Teacher here! Even though we have a million coffee mugs, we secretly love them and are proud of our mug collection.
That’s what my sons teachers said. One even kept thanking me because she said due to the grades she teaches she doesn’t get teacher gifts. I was shocked and she said she is envious of the elementary school teachers cuz they get all the appreciation gifts and I told her they would be getting end of year ones as well she got all excited. Middle school teachers and HS teachers need love to.
@@meaganodell4479 that’s so true I teach middle and high, and I only get a couple of gifts each year (which is totally fine). We don’t expect parents to buy gifts for 8 teachers. It’s also totally fine to just get 1 or 2 gifts for your kids’ favorite teachers. Whatever our students choose is always appreciated, and when we do get a gift it is extra special.
I know a teacher who displays his mugs on shelves in his classroom. The most cherished ones are either personalized or handcrafted in art class.
Not so for me. I tried liking them, but I just can't seem to find them cute, especially since I'm a minimalist who does not drink coffee or tea. I kindly asked students and staff not to get me them, I'd prefer just a simple 'thank you' instead, but they still ignored my request.
My son's in first grade what do you recommend I get his teacher for a thank you basket they get out of school June 12th
My aunt was a teacher and after she passed away we found a letter from one of her students that she saved about what a difference she made. It was so heartwarming and inspiring that I printed it and framed it to remind me of what kind of person she was and the kind of person I want to strive to be. My point is that this was gift that meant a lot to her and was even a gift for her daughter and I after she passed away.
Me: *looks over at all the coffee mugs I just bought for my kids teachers*
Don’t worry I just bought a mug too
Sarah Wilkens look was going to but mabey not
Lol
😂 😂 😂
My daughter started school today and she gave her a Starbucks mug and 10 dollar gift card lmao 😬
If my child brought wine to school as a gift I'd end up getting a visit from the school police officer im afraid. Lol!
Lol! I bought my kids teachers mini bottles of wine (to go with card, bath bomb, candle, Turkish delights).
ETA I didn't send it to school with the kids, I brought it with me when I collected them from school 😆.
I’m a teacher and totally agree! Heartfelt messages of gratitude always make me cry 💕
Joey and Pascal I like to give home made food to my son’s teacher and I thought they love that 😮😕
I will be doing this!
Susie's Tips I’m sure they love your food they love plenty of things and your food is probably delicious 😋😁 💯% true swear
I my note to my
Grade 3 teacher made her cry. She gave me the worlds longest hug.
That was my best present
I'm a teacher and I'd love anything. A note/card or chocolate is perfect!
*Me:Shoot..*
**Hides best teacher mug**
MEEEE
Teacher of 27 years here: I disagree with ALL of the “dislike” items. I love and have received all of them.
My sons High School and Junior High Schools were so appreciative of the gifts they just got they get excluded because of their grade levels.
lol I panicked cause I gave multiple teachers some perfumes during the christmas party (currently planning for our year end hehe)
I'm a middle school teacher and save all of my notes from my kiddos, love them and read them when I'm feeling down
Awww
🥰 ❤️ 😊
So sweet

I always feel embarrassed at getting gifts from my class. Especially as there are usually a few children who’s parents don’t bother or can’t afford to give to us and those children always look really embarrassed. And they shouldn’t! Christmas is a time to be kind, not to give presents for the sake of receiving them.
I make a point of not opening in front of children due to these children but always write a thank-you note.
I totally agree with the first few points! A heartfelt letter is amazing, and a class collection to a voucher is way better than 20 sets of miniature shower gel.
To be clear: we never expect presents. However it seems that it is expected of us to get the children presents now. Trying to find gifts for 30 children under £1 each is so difficult and sometimes the recipients aren’t that grateful.
I’m on MAT leave at the moment, but next year I’m going to install a kindness advent and encourage this rather than gift giving.
