      @styleisaweapon Před měsícem +3

      @@mastroitek how do the e-cores make any sense in the current market? AMD has laptop cpus in desktop packages kicking the snot out of the current intel desktop gen.. there is no e-cores desktop market because amd will sell you a 100% low power package that also outperforms the power hungry p-cores.

    • @mastroitek
      @mastroitek Před měsícem +4

      @@styleisaweapon No wait, I mean that since Intel made clear that E cores are here to stay (or at least in the current and near future gens), I wonder what a full P core CPU brings to the table for them, how they justify it. In my view needs to have a different set of features, because if it doesn't it would be a weird situation, if it competes with 13th and 14th gen it would basically mean that E-cores are useless (and I assume Intel does not want to sent that message), while if it is bad then it is a useless gen and makes Intel look bad. Thus I believe that there is more to this than only a full P-core design, and being a tech enthusiast I'm curious to see what it is.

      The first Rumours about bartlet go back to end of December 2023. Some assumed it was a low cost cpu but what come out back then was that it was aimed at market segments where strong multicore performance was not a main requirement (like for example ... gaming). Then there was another "mini leak" when they extended APO to the 13th gen.(the leak was that the new cpu would not need apo due to only having p-cores) So "the new news" are not really that new, but were superseded by the KS launch and the new architecture until now.

    Intel along with extended motherboard support should use this opportunity to offer some type of RMA return and replacement with a similar skew of this new chip along with an explanation and apology to the people who are dissatisfied with their 13th or 14th gen cpu's that have the stability issue. So many people are covering the topic in a negative light that hurts Intel as far as reputation. its a deterioration over time rather than a simple instability, which limits what kind of problem it could be, and its unlikely to be a deterioration of the thermal paste or similar because both bulk system integrators and custom builders are seeing the same issues. Its a problem under the lid, or perhaps with the lid itself. Maybe the lid is deforming over time and losing just enough contact with the IC's underneath to not spread heat very well... but probably not.. one of the ic's is probably slowly burning away with too much load running through its conductors and will continue to do so until the cpu doesnt boot any more, in the meantime enjoy instability under load

They need something better for the thermal interface at the very least because the expansion at those temperatures is extreme. Between idle/off 20-40°C and 100°C swings any standard TIM gets pumped out the side in a matter of weeks or months. Liquid metal, gel phase change or carbon nano sheets must be employed and Intel needs to explain that and put it in the data sheets.
    I know friends (who didn't listen to me) with Alienware gaming laptops and they run at 100C. I tried lowering the power, the 10th gen i7/i9 (or whatever) chip can't even stay under 100c at 35 watts. At that TDP it can barely hold 3.2Ghz. Imagine paying for an i9 and the i5 will completely outperform it on every metric after 2 mins of run-time. That is basically the situation for all but the most extreme desktop replacement models (cough Clevo cough MSI). You can push "thin and light" all you want, but unless you are usint exotic cooling it's still massively limited. They have to give the money to Intel for the "i7" Ultra 7 branding instead of spending the money on cooling which would result in measurably better performance. 🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @drewnewby
      @drewnewby Před měsícem +1

      @milescarter7803 Maybe not a secret, the exotic solutions do not work either. Liquid metal definitely gets pumped out, vapor chambers fail due to fatigue from temp swings being so extreme. The sheets are underwhelming at best. They're setting TjMax as high as they can get away with without too many failures within the warranty period. No one on desktop or laptop should be anywhere near those temps at the current nodes. Forget buying these chips second hand later, just as they planned.

    Finally more than 8 P cores on a single ring bus/CCX-CCD/die. But Q3 2025? Yikes. 1 year wait at least. Please Intel bring 12 P core chip for Arrow Lake. Q3 2025 for Golden or Raptor Cove IPC and platform for what will be near 3 years old if not 3 years old by then too little too late unless IPC stagnates through Arrow Lake and Zen 6 with mild at best increases with nothing big jump until lkate 2027 at least. And oh boy they better fix the stability problems and if they do and confirmed, I am a buyer of it.
    Zen 6 still going to be dual 8 core CCD and cross latency penalty. Yes it will be better with the new interconnects, but still on a separate CCD none the less and some latency hit unlike same ring bus 10 P core homogeneous Comet Lake and hypothetical but rumored and likely to be real 12 P core Alder Lake/Raptor Lake or maybe even Lions Cove based Bartlett Lake??

    • @lycanthoss
      @lycanthoss Před měsícem

      What sort of workload do you have that cares about more than 8 P cores? The only valid example against E cores I've heard was VM software not supporting E cores normally. Games don't care for more than 8 P cores. In fact, 6 cores is more than enough for most games. And for any true MT workload, E cores are good.

      Will we see AVX-512 or AVX-10.2 with 512-bit wide vector units on the Bartlett Lake cores? That would be a great feature to have, closing the embarassing gap in the current generation on Intel's consumer chips.

    • @AleraKira

    • @Wolverine607
      @Wolverine607 Před měsícem

      Well big latency jump because it is different kind of core in weaker e-core with different arch and it has to go to a cluster of 4 e-cores. But change them to P cores only and core to core latency will be great like it was on 10 core Comet Lake. As long as they remain on same ring bus that is,

    • @Wolverine607
      @Wolverine607 Před měsícem

      @@lycanthoss Some games are slowly starting to marginally benefit from more than 8 cores. And you can have the best set and forget it all around CPU with modern IPC and no scheduling quirks for games that hate heterogenous arch which too many do.
      Certain games like TLOUD Part 1, Spiderman Remastered, Cyberpunk, Dragons Dogma 2 and Starfield see a little benefit in some parts of games more than 8 cores. And even those those games play nice with e-cores, having more P cores is better so for games that hate e-cores no disabling necessary and no cross CCD latency 1% lows hit on AMD and thus best of both worlds with more than 8 P cores on a single ring bus. I wanted this so badly for more than 2 years now and its finally coming it appears.
      Though will it be stable or will it inherit Raptor Lake stability problems and degradation or will the new die be good?

This was originally taken to courts under the guise of lost data and whether individuals were to be compensated if it was lost. Only the prospect of losing customers stop companies from too much abuse of legal theft
