These BTS vids are so great. it seems like a lot of times creators try to look flawless. It's great to see your step by step in having to figure out every issue that arrises

The actor you chose was absolutely on point - he sold those scenes through his minor dialogue inflections, subtle acting and just looking a f’in boss.
Also, as he was a fan of yours, he totally gets your tone and what your after. If the others had done a little homework they might have gotten closer.

That audition tape seems to be him channeling OTIS which makes me think he did his research, and intuited that you needed and OTIS replacement. That alone is reason for him to get the job-- he actually cared enough to do that.
I know it seems cringy to self direct, but it saves SO much time communicating your thoughts. It's really difficult getting a principle actor or camera operator on the same page with your vision. Acting for yourself cuts the fat.
I do love all your master films. But the BTS episodes are the cherry on the cake ! So inspiring and so much to learn. Thanks !

Honestly you are really lucky that the stock Hydra was smooth enough for you. We have been doing a lot of mods over on the Facebook groups to make it viable for more conventional gimbal rigs as the isolators aren’t flexible enough.

Dude, I love this stuff and your channel! But'a, I just wanna say, I'm totally guessing your age at about half of mine, and I've been rockin that same denim shirt for damn near 30 years bud. It still looks great on everybody that wears it to this day! I have both the long and short sleeve versions and both male and female look great in these shirts. Ya can't ever go wrong with a classic.

These are great. One of my bucket-list items if I were dying of cancer would be to beg Kevin Smith, Ridley Scott or Ron Howard to grant me the wish of seeing a movie being made. Thoroughly enjoy seeing the process. FWIW, make the art the way you want: Direct, write, act, etc. Orson Welles did it. You're in good company. He was lucky though, "Citizen Kane" was black and white.

Bwahahaha this is what happens when a perfectionist has trouble letting go! I know this well, although in a whole other world, of course. You've got to learn to rely on others, buddy, especially if you ever want to do big time things. You'll go crazy trying to be director, writer, actor, cameraman.... once you develop that core group of people you can rely on and trust to see and execute on your vision, you will be golden. I think the skill you need to learn is how to get others to see what you see so they can then deliver for you instead of just jumping into the role of doing it yourself "eg, give me the monitor." I know your feed is filled with unsolicited advice, so sorry to pile on. You are a rockstar and I love watching you take this journey!

LOL so true! Keep in mind, not a single person on set was a professional int he working field, except for the Producer and the DP. This was a "jump into the deep end" learning lesson for everyone including myself and the team so far are young aspiring filmmakers. For the majority, this was their first time on set. But yes, assemble the crew is the message, and is what's next! XO

I feel like the 4D is a true paradigm shift in cinematography. It needs some more refinement IMHO (better lens support being the only thing that stops me from getting it), but I'm sure V2.0 or 3.0 will be insane.
they need to make it work on Tripod too and also work with heavy lenses. but i am sure next version will be able to do that.

Hey bud, appreciate you putting this together! I'm continually learning color and lighting and am moderate at best but I was happy to see Resolve in your work flow. Hope you find "the one" who can work their magic for you, Resolve is so powerful I'm probably only using 10% of the capability... but last video was 9%, so I'm good. Love the vids, keep up the good work!

Great BTS video. Did you prepare a shotlist for this commercial or did you come up with the coverage on shoot day?
Good question. We did storyboards actually. But we had to change a few things on the fly because the lighting setup changed and was not what it was when we did a walk thru.

Im not a pro but the Ronin 4D always looks like a lot of fun to use.
What kind of permits did you have to get?
something i noticed is the cut to silence between the lines in audio. The echo/reverb in the voice and then a hard stop to silence
Where can i find the final video?
Presuming these are not straight out of the camera? The files you provided seemed incorrectly transformed? Did you happen to shoot a color checker also?
The one I'm having the most problems with is the wide shot. In the folder structure it's in the Original folder. It's HLG rec2020, and would require proper transform. The other ones are prores rec 709.
Did not shoot a color checker. Second major mistake. Contemplated going back for that, but without exact camera specs, and conditions--- probably would have been a bit off.
Damn, I wish I was a colourist right now.
Chicken and egg. I liked this video more than the one it's based on, but you can't have a how too video without the original. Don't get me wrong I loved the first but worship this one. Ps "raw slick" is working for you so retain the imperfections. Cheers Alan