Love your blogs, Emily! They have really helped me navigate life with a newborn! X
Jodie Wilkins I loved your comment. It’s so thoughtful. I can imagine how hard it’s when kids feel embarrassed for that. ❤️
Jodie, i completely see where you are coming from. When you mentioned teachers giving gifts to the children, myself as a mother of 3 never would expect a teacher to give my children a gift. This has happened in the past and I honestly think that it should not be expected, i am ashamed by some who think it should. A gesture, perhaps (holiday hugs, mean so much more to a child)...a gift? Totally unnecessary.
hey,, just quickly I was wondering this,, my science teacher is my fave teacher and I've had her for two years ,,I love her to bits. She just told our class she's pregnant and I know nobody else would bother but I wanted to get her something,, do you think personally you would appreciate a small blanket for the baby ?? X only asking since you said you were on mat leave 😂❤️
Getting children presents I never heard nor expect that of a teacher. Wow 😯
I love that you actually did a real research! Thank you for taking it so seriously and putting a lot of time into it.
I tell my students to do an act of kindness with their families instead of getting a gift for me. This can be such a blessing to the child ( quality time with parent) and to the recipient.
Love this video. I’m a teacher and the best present I received was some plants seeds in an envelope with a lovely poem about how the teacher is like a gardener carefully nurturing the flowers in the garden. So I agree messages are the best and if they want to buy something then a voucher is lovely x
Wow I really like this ! My sewing class teacher loves plants and I have a bunch of seeds . I will gift her this. Thank you
I'm a teacher and my favourite presents have always been cards with heartfelt messages inside. I keep them all!
I was planning to buy my teacher a dior perfume & Dior lipsticks. Guess I’ll just buy a random box of chocolates
As a teacher, I agree with this 100%. I wish all my students and their families watched this. 😂
As a teacher, what is the BEST and the WORST gift you have personally received?
😂😂😂 xx
Jessica Coutts What - you think it acceptable to list which gifts you would like. You are well paid, with amazing holiday entitlement and yet you still think you deserve a reward for just doing your job?
@@stevieb55 any teacher I know has 38 weeks of pay split over 52, some only get paid the weeks they are in school so they have to take on extra work in the school holidays and are you telling me you never get any bonus/token of appreciation at work
@@stevieb55 "Well paid" made me literally laugh out loud. Teachers are practically raising our children, they spend almost as much time with them as with their parents. It's a HARD job. Not to mention, tons of jobs get 'extras' just for doing their job. Literally what do you think bonuses are????? It's not a requirement, it's something *nice* to do for someone that greatly impacts the life of those you care about. Calm down.
Definitely true! Don't get anything that has your child's face on it please, we cannot use it coz it's weird 😅
You just made my night!!!! I have a coffee ☕️ mug with my son’s face in it and not even I use it! People ask too many questions! 😂😂😂😬😬😬
😂. I do buy personalised key-rings with the teachers name on it .
Made me laugh out loud so funny
Bahahaha this is so funny 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
As a teacher I love receiving plants and flowers. Candles are always welcome!! 😀 But of course a thank you is always the best gift. Great video! xx
As a teacher I agree with all of these, I’ve kept all of my handmade cards from the children and also ones with lovely messages! I actually didn’t think of a coffee voucher- that would be a great gift so many teachers turn up at school having bought a coffee so this would make January so much easier! X
At last....a video for us who are teachers!!!!Thanks Emily!!!!
💁📚❤️
Who else loves her voice
Meee! And her accent is just amazing
Could not take my eyes of You. You look stunning in black and the golden buttons! Wow.
I am a teacher too and I did not like reciving homemade food either.😊
Are homemade cookies therefore really considered as a big no-no?
@@andrejak.8650 It depends... I had two male colleagues who loved to recive all kinds of homemade food 😋 I guess that if you wrap it all nicely (and biscuits are perfect for that) it will make a great gift 😉
Teachers in the UK sometimes have to buy stationary and supplies for lessons, depends on what school you work in really. The gift ideas in this video sound spot on. When I got married all the parents in my class clubbed together and I got £100 voucher for John Lewis. Amazingly generous! Thanks to all the parents who are making such a effort for their children’s teachers, we really appreciate it x
So glad I watched this first. I literally crossed off 3 things I put on my list for my daughter's teachers. 🤦🏾♀️
As a teacher I would love to receive a nicely chosen christmas tree decoration, with their name and the year written on the back!!!
