player participation/load management policy is to ensure that star players play to protect sports betting odds. Is it a coincidence that the inaugural in-season tournament was held in Vegas?!?
Like all things in our modern world, if you want to seek the truth, follow the money!

This is just stupidity on Jontay Porter in every direction you look at it. He is not a potential superstar or even considered an impact player, but he is talented enough to stay in the league as a role player off the bench making anywhere between 3-5M a season. He is in his early 20s and can certainly stick around the league for 10+ years and make up to maybe 30-50M in his career. To throw all that away over a few hundred thousand dollars is just simply stupid. I can't even feel sorry for the guy because he did it to himself. The rest of us here don't have his talent and are earning average salaries are thinking "what a pity."

Sport books and the stock market are for suckers. The rich guys who have the power to manipulate the market or the players such as CEOs, politicians, the ultra wealthy are the only ones allowed to make money. Everything is set up so the uninformed little guy loses. Gambling is an addiction like anything else and those vultures prey on them. I had a roommate/friend that seemed to have a knack for playing the stock market. I was told that his portfolio was up to 1.4 million. Something very suspicious happened and his stock(s) dropped off a cliff. By the time he was realized that he had been "pumped and dumped" he had all but $75000 to his name, which put him in a deep depreciation and he ended up hanging himself. This all happened about 15 years ago. Life simply isn't fair.
