- It's been awhile since I've released a cover...Mainly due to me messing around with this amazing drum software (Superior Drummer 3) and putting together some cool sounding kits. It's inspired me to do some other styles of music and revive a few of my favorite Pop and Rock songs from my era. Hope you dig this one...Thank you to all of my subscribers for all of your support and comments throughout my channel. It makes what I love to do even better to share it with you all! Cheers! Brother, I must have missed that one. You are - still to this day - one of the few CZcams drummers to whom I listen to every single second from start to finish. Your mixes are incredible and you playing is so incredibly tight. One could have your performances playing in the background and no one would ever even notice it’s a drum cover, sounds so real! Hope you‘re doing well buddy!
Well That’s damn ironic since I was thinking about you the other day and happened to look you up to re watch our SD videos! It’s almost like you knew I was looking around in your back yard Mike! Kind of creepy haha but I have to admit it was you who convinced me to try this sample stuff and of course I’m addicted now! I currently own: Hansa, Decades, Custom and Vintage, D&D, Rock Warehouse, Fields, and Legacy! I spend more time playing around with all of the amazing presets and snares and never settle on recording anything because I can’t make up my mind lol!!
Seriously you were right all along but now I’m a lost puppy when it comes to figuring out how all this stuff works. The fact that YOU (of all people) state my mixes are good is mind blowing to me! You understand the process where I just roll the dice and hope I get something that doesn’t clip or turn out like a mass of distorted crap. Hehe, seriously my friend, I truly appreciate your help and flattery and if I’m honest, I could use some lessons so when you have some time again hit me back up on FaceTime and teach me a thing or ten🤣! Hay Jay! Happy New Years to you bro! I kind of fudged my way through a few of the drum parts on this song but hopefully retained the overall groove. I’m struggling a bit with getting the drum sounds polished in SD3 as I’m a shit engineer 😂 but at least there are presets for me to work from. I still haven’t figured out the quantize and instrument replacement features but it’s keeping my performance a bit more real haha! Hope you have an awesome New Year and I’m looking forward to the reveal of your channel! I’m sure it will be cool 😎. Cheers

Thanks my friend! Yeah I’ve been trying to keep things fresh, not an easy task as you know. Always playing around with camera angles, lighting, chroma key,etc. this song was a bit of an experiment with the software to see if a rock kit was still usable over an 80’s pop song. Worked out ok. Have a killer year brother. Looking forward to more new and exciting things from you as well. We should collaborate on something?

Very cool man! I love this song and Steve Winwood in general. I did this song and someone commented on how I played it wrong and that it should be double handed 16th notes. Watching your cover I can see how its a lot easier to play it this way than the way I played it. Great job, man....love it, makes me want to play this song now!
Hey man there’s no wrong way to play it and I definitely didn’t play it note for note but just tried to capture the groove of the song closely. There’s some tricky snare rolls and odd accents that I didn’t attempt so no worries...Just play it to have fun right?
Mike, this is so PRO, I couldn't begin to express how cool this vid is! I was a Steve Winwood fan specifically because of this song back in the 80's. The complexity of the composition and song structure was a unique challenge to build the playing skillset from, and you nailed it all - sounds, performance, groove, feel - all of it. Just AWESOME.

The song seems like a terror to learn. I really like the sounds of the TD30 with which must be superior drummer software. No latency issues there. But most of all great drumming. Your are an example to many but at least to me. Kind regards from the Netherlands.

It’s actually even more intricate if you listen closely. I jammed over the ending but the original drum track is very detailed and difficult to match. You would do a great cover I’m sure! Thanks man

Dude, if this is what you meant by stepping out - you step out PROPER! My God bro, that sound is stupid / insane / over the top incredible! But the chops, the feel - it's pro as hell Mike. I mean you took this one down to the tiniest details. I have no clue if that's what the hats are doing in the original but you're on fire on this man
Haha thanks bro! The hats are pretty cool on the original groove but I put my own spin on it while trying to keep the fundamentals of the original track intact. I had so much fun recording it I decided to double up the ending as an experiment. Other than the drums phasing each other out I thought it worked pretty well. Hey Bryan! Funny thing is I had recorded that song twice and couldn’t decide which one I liked the best so I played them side by side and stumbled on an idea to double myself on the end of the song. The drum sounds were phasing each other out at times but what the heck why not right? Thanks for the support as always my friend!

Alex! Great to hear from you my man! Yes I’ve heard “Roll with it” and will certainly put that on my list (it’s quite long at this point 😆). I’m trying to branch out a bit from my norm. Trying to tackle some of my “hero’s” of the drum community, some less well known than others but talented and not always easy to play.