As a teacher, I feel you can never go wrong with some chocolate/wine/gift cards!
Can i just say I would LOVE a mum like Emily. Everyone needs an emily in there life !xxx
Love it! With Christmas 🎄 around the corner I keep thinking what to give to son’s teacher, speech therapists and audiologists they all work together and have helped him come such a long way!! This are good ideas for the 👎 what not to give them 😊
I'm a preschool teacher and one of the best gifts we have ever received (which we still all bring up every end of term/Christmas) was a 'lunch time hamper'. The parent gave us a big Aldi 'bag for life' crammed with crisps, biscuits, coffee, teabags, cereal bars, cup-a-soups... ect... with the thought behind it being that it took care of our lunches for a couple of days! Which it did :)
Here I am. 3 years after you’ve made this video. 😊
Super helpful tips. I think gas gift cards would be appreciated too
Gas gift cards, wow perfect idea thank you. Agree with you.
This was such a welcomed video. I have been agonizing over what to get sons first ever teacher who is a superstar. This is great!! Thanks Emily and all the honest hardworking teachers out there 😊
It’s so true, a message of genuine thanks is so awesome. I keep them all ❤
I usually enjoy homemade stuff! I had a student make me a jar full of THE best holiday hot cocoa mix ever! Homemade from the heart a traditional family recipe is nearly always wonderful!
My mom was a teacher for 30 years. She has well over two dozen Christmas mugs and another two dozen “best teacher” Christmas ornaments. And honestly most of them don’t get used. When she started teaching she got more gifts but the last years she taught her school system put a cap on teacher gifts to a value of $5 per child. But even a homemade and a $5 Starbucks gift card lets a teacher know you care and lets them have a little treat. And as for American teachers needing school supplies: my mom got $60 a year to supply her classroom. While kids brought supplies from home some kids didn’t have many resources. And by Christmas all the glue sticks are dried up and all the crayons are broken. If you want to donate supplies to the classroom ask what the teacher needs. It may be a new electric pencil sharpener or packs of pencils or packs of lined paper. But there will be something.
I have only gotten the do not like stuff. Omg.. thanks for this!
Omg Emily, it's like you've read my mind. This video is so timely and so useful. I was planning to bake something for my son's teachers. So glad for your video because I'd much rather get something that they will enjoy.
Mugs & homemade food...all things I have done repeatedly...LOL!
In my experience it's only been an exchange between teachers! I don't really expect to get a present from a child at all - The thing I love the most is a card or even a little note of appreciation - that sentiment is why I keep teaching 💕
Teachers love scented candles and chocolate and also cards
Hi! Thank you for preparing this! I am a teacher in the U.S. and what you said was so on point! Your research worked! I am always appreciative of anything, but, I guess because I am in the American group, I don’t like receiving alcoholic beverages because I don’t drink, but it sometimes makes a good gift. Everything you said was true!
When i was a teacher i looooved having little messages from the kids. I still keep them years on in my.memory box
Brilliant idea! Love it!
I am a teacher and i totally agree 😊
Most hated gift by me is definitely flowers.
Gratitude is always the gift that warms my heart.
Keep up the good work, i love watching vlogmas on your channel! 🤗😘
Hi, thanks,
I'm a student in the UK and this year, I'm in yr 11 so I would love to give my teacher thank you gifts for all of their support and patience so this video helped me.
I was wondering what would y said about giving a teacher a personalised trophy or personalised necklace if they always wear necklace?
Thanks
This is ace!!! I’m going to video and interview with my girls all about what they like at school and their teacher and send them that. They’re too little to write but they can articulate how they feel 🥰
Just in time! Im searching for some inspiration and your video just came UP 💖
Thank you for doing the research and taking the time to make this video! I'm a teacher and I absolutely agree with all of it!👍😀❤
Emily you are a life saver. You don't know how many times you saved me. I am not only a first time mom but also new to UK. Your videos are so much helpful and full of informations. A big hug from me. Love from Scotland 💓
I live in the UAE
We love love the British curriculum so lots of schools have native UK teachers and you know people here are wealthy (not all though) only the locals. For my daughter's teacher we collected around 1000$ as a gift voucher
I have been a teacher for 5 years and my absolutely favorite is a note from parents a picture the child makes and a gift card. Those are the ones I really love!
