They are only useless if they aren't finished. Jeddah Tower has restarted. Riyadh's Rise tower will be even taller. The Line is still moving forward but only with the first 2 sections complete by 2030... California HSR though is still a dumpster fire. I don't think abandoning the project is a good idea at this point however modifying some sections to run mixed-speed service interlined with local regional rail like is the case for San Francisco could help make the case that the infrastructure spending is still worth it... A more simplistic Brightline-style design down the I-5 at 125 mph/200 kmg was probably the better course of action but local politicians wanting it in their downtowns got in the way. That was one of the worst design decisions possible if only from the enormous cost of doing everything in viaducts, embankments and tunnels really ratcheted up the cost...
