  • With a name like Envision, Buick's compact SUV might make you think of bold forward thinking design or advanced technology. Designed in China, KBB's Lyn Woodward takes a look at this American car company's offering that lands between their larger Enclave and the sub-compact Encore. Does the Envision live up to its name?

    bought one for a lot less than this cost. My top of the line 2018 was under $40,000 all costs included. So buy at the end of the model year, and save $10,000 to $12,000 on a decent car. Now have 15,000 miles averaging 24.5 mpg, so not bad mileage.

    I don't understand why buick gets so much hate in the States. They're doing a great job with their latest products. Sure they may not be the best but their products are on par if not better than something Lincoln or Infiniti has produced. My mother loves her envision which she recently just purchased about month ago. Car companies like Buick , Kia , or Ford deserve way more respect than what they get.

    After checking out several videos on it and the official website, this seems to me to basically be a sporty yet tall wagon with some intended "luxury" trim that almost seems a bit awkward when compared with the exterior design which doesn't impart quite the same feeling.
    Overall it seems to give the impression that GM wanted to sell that particular vehicle in the U.S. but wasn't sure where to slot it and didn't want to pull sales away from existing lower end models so they just slapped some "luxury" trim in a tall wagon and decided they would market it as a Buick since that's supposed to be their quasi-luxury brand.
    To be honest though, I do think it hits a sweet spot size wise, since as Lyn noted, the encore is definitely a squeezed vehicle, and the Enclave is just too big for many peoples needs such as my own.
    Even so.... because of the mismatched exterior/interior theme of the car, and the rather piece meal, generic approach they took with it, I do think it's going to be a hard sell.
    I will agree with everyone else here though... in no way, shape, or form is that a $48,000 car!!! Great way to kill a newly launched model GM lol.
    Yes I know... GM offers a lot of rebates and incentives, so it will sell for substantially less than $48,000.... so lets factor that in and take $10k off the price for rebates and incentives which would bring the price down to around $38,000...... NOPE... sorry but it's not even a $38,000 car LOL!
    I think this would have been better in the Chevy line-up, slotted in between the Trax and the Equinox, something that looks more car-like, but with AWD option, to compete against the likes of a Subaru Impreza.
    Pricing should start out at around $22,000 for a fwd base model that includes a lot of features for the entry level price, and then top out at around $34,000 for a top of the line fully loaded AWD version.
    People might actually take it seriously with that price range and configuration and it would definitely get a lot more exposure as a Chevy model than as a Buick.
    But $48K for a Chinese built Buick? Buick is efinitely gonna have to fool some little old lady in to falling for that!

    • @normt5463
      @normt5463 Před 5 lety

      The Envision came out in 2016 before the 2018 Equinox and Terrain redesign. In it's first full year of sales it sold 41,000 units.
      The discounting is very good on the Premium 2.0T with about $11,000-13,000 off MSRP. At $33K for a torque vectoring AWD and almost 300 lb-fr of torque not much can match it in the near-luxury and luxury segments.

      Oskar Ngo agree that it’s ridiculously easy to tap the stalk for a wipe, but I doubt there is anything additional to go wrong since it’s all built into the ECU as a program and sensors are pretty stout non-mechanical pieces.

      @normt5463 Před 6 lety +3

      Miguel Ircontar The Envision 2.0T with torque vectoring AWD and has this in spades for low $30's with Buick discounting. Many more features too than RDX.

    • @normt5463
      @normt5463 Před 6 lety +2

      john smith The Envision 2.0T with torque vectoring AWD has real leather for $10,000 less than NX. At discounted price of $32-33K it pretty much mops the floor with RDX as far as feature content. And we have seen testing at Car & Driver the RDX 2.0T is not any faster than the lower torque Envision from 60-100 mph.

    • @disco.lemonade
      @disco.lemonade Před 6 lety +6

      Norm, LOL. Geez... RDX is already wiping its ass with cars like NX300, which is also superior to your Buick. The RDX will DESTROY your precious Envision in sales. But, keep up the hard work, I guess. Good luck on those sales, Mr. Obvious Buick Employee.

    Ugh, quit being so brand biased. Every Buick review you do Lyn is filled with snarky jabs. You do know the Lexus has an analog clock right? So are Lexus vehicles only for a "mature" audience? Buicks are just more EXPENSIVE that's why they aren't bought by a younger crowd who can get same size vehicles for less. Buicks are more expensive than Toyotas, Hondas, Mazdas for most models.

    The new Buick Invicta... ummmm, Envicta?? It's a historic Buick nameplate. (Invicta, not Envicta... nevermind). I rented a Envision for a drive to Arizona high country from Phoenix, touring around Sedona, and the Envision was a great cruiser. Ultra comfy seats, plenty of room for 4 big adults, and a day trip worth of backpacks and a Coleman cooler easily fit in the cargo hold. Library quiet too. Ate up 500 miles in one day. Yeah, I know it's made in China, but the Chinese buyers love Buicks.....