I’m loving these types of videos!!!!
Best video ever! 😅😀 🤣 love you Emily! ❤️ You saved me from a disaster! 😎
Thank you for sharing this!!
As a swimming teacher from uk I agree 100%. Well done Emily, spread the message and merry Xmas to all the heroes out there xxx
Great tips. Simple & effective, just what we like!
I'm also a teacher, and I agree with the stationery we also have to supply our own stationery so that is a great idea! And a heart felt letter of appreciation is always the best
Oh bugger! Ive done a mug, with Christmas socks in and a chocolate in! 🙊😂 the thought was there x
Holly b yep I did that last year!
I’m a teacher and I appreciate absolutely anything that the children give to me as a gift, as it shows I’ve been thought of and that I’m appreciated. Your gift sounds lovely x
I’ve just made the same thing for my sons teachers too 😂😂
But as a preschool teacher this is something I have loved being given in the past! x
Me too!!
You really helped me out with this video! Thank you for all the research!
Emily I love your videos so much 💓 💖 💗 Please do a day in the life!
This is so helpful! x
Thank you! I so needed help with this subject 👍🏼I need to get my sons teacher something
This is fabulous and very helpful! Thank you Emily. I have a first grader (United States) who is my only child so this is only my second year to buy for a teacher and I am at a loss. This helps so much! xoxo
I love giving my kids teachers gifts just a thank you for the year especially if the teacher was amazing and went above and beyond. I din't spend much and keep it thoughtful and simple.
This is such a great video thank you so much it’s always a stress to think about and I know they don’t expect anything but it is such a hard job and someone is taking care of our child so I think it’s a must xx
Very helpful! Thank you ❤
I’m not a teacher but I’m on the same page about gifts with them!
have been waiting for this video forever.. thank you
Soon I’m not gonna be in year 9 anymore, meaning that I won’t get to see my favourite teacher, she means more than “just a teacher” to me. She’s an inspiration, she has gotten me through so much, I don’t know what I’d do today if it wasn’t for you. I will still get to see her but not as much as I do now.
Miss Phillips, if you see this. You truly don’t understand the impact you have made on me and you make me feel like I can do everything I want, history was boring until I met you, you mean everything to me.
~ Maisy
Thank you!!
Wow Emily, you really did your homework. I am a teacher myself and agree 100% with your recommended gift ideas. Especially appreciate the cards and an honest "Dankeschön". Am German...
I love you and your amazing family please continue with CZcams 💙💙💙
I was a pre school/ creche manager for 14 years and I can't agree with u enough! I've two letters I've kept all these years later. One from a child with a drawing, and another from parent who really said how much she appreciated me and was really heart felt. I give a gift vouchers at the end of the year just €20 so they can decide if they want choc, wine r Pjs! Xmas I get a Xmas tree decoration( usually from a charity) as I loved to receive them and a handwritten card from my kids. Last year one of my girls teachers loved roald dahl so I got him the treasury book with a little note inside- my girl said he loved it and read parts to his class n kept in the classroom and hopefully he n many kids can enjoy . When my kids where in creche I used to buy a popular nursery book as I loved reading stories as a teacher and always was buying some for my class so I knew I'd appreciate that. Simple n thoughtful is always the way . And I always appreciate a card with a little message much more than any gift I've recieved x brilliant video never seen anything like this b4 n lovely u got info from teachers 😊
Teacher here too! Absolutely yes to vouchers. In the whole time I have been teaching I have never received a voucher.I always get so much chocolate that it saves me from having to buy any over Christmas so that is a plus.
I always give my kids teachers a thank you note with a gift card to either Amazon or Starbucks. Glad I’ve been doing the right thing. 😁
Bless you Emily! I was just stressing about what to buy my daughters nursery teacher (this is the first time I am buying a gift for a teacher)
And I thought ‘has Emily done a video on this previously?’ And then the title popped up on my screen! 😀👍
thank you very much your video is very helpful!
