Recorded live from the Australian variety television program "Hey Hey It's Saturday". Digitised from a (very) old VHS tape. Apologies for the poor quality.
@@zachsmith1731 Yeah. I heard he had an accident and smacked his nose on Carl’s guitar and had to have have a procedure done to it to fix it which changed his tone and made him have to relearn how to sing.
One of my favorite songs ever. I met these guys back in Harrisburg in the 90s at Wanda’s on the Carlisle pike lol what a drunken crazy night. Drank a few with Brett and he bummed a smoke or two that I was very happy to give him. Fun times!
@@ThirdCoastNative it's always the same story when bands have no money they get along just fine. A little money some fame all of a sudden a deep hatred develops.
Carl Bell not only shreds that fucking guitar (not here, cause the song doesn't call for it) but he slays songwriting. Like his brain was crafted by the greatest song writers of the past. Every song he writes is a hit
@@thearchiv15t it is! i love listening to this song eversince i was a kid, thanks so much! it brings a lot of memories. specially live brett is so amazing!
Always hated that this song doesn't really have a guitar solo or even a long one...but it still jams...just the change in music from the 80's to the 90s and the 2000s...once grunge came about, a lot of guitar solos fade away and it takes away from bands sound...
People say this a lot but it's not really the case. Setting aside the fact that "grunge" isn't really a genre, guy just a scene or point in time, rather, we still see a lot of solos from the bands usually called "grunge" particularly Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains. The wankery of the 80s was gone but there's still a lot of solos in the 90s.
Might be sacrilege, but I'd like to hear how Brett and the gang would do with some really standout backing vocals? Obviously, Brett's voice is awesome. I just feel like man, if he had a dude shaking a tamborine or something and doing some killer backing stuff, it'd be even better. I know Carl backed him a bunch normally, but he was pretty so-so if I'm being honest. Maybe it's just personal preference. I always thought Everclear had a similar problem at times too. (I guess a female might be cool too, but you'd have to watch out that you don't start sounding like Evanescence, or some such.). Anyway, still fantastic!
Nah, I’ve tried to find info about it online, but no dice, I’m afraid. If I recall correctly when I recorded it, the tour Fuel were on wasn’t for “Sunburn”. Shimmer definitely wasn’t the current single at the time. This could have been on their 2000 tour?
@@thearchiv15t you sure about that? From the ending, I would put this around early to mid 1999. Promoting the sunburn album, and I would assume the 40 weeks on aus charts is referring to "shimmer" which came out about that time the year before. "Sunburn" (song) released as a single in May 99 so I'd assume it would probably be around then. Just a guess though!
@@austin918 Yeah I reckon your chronology sounds about right to me. I had a bit f a hunt around online, to try to find out the air date, but there's not much out there that helps, as far as I can see...
He sounds so good live
@Mike Smith probably after he fucked up his voice
You should watch the “best live version” it’s actually pretty good

Sounds like he's straining his voice a lot here

Great memory to have 🤘🤘🤘🤘
He does have a "smoker's voice"... but it works!
They killed it Brett sounded great Carl was killing it. Too bad they aren't together they produce magic.
Carls ego is to blame

It was the mid 90s. You had a Gibson guy. You has a Fender guy. Everyone had a huge necklace.
Absolutely dead on.
He is a great live singer.
Sunburn was such a definitive album from those days. Miss that time. Thanks for posting
The low quality sound just adds a lot to this performance and suits perfectly his raspy voice
I love this band.. very underrated
Such a great band!!! Dang I miss these bands! Great times and great music!
James macavoy could totally play brett in a movie! Not that a fuel movie would ever happen lol
finally, someone else seems to have noticed.
What you’re noticing is they both very similar k-9 to incisor relationship. (Upper teeth, maxilla).
