    Hi,
    Thanks for the video. Just subscribed to your channel.
    May I just ask, when doing translation do we always start with the start codon ( AUG ) when given with a sequence of mRNA? For example, if I have a sequence AUAUGGGCG, do I divide this into codon as AUA UGG GCG or should I start with my translation as AUG GGC and end with the stop codon?
    Thanks!

    • @nicolelantz
      @nicolelantz  Před 2 lety +1

      Scan first for the start codon, then make that your first codon. Divide the sequence into triplets of bases after the start codon. So in the case of your problem, skip the first AU, and start with AUG GGC.

    • @michaelgalario6655
      @michaelgalario6655 Před 2 lety

      @@nicolelantz thank you. Does this apply always or are there any exceptions? 😇🙏

    • @nicolelantz
      @nicolelantz  Před 2 lety

      That is how it happens in the cell.
      If you are working on something given to you by a teacher, they may expect you to just start at the first 3 bases. Be sure to ask when completing an assignment!

    2 questions:
    1) what if there are 2 start codons? Which codon do we start from?
    2) what is a start codon is all the way near the right hand side? Do we move left instead of right in that case?