So so so helpful!!
Tysvm for this it helped me so very much I wanna try this to my strict teacher so that she can hopefully change and know that she's still appreciated and is still a super duper very great teacher💜💚☺💚💜
This is incredibly helpful!
So glad I watched this!! So helpful thank you. 😀👍
I was just thinking about purchasing their gifts and dreading looking and guessing! Thanks for the vid! Also guilty of the no nos.😩
Thank you so much I’m planning to surprise my son teacher on Mother’s Day can’t wait to surprise her , she such an amazing teacher !
Where is your lovely polo neck from? Such good advice, thanks!
Brilliant video! This is so helpful x
This is extremely helpful, thank you! :)
Thank you so much x
I always make a hamper with bath products, diary, stationary, chocolate, ornament and candle or mug. Also a thank you card.
I'm a teacher love cards or pictures from pupils. Also love stationary gifts, chocolate/biscuits and candles.
This was extremely helpful, with many sources. I'm looking to get a gift for my teacher who is retiring next week. I was actually going to buy her a mug, but was doing research on CZcams today and everything said that teachers didn't want mugs, so now I know! Thanks for helping me out!
Love this I’ve never really though of vouchers but that’s a great idea x
Found this really interesting thank you xx
Thankyou for sharing Emily, such an interesting video. 🎄
❤❤❤ we apreciate the effort and the research, it is good to know. Keep up with the videos!😊
This was so helpful thank you
Can you do a what I got my kids for Christmas?? Please. Love your videos
Such a good video!! Now I know what to get!! ❤️
I’m graduating this year, and it came up recently with my English teacher that I like to collect animal bones (because they’re cool and it’s a family tradition) and she was super weirded out by it but also was laughing at it. So of course I made her a fox-tooth necklace.
yh a little weird.....
and white people call us barbarians
daemosthenese
bro you weird..
It’s not weird unless it’s human bones other than tht everyone has different things they like
I feel I've done pretty well this year now. 1 child have done a class collection for spa vouchers and the other I've made little parcels of candles, chocolates & scratch cards :) x
It is so amazing how you are allowing the teachers to have a voice. I think that teachers are extremely underappreciated. I know they don't do it for the reward but it would be nice for us to show them we care, even if the government doesn't.
REAL TAKE from THE PURPLE UNICORN MISS D.P.C.A. DEUCES ✌
As a secondary school teacher in the UK, I spend a fortune each year on glue sticks, highlighters and packs of paper. Technically, we get a school budget for supplies but in reality this doesn’t stretch past the end of October.
My favourite gifts to receive are thoughtful messages from the children I’ve taught and prosecco 😉🥂 xx
not sure if you'll reply but my teacher has saved my life and helped me so much and because i'm in year 11 and had her last year I wrote her a message last year and I did the same this year but I think it's not enough because I already did that but i don't know much about her because she listens to my problems more so do you think something personalised like a painting or something might be good? she gave me this really inspiring metaphor and I thought I could create a painting out of it but I don't know if she'll like it because she's a French teacher not an art.
@@isabellaaslam9372 Aww how lovely! I don’t think it matters that she’s not an art teacher- that sounds like a thoughtful, wonderful gift! I’m an English teacher and if one of my students gave me such a thoughtful gift, I’d be over the moon! (And probably quite emotional!! 😂) I’m absolutely certain that she would treasure that gift! 💗
@@aamymx thank you so much! I've been struggling to come up with something because I wanted it to be memorable and not something that everyone does (like how most people give chocolates ect) and it's definitely easier hearing from a teacher's perspective what sounds memorable because it's really hard to truly express how much she has done for me and how much she's saved my life. Anyway thank you again :)
Im not a teacher or have kids but found this so interesting!
I teach at Uni so I dont often get gift but one of the best was when I received a pack of nice tea.
I desagree with with the dislike of flowers, I do love them...a nice bouquet of flowers 🌷🌻🌼, not the ones in the pot though.
